Laura's Interactive Standalone BINGO - choose your favorite tome for me to read!
Hmmmm, i choose Magical Mischief instead then. I haven't read any of the books, so i just picked a title that sounds fun :)
Mayim wrote: "The Innkeeper's Song is one of my beloved books. I hope you are going to enjoy it!"Mayim, my bingo too please!
Kari, I am moving houses and I am cut off at the moment, best thing is to send me a message with a link so that I don't miss any notification (I usually have 50+ after a couple of days offline).

I will send you a link then and you you can do I when free. No hurry.

I'll add this one. But I'm going to ask you to choose one more for me and also tell me one of your all-time favourites. AFTER you're done with the moving. No rush. π
I clearly missed my chance to pick books I know anything about, so:
The Probable Future -- Seeing the future is a topic I'm always interested in...
The Loop -- I read the blurb on this because I thought it might also follow the time theme I was going for... the blurb had me a bit wary, but the reviews seem promising...
If they hadn't been taken already, I'd have picked Amy Harmon books, because Making Faces is probably my favorite standalone ever... and you've already read it last summer... so I had to dig deep into my bookshelves to find alternatives... standalones probably make up 2-3% of my 2000 books listed... I've signed up for more standalones in 2019 than are currently on my shelves...
ANYWAY, my second choice would have to be Dark Matter... it's sci-fi, and looking at your shelves, I don't think you read sci-fi much, but I think you'll like it... it's a book best read without much foreknowledge, so I don't want to say too much about it...

I might be up for reading some of these with you, as well... if I can get them on audio... both my picks, and other people's...

I think you have read more than I... Is it from fantasy only? Does magical realism count?

Anything really as long as it's among your favourites. :)
And can you also pick one more from my list please.
Anything by Amanda Quick. I used to read her books by meters. Let me know when you do read it, I'll tag along.

I got both The Loop and The Brave because of the blurb as they do seem interesting and I haven't read anything by Evans till now. And Dark Matter sounds also great.
And I'd love to BR my picks with you. Most of them should already be there on audio so that shouldn't be a problem. :)
Mayim wrote: "Anything by Amanda Quick. I used to read her books by meters. Let me know when you do read it, I'll tag along."Ok lovely. Will do! :)
And your favourite?

I might have even chosen Dark Matter over Making Faces, if I'd remembered it existed before scrolling through the 500 books on my 5-star-rating shelf... there were 4-5 other standalones in the pile, but they were mostly just romances of one variety or another, and The Golem and the Jinni... none quite stacked up to Dark Matter, which fell into one of my favorite subgenres...

I meant to say that if you do get around to reading these and want to buddy read them let me know as I am definitely up for a reread.

All set for it also! :)) And yes!!! My first Bingo read!!
Though the weekend has been a little on the crazy side, I will still finish 2 of my books by morning. :D
Hope yours was great! ππ
Hey Laura. I'm nominating Kidnapped by RL stevenson. And One of my favorite standalones is The Scarlet Pimpernel... Hope you love reading these.. :-)
Em*Greedy* (Iniya) wrote: "Hey Laura. I'm nominating Kidnapped by RL stevenson. And One of my favorite standalones is The Scarlet Pimpernel... Hope you love reading these.. :-)"Thank you! :))
Can you please choose one more from my list. I need 2. :D

Em*Greedy* (Iniya) wrote: "Hey Laura. I'm nominating Kidnapped by RL stevenson. And One of my favorite standalones is The Scarlet Pimpernel... Hope you love reading these.. :-)"I loved the Scarlet Pimpernel in my teens too...@Ini...so pulpy!
And so adventuresome. I still feel a rush of nostalgic affection for that book.
It is a good exciting afternoon's read, Laura...but the sequels are all moreish cr@p...I never got to them even.
Ohk...you've some great titles and some I've never even heard of...
Here are my noms...
12 years Northup and then (skips lightly over garwood and chadwick and mckinley and) ohhhhkkkk I choose Songs of Earth and Power by Greg Bear. Haven't read the latter. I just liked the sound of the title + Graeme rated it four stars so I just blindly placed my faith and *LEAPPPPPP*
EDIT: you seeing this Lala? Damn Net is haaaaanging so hard I...
I find Greg Bear to be a big ideas writer, noting that the majority of his work is Sci-Fi. He's consistently around a 4 star rating for me on enjoyment, but he's 5 star for ideas.
Zaara wrote: "Em*Greedy* (Iniya) wrote: "Hey Laura. I'm nominating Kidnapped by RL stevenson. And One of my favorite standalones is The Scarlet Pimpernel... You forgot to tell me your all-time favourite (not on my list!). I need to add that to my BINGO no. 3. :))
Graeme wrote: "I find Greg Bear to be a big ideas writer, noting that the majority of his work is Sci-Fi. That and the blurb on the back sounded interesting. I'm looking forward to it now. :)
And since you're here Graeme, would you mind taking a pick for me also? Please!!
And I want your all time favourite too!! :D
Geez Laura, ask a tough question... ok, I'll have a think and do my best.I note that you haven't rated GoTM by Erikson - have you read that?
The Empire series by Wurts/Feist you've read...
Ahhh... I have some Urban Fantasy that I really enjoyed big time.
Here's the series.
and
The first book takes a little bit to get going as the MC is a right prat of a real estate agent - who discovers his got a supernatural legacy...
One of those heroes in spite of themselves.
Nick Moseley is a dab hand at making you laugh and cry with the same book. He's pretty awesome, and the best (most entertaining) indie writer I know, and his books get better as they go along.
Inspired some good reviews.
I've read GoTM but didn't get to write the review so I didn't rate it either. will do it after the reread with the second BR wave. :)Your recommendation is not a standalone but I'll still add it cause it sounds great!! Thank you. :)
My first BINGO is complete! YEAY!!And now I'm starting to read. Before I Fall is the first in a BR with Siobhan. :)
Elinor Master of Gifs wrote: "this urban fantasy thing sound really good"Hi Elinor, he is - he's undeservedly unknown.
Aww, you let me choose the last two standalones for you? That's so sweet! :) It wasn't an easy decision:My first pick is The Greatest Knightπ The title made me want to choose it, but the blurb do sound interesting as well!
And my second pick is Angelmaker, it sounds weird and funny and I hope you'll like it :)
Also if you need another book for your third bingo, here's another favourite of mine: The Traitor's Son, it's actually a little long and if you don't want to add another huge tome to your TBR, that's ok :) It's listed as a series. But each book features another generation of characters, so they work well as standalones (plus, I'm not sure the other books of the series are even translated to english π ). I love the authors writing style, her characters and how history comes alive with every word.

It was your idea that I stole and you did choose great stuff also. :) I wanted you to choose my last 2.
And I was just looking for The Traitor's Son on Amazon but it isn't available in English. :(
I added it to the TBR and will keep a watch to see if an English translation comes up. Or is it there and I missed it?

Several people suggested more than 1 of their favourite titles so I spread them all up and still ended with extras. Now I'm looking around to find them. It turns out Momo is available only as paperback for instance so I'm making my buying plans. :D
Finished Before I Fall - chosen by Siobhan - this one was good but can't say I loved it
War Horse - chosen by Kathrine - a 5 star read through and through
Looking for Alaska - chosen by Slytherpuff - again good but didn't love it either
