Laura (lauradragonchild) | 6554 comments This BINGO challenge is all about STANDALONES!!

Below is a list of 100+ standalones I own but somehow never got around to read. So I'm making it fun and turning clearing my shelves into a challenge to make sure I knock some of those titles off. But... to avoid boring I'll also add a little twist and ask you all to recommend me your all time favorite standalone for me to read this year.

What I'm asking you all to do?

1st - Please choose 2 books out of my 100+ list

2nd - Please tell me which is your all-time favorite standalone and I'll read it this year. If I cannot find the book you're recommending or I've already read it, I will ask you for a second option.

And yes! This is a 3 in 1 BINGO for me to finish in 2019! But buying 24 books in a year sure as hell beats buying 100+ the way I normally do so I'm gonna give this a try to avoid that buying.

Please drop by everyone and make a choice! :))

Edit! - BINGO all set up and ready to go! :D

Will come back soon to tell you my choices :)

message 7: by Karishma (new)

Karishma (karishmanewar) | 1619 comments The Martian because we are doing the buddy read.

And Sunshine because I really want to do a buddy read.

The Bride because Julie Garwood😍😍

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments I'm confused. Some of these books are not standalone books. Like Dragonsong. Are you counting them as standalones because you only have the one book?

I like the variety! =D

message 9: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) | 6554 comments Is your all time favourite The Bride?

I want to know which is you all-time favourite. And it doesn't have to be on my list. :)

Yes. I'm counting them as standalones because I'll probably not be able to read the entire Pern series and they work ok even as standalones as I already have the Pern background. :)

I can't remember any, seems like everything I think of is a series. I will think about it and tell you later.

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments I want to nominate kite runner

I haven’t read it yet but I’ve seen the film and it is jaw dropping especially when you realise this happens in Afghanistan

Wouldn’t mind reading it in a BR to be fair

message 13: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) | 6554 comments I've read A Thousand Splendid Suns by him and it was fabulous so Kite Runner should also be great. :)

Can you please choose one more Ahdam? And also tell me your all time favourite standalone?

message 14: by Soo (new)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Lots of good options on here but if you read Dragonsong, you gotta read Dragonsinger #2. Those two go together and they are some of my fav Pern books.

Amanda Quick is generally fun, quick historical romance. I recommend Mistress. I remember enjoying that one a lot.

For Julie Garwood, I think I liked the The Secret more than the Bride. It could be a tie. I use to read a ton of those books. Amanda Quick, Julie Garwood, etc.

Because of Dragonsong, I'm reminded of the Halfblood Chronicles by Andre Norton. Three books. I love them. =D

I could makes recs forever so I'll stop here. LOL

I choose The Inheritance and I'm really curious what you think of it!
And The Dragons of Ordinary Farm, I haven't read that one, but I really liked the Memory, Sorrow and Thorn books, plus there are dragons, what's not to like! :)

My recommendation for you is the same as for Kari: Momo. It's a really cute story, for children and adults. And I really liked, how it make you think about time and how you spend it :)

Virginie | 6133 comments From your list: A Fine and Private Place and Beauty of the Beast.

I haven't read either but they look interesting :p

Need to think a bit about my own recommendation :D

EDIT: Tooth and Claw by Jo Walton - read in 2018 with Zaara and it was amazing. It's Jane Austen with dragons :D

Siobhan (poi5ongirl) | 8724 comments So I choose...

Before I Fall because we still need to buddy read that after the great slump of Nov/Dec 2018! 😂

No Country for Old Men because I loved the film and hope the book is awesome.

And my favourite novel ever is To Kill a Mockingbird. If you've read that, I'll get back to you with my second favourite! 😅

Siobhan (poi5ongirl) | 8724 comments OK so you've totally read To Kill a Mockingbird...!

Another favourite of mine that I recommend for you is: The Day of the Triffids.

From your list https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3... by Benjamin Mee
The Renegades of Pern by Anne McCaffrey, all of her books are marvelous!

Lastly, A Memory of Light by Robert Jordan/Brandon Sanderson. This is cheating cuz you gotta read the whole series to read this one!

Lovely choices! :)
One can never go wrong with Beagle.
And I actually started to read Beauty of The Beast twice till now. Carried it with me in the suitcase twice and brought it back home unread. Third time's the charm right? :D
I have to admit the blurb is very interesting.

I loved the Neverending story. Though I wish I would have seen the movie after the book. Somehow the movie seemed better because I fell in love with it - at first sight!! :D

😂🤣That BR is indeed due! We both sort of skipped it. :D
And I hope this McCarthy is good. The last one I read was so dark and brutal that I didn't dare pick up another of his books. Loved The Road though.

I love your picks Daniel!! Thank you. :)

But I already read the whole Wheel of Time so you're gonna have to tell me another favourite if yours. :D
That series is a mostly 5 star rating from beginning to end for me.

Daniel | 1534 comments Probably The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, the Unbeliever by Donaldson. Great series began in 1977.

Hailee | 2764 comments OMG I have to nominate Shadows and Strongholds. This and its sequel Lords Of The White Castle are two of my favourite books EVER!!!!

Shadows and Strongholds was the book that got me out of a reading slump that lasted years and I will forever love them both for that reason alone.

Thinking about them has put me in the mood for a reread lol

Oh and by the way even though technically both books are a duology each book works as a standalone. Book two just follows the story of the eldest son of the hero and heroine of book one.
