This thread is just for scoring our totals in the competition. Please reserve a comment for doing your scoring. Our other thread will be for general discussion about our books and the competition. Any comments that are not just for scoring your totals in this thread will be deleted.

How Does the Scoring System Work?

Scoring will be based on pages. You will earn .1 points for every 10 pages read, rounded to the nearest tenth. For example:

354 pages = 3.5 points
866 pages = 8.7 points

Bonus Points:

If the book you read was part of a Buddy Read in our group:
Book Points/2 = Bonus Points
8.7/2 =4.35
Rounded up to 4.4
[Always round up for bonus points]

If the book you read counts towards a Challenge in our group:

Book Points/4 = Bonus Points
8.7/4 =2.175
Rounded up to 2.2
[Always round up for bonus points]
Therefore:
866 page book = 8.7 book points
8.7/2 = 4.4 buddy read points
8.7/4 = 2.1 challenge points
Total Points: 15.2

Since page counts vary among formats, we will accept the highest page listed on Goodreads for whatever book you're reading.

Here's the spreadsheet we've been talking about:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

All you need to do is log in with your Google account, go to your tab, and request edit access from the blue button that says View Only Mode, and once Rob checks and approves, you will be the only person who can touch your tab (other than Rob, as the maker/owner of the sheet for everyone).

Just to let everyone know, if you update here, that's great, but since we have the spreadsheet you can just do it over there.

I know Niki's team has made this just an encouragement thread where people post a new comment with their stats every time rather than going back and editing the old post. It really doesn't matter what you choose to do, but this thread no longer needs to be kept neat and organized. :)

I do have a question about Personal Challenges. For instance if I have a challenge to finish a series or, multiple series, that I had started last year or years before, do I need to create a thread of that in order to qualify for extra points??

I think so.... Under one of the challenge overall threads you should make your own:):):)

message 22: by Timelord Iain (new)

Timelord Iain | 14882 comments Yea... you just need to make a thread in the Incomplete Series or Overflowing Bookshelf challenge folders... those 2 challenges cover most books read in a year... so far I'm only using Book Cover & A-Z challenges for first books in new series... I'll have plenty of options to fill out the still open slots later in the year...

To just confirm the same thing others have said, yes, you have to set up your own thread. :) The idea is to give extra points to those who participate in the group.

Arka (ruineleint) Finished a couple today, but my page count is way too low so far. I don't think I am pulling my weight properly, but I think with a bit of effort we can overtake the Blood Eagles.

Cheers to Choko who has been incredible so far.

I hope I am able to finish Mistborn 3 soon. It will give us 17.4 points! :)

Choko (chokog) | 5102 comments Honestly, I am feeling a bit embarrassed about my reading habits, now that they are out there for people to see... I have been even considering not adding the books that I read on my own, just so the number doesn't look so big... But it is my usual way, I am not doing anything out of the ordinary. My average book count is about 270 books a year. I have no social life 😈

No, keep being yourself, your own self and habits are lovely and we adore you to bits (and pages)! <3

Reading is absolutely the last thing anybody should be ashamed of! Keep on doing your thing.

And 270 books a year is seriously awe inspiring!

I copied you Anni! XD you inspired me!

Choko, you just be you and read to your heart's content! :)

I'm not sure Frank, maybe if you just finished a book and it would count for your A-Z or Cover (not sure what you've set up), it could count? See what Jenna or Angela think :)

I'm okay with letting frank retroactively count the points for the challenge. We're only two weeks in and he set it up as soon as he noticed the requirement. If someone comes in two months and wants to do that, it's a different matter haha. Anyway, that's my vote.

Frank, are ALL of your books listed on that website? Because even half would take forever to input and I'm impressed haha.

Niki, thank you for that, much appreciated. Let me know if there is a problem and I will remove those points.

My Fict Fact list covers a good deal of my sci-fi and fantasy read and unread I have, however with approx, 8,000 (other subjects and genres as well) books at home it is tough to track everything. In my FictFact there are currently 187 series, and well over 1,500 individual books listed, and I also try to edit the list monthly.
Every time I come across a new series that sounds interesting, I'm in, and start buying despite my space limitations, LOL. That is why I can never do the Overflowing Challenge.

No problem! And I just saw Angela's comment okaying it too (sorry for missing that, Angela).

Haha that's great! I used to do that too - buy series that catch my interest before even starting the first book. I had to quit that as soon as I started actually reading (and hating) some of them. I have several complete collections of books I don't even like. I think the Overflowing Bookshelf challenge was inspired by book hoarders like us. I spent a little time today dinking around that website and it looks like a great resource, so thanks for the heads up about it. :)

message 49: by Frank (new)

Frank | 650 comments Nikki, thank you, and enjoy the site.

With buying, also, when I discover an older series that I enjoy, I actually go on Ebay or another site, and start purchasing in hardcover, the older titles, sheesh I am truly a bibliomaniac!!
