Sonic Banana (sonic_banana) | 5 comments Someone's left a couple of "quotes" on Kathleen Hale's page (the author of "Orlando the Marmalade Cat") thinking she is the other author of the same name.

https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/1054...

https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/3182...

You'd think they could tell the difference since this author died in 2000.

Anyway, needs to be deleted. Thanks!

Well I said deleted because they're not real quotes. I don't care for the author's behavior but she didn't actually say those things.

Thanks for getting them off the other author's page!

"Everyone else is mean..." is from her book https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
"Dom looks disgusted. “It’s not like you to be mean.”
“Mean?” I throw my hands up. “Everyone else is mean, okay? Not me. I’m just some nice girl trying to be nice.”"

The other one I'm not sure about. It was added by a librarian so I've messaged them to ask for the source.

I didn't intend to edit the first one to the longer version. I was just proving that it really existed and was by that author. The second one we are well rid of, I think, but I'm still curious where it came from...

The bit quoted was misleading out of context. Context provided.

Kevin Cole (kevin_cole) Hi,

I'm an author who's committed the sin of quoting his own work. Now that I see the error of my ways, I seek redemption but need an angel's help. Would you kindly remove the second and third quote from this page, please?

Thank you,
Kevin

I asked the person who added another quote if she would tell me how she did it
https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/1349821

she said, "I have a kindle paper white and I highlighted it with my finger and then selected 'share.' I was doing this because 1Q84 has so many music references and I wanted to listen to them as I read, so I noted them and then made a playlist. If I just highlight, then they go to my kindle notes, but it is easier to find when I share (then I can just see the most recent on my goodreads page).

Makes sense to me. The Kindle has a highlight pen that automatically posts what you highlight on the Goodreads quote page. Obvious.

It might explain these
https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/1429...
https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/1300...

I think the spammers are also using it
https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/3188...

I'll flag this last one.

It looks like another one that might be attributed to the Kindle share option as per message #116-7 above and here (search on 'share a quote')
https://www.goodreads.com/blog/show/4...
it says "When you come across a quote that is meaningful or funny, you can now share it with Goodreads friends directly from within the book instead of forgetting about it later" except it doesn't share it with friend it adds it to the main database.

They seem to be doing exactly what they should do, so deleting is probably wrong. The idea is good, it is just that the results are visible everywhere rather than just to their 'Goodreads friends'.

Julia ♥Duncan♥ (apocalypticchick) | 12 comments Semi complicated request here (I think).

There's two authors named Alexis Hall. All of the quotes under Alexis^Hall actually belong under Alexis^^Hall but it won't let me move them because already exist under the correct author as well. So ideally they would be merged but I don't know how to do that without first moving them.

Nice one. Done. I used to have a kettle which sounded more like a herd of bison than the soughing of the pines. The Japanese must have better kettles than the rest of us.

Thank you.
I would have liked to hear the sound of that kettle of yours - might be a great market niche: You will never fail to hear the cooking of the water when the kettle sounds like a herd of bovines.
I still would like to know what a herd of pines would look like, though...

You added it with the author and book as one single field. I split it so it should be OK now.

Banjomike wrote: Nope, sorry. That is a [Ominous Music] Quote of the Day

Can you explain further? Is there some restriction with quotes that have been made "quote of the day?"

It would seem that if a quote is worthy of note, it should be tagged with plenty of keywords so that it comes up when people are looking for a quote on a particular topic.

Not complaining you understand just... "Inquiring minds want to know"

They cannot be touched by us plebs and even staff members make arcane warding gestures as they walk past them. There is a thread for requesting edits to them but to the best of my knowledge none have ever been acted upon apart from fixing a couple of duff punctuation errors.
