Fernando Torres | 21 comments Please delete the following quote:

“I've begun to wonder...perhaps, it is not that God is cruel, but that we are indifferent?" - Sister Marie”
― Fernando A. Torres, A Habit of Resistance

It has a quotation mark after "Marie" and is a duplicate quote. Thanks!

message 308: by Caroline (last edited Feb 03, 2015 12:03AM) (new)

Caroline (cannaw) | 109 comments I wanted to list an Edward Gibbon quote...

“the vicissitudes of fortune, which spares neither man nor the proudest of his works . . . buries empires and cities in a common grave.”

The trouble is it keeps automatically being attributed to Philip Meyer instead, who used it in his book "The Son". It is however a quote by Gibbon (who wrote "The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire".

One of those is a Quote of the Day therefore uncombinable. I've edited the other one for correctness and added the tag " attributed no source" which ALSO applies to the QotD.

Aibohphobia (aibohpphobia) | 216 comments (Intro music: Funeral March for a Marionette")

Under Alfred Hitchcock quotes, there are two that should be merged and corrected:

https://www.goodreads.com/author/quot...

“Drama is life with the dull parts left out.”

“A great story is like life with the dull parts taken out.”

The actual quote is:
“What is drama but life with the dull bits cut out.”
(Per the official Alfred Hitchcock web site here: http://www.alfredhitchcock.com/brand/...)

I tried to fix it myself with some success - there were originally six variations on this quote!

Lobstergirl Pls merge

https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/9887...

into

https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/3516...--

First one has typo plus second one is better anyway.

Also this quote has nothing to do with socialism or communism...(tags on the second one). Really the only tags needed (if any) are F.D. and slavery.

Luis Gonzalez | 1 comments This quote by a "children's poetry" author has a typographical error, and is trite.
https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/1349...

I believe there is also a culture gap here. His quotes sound like a pre-teens ramblings with spatterings of bad punctuation and metaphors.

I've fixed a typo but the syntax is another matter. The quote might be ungrammatical and still be correct. Without access to the source we must assume the author added his own quote correctly.

The author has one book on Amazon which shows that he has a distinctive writing style but he does meet the notability requirements for having a quotation on Goodreads.

Having just read the series for the first time after seeing the TV show, yeah, it's not in any of the books. I was kind of looking forward to reading it and then it wasn't there!

Banjomike | 5166 comments Lena wrote: "Thank you. So there is no way to attach the Jefferson quote to the Fleming book?"

There is technically no way to attribute to a book written by another author. If there was a way it would, in my opinion, be wrong to do it in this case since the Fleming book is only reprinting the Jefferson quote and nothing more.
