This is from the book Deathless (it wouldn't let me add more than the author). I also made a typo: Towards the end I wrote "ble" instead of "blue"... Sorry!

We can fix the quote if you tell us what it should be.

It has too many 'likes' to just be deleted so I've corrected the text (changed fight to struggle, etc. I hope that is better.

Ara | 20 comments I did check for duplicate quotes, and the likes appeared instantly after adding the quote, so it's hard to believe a librarian acted that quickly unless it was somehow pre-programmed that way for common quotes. Anyhow, no matter, it'll just stay a mystery.

Charlotte Eriksson (theglasschild) | 10 comments I find it hard that you can't delete a quote when these are not my words? These are someone else's words, mashed up with mine, and as a writer I don't think it's right to take credit for words that are not mine? Especially on a reputable site like Goodreads.
If you can't delete it the correct ending should be:
“It's been a beautiful adventure. It always will be.”

Just for the record the text I used was copied from the "Look Inside!" your book option on Amazon.

Lynette Noni (lynettenoni) | 3 comments Hello! I just uploaded a quote for my debut novel and I didn't realise I had to format spaces myself (rookie mistake!). Can I please trouble someone to add gaps between the sentences? So, currently the quote is this:

“I’ll go first, then you follow me, Alex, exactly where I step. Bear will come behind you,” Jordan said. “And remember, only one person on a square at a time.”
She hadn’t been told that before. “Why?”
Jordan grimaced and said, “They’re kind of… booby-trapped.”
“Booby-trapped,” she deadpanned.
He looked at her innocently and shrugged as if to say it wasn’t his fault.
“You know what?” Alex muttered. “I don’t even want to know how you know that.”

..... BUT can it please be changed to:

“I’ll go first, then you follow me, Alex, exactly where I step. Bear will come behind you,” Jordan said. “And remember, only one person on a square at a time.”

She hadn’t been told that before. “Why?”

Jordan grimaced and said, “They’re kind of… booby-trapped.”

.... Thank you so much! This should be the link you need: https://www.goodreads.com/author/quot...

Thanks so much, Guatón! Very much appreciated! Also, this may not be something you know the answer to, but how do I get the quote to show on the actual book page? (On the right hand side, usually near the quizzes/trivia area). Or does it have to go through some kind of moderation or something first? Totally okay if you don't know the answer!

No worries, Guatón! I'll give it a few days to see if it magically appears, and otherwise I'll look into contacting the Goodreads powers-that-be. Thanks so much for fixing the quote for me again! :)

“Violence is the language of the inarticulate.”

Aussiescribbler Aussiescribbler | 21 comments Could the typos in this quote be fixed ("g" on the end of "being" and "v" removed from "insane" :

“Sanity is actually a pretence, a way we learn to behave. We keep this pretence up because we dont want to be rejected by other people - and bein classified insanve is to be shut out of the group in a very complete way.
Most people i meet are secretly convinced that they're a little crazier than the average person. People understand the energy necessary to maintain their own shields, but not the energy expended by other people. They understand that their own sanity is a performance, but when confronted by other people they confuse the person with the role.
Sanity has nothing directly to do with the way you think. Its a matter of presenting yourself as safe.”

King never said, "Violence is the language of the inarticulate". He actually said, "A riot is the language of the unheard"

Damn, now I'm really confused. I saw it attributed to him at least as a paraphrase. I've found so many uses of the sentence, without attribution, on the internet that I'm sure it was around before I wrote it. It's probably best to delete it as a quote from me. Now I have to decide if I should go to the trouble of removing my attribution of it to Martin Luther King in my book.

message 225: by Banjomike (new)

Banjomike | 5166 comments Aussiescribbler wrote: "attributed to him at least as a paraphrase"

"Attributed to him at least as a paraphrase" STILL means he didn't say it.

Aussiescribbler wrote: "Now I have to decide if I should go to the trouble of removing my attribution of it to Martin Luther King in my book. "

Where did you find the attribution that you used?

message 226: by Aussiescribbler (new)

Aussiescribbler Aussiescribbler | 21 comments There is this reference which does seem to be attributing it as a direct quote from King :

https://books.google.com.au/books?id=...

On the other hand there is this video which uses it as a title when talking about Bernard Lafayette, but it doesn't make it clear as to whether it is a quote from Lafayette :

This is the Martin Luther King Digital Archive of one million King-related documents.
http://www.thekingcenter.org/archive

This is a result for the riots quote
http://www.thekingcenter.org/quotes/m...

If you search for 'inarticulate' you get zero results.
If you search for 'violence language' you get zero results.

The book you link to on Google was published in 2010 and seems to be referring to another author, not King directly.

message 237: by Robert (new)

Robert Negut (cavalary) | 74 comments Thought to add a quote today (first time) and, well, first expected it to add to the book I was on when I clicked. When that didn't happen, looked through the list and picked the English title, but that made it end up here instead of where it should have had. Then I tried to add it again picking the original book name, since the English one obviously made it go elsewhere, but it just redirected me to the existing addition apparently.
So what now? Did trying to add it twice mess something up? Can it be moved to where it should be? Shouldn't that edition be combined there? If it is combined, will it still show that it was added for the audio edition (really wouldn't want that, ugh)?

Sorry. Messing things up. And don't know if this was posted in the right place anyway.
