message 152: by RuinEleint (new)

RuinEleint Just finished three books and took our tally past 1800!!

Noticed something - we have read 4000 pages more than House of Chains but are 140 points behind.

We need more Buddy Reads!

If you take a look at my card, you will notice that half of what I read is non-fantasy individual reads of weird books. :)

Yeah, I noticed! I do this a little bit as well.

BTW, are you in a social sciences study program? Those are pretty specialised reads!

message 156: by Mayim (new)

Mayim de Vries | 2948 comments You can say so. ;) These are all my work-related reads.

Maybe I should do this more...

message 158: by Mayim (new)

Mayim de Vries | 2948 comments I am lucky that I like what I do for living and so even though the titles are scary I usually enjoy the books. :)

Yeah, those extra points make a big difference...

message 160: by Frank (new)

Frank | 829 comments Trying to maximize my points, I am actually almost exclusively doing buddy reads, in lieu of other reads I would like to do as well during the year.
Team!!

message 161: by Siobhan (new)

Siobhan (poi5ongirl) | 8703 comments Big percentage of my reads are buddy reads, I'm trying my best! Go team, you're all amazing!!

I was about 30 books ahead of schedule when I upped my reading goal from 182 to 300... the competition has really upped everybody's reading commitment, I think... especially in terms of Buddy Reads...

message 168: by Frank (new)

Frank | 829 comments I am only 8 ahead.
Everyone here is truly amazing, I am happy with 100 books per year.
How does everyone do it????

message 169: by Olivia (new)

Olivia (vinjii) | 1147 comments I'm still behind and I only read a 100 books a year. All my friends think I'm a reading machine and don't understand how I read this much and then I joined this competition and now I feel wholly inadequate xD

Brian | 1681 comments I read 60 last year and thought that was good. 😂 I’m really trying to read a lot more and can barely keep up with you animals!! Also, had one friend on Goodreads (my wife) before I joined FBR now have over 30. Y’all are awesome peeps!

Wow!! Go on girl. :)

I'm 12 ahead I think, target is only 50 which is good for me, but I think this challenge is going to help me smash it!

message 181: by Anni (new)

Anni | 5066 comments Dear lovely team 😁 As the other teams are a bit more active and I don't want to disturb their disscussions I thought we could start one as well. Of course only when you are interested, because that's one thing I love about this group, that you can come and talk about Books and everything that comes to your mind and everyone is so friendly that it feels sort of cozy 😊

message 182: by Siobhan (new)

Siobhan (poi5ongirl) | 8703 comments Hello lovely Anni :) how are you doing? I'm feeling a little bit slumpy at the moment, I'm up to chapter 7 in Six of Crows and haven't felt like picking it up again since yesterday morning.
I'm gonna have to clear some buddy reads off my schedule coz I'm getting burnt out. :/ sorry guys. I will still be reading though! Hopefully even quicker if I don't feel stressed about it.

message 183: by Anni (last edited Mar 19, 2018 02:01PM) (new)

Anni | 5066 comments I don't thing anyone will be angry with you for removing some of your buddy reads. The most important thing is to have fun :) That's also a great topic, because I'm super curious what you do when you're in a reading slump, what does help you? If I don't feel like reading at all I take a break and do something else I like (... Yeah, that's not really a secret strategy and rather an obvious thing to do). I for example love to be creative and do something with my own hands. It's very satisfying when I do something and get something as an result afterwards I can hold in my hand, for example knitting. Knitting socks calms me down and selfmade socks make great present, so it's a win-win thing 😊 And after a while I get annoyed with my yarn and be very eager to pick up a book again :)

message 184: by Siobhan (new)

Siobhan (poi5ongirl) | 8703 comments That's a great thing to do when you're in a slump! I on the other hand am not very productive... I've been binge watching Hell's Kitchen on Netflix! Love a bit of Gordon Ramsay xD
I used to average about 25 books a year because I watched a lot of TV series and went out a lot. But recently my reading has increased so much, so this is the first time I'm starting to feel a slump and I want to stop it before it takes hold. I'm probably going to switch to a true crime book I'm also reading which is really interesting me.

Thank you so much for your support as well sweetie 😘

message 185: by Anni (new)

Anni | 5066 comments We are still waiting for the internet connection for our house... We moved here last September, right into a huge disscussions our small village had with the old internet provider (nobody get's the promised capacity, the connection was unearthly slow or it fails entirely...). So now we are getting a new provider for our village and glas fibre, but it's taking its time... Because we don't want to stay for 2 years with the old provider we choose the new one and have no internet until the fibre will be here... So I stopped nearly entirely to watch series, but can't wait to start again 😉 Me and my boyfriend started to re-watch Game of thrones because this is one of the few series we own on BlueRay 😅

message 186: by Siobhan (new)

Siobhan (poi5ongirl) | 8703 comments I love Game of Thrones so much! Would love to find time to rewatch it. I'm thinking of doing a reread with the audiobooks as I can just put them on in the car when I couldn't be reading anything else.
That must be quite hard not having Internet so long. Mine was broken for a month last year, it got fixed while I was in Berlin actually, and we struggled without it. We realised how much we just take it for granted!

jess (nu6586) | 1729 comments Just wanted to congratulate you guys on your awesome pages read #!!!! Let’s keep the pressure on this inflated HOC bunch of jolly-rogers!

Blood Eagle

message 188: by RuinEleint (new)

RuinEleint I have more or less figured out how to maximise my reading output - I usually read around 3 books together, and now all of those are either BR or Challenge books. Also using Audiobooks is a great idea as the speed of narration can be increased.

I am extremely busy at the moment due to job issues. Hopefully things will ease out later in the year so that I can read more.

message 189: by Angela, I'm Silverfox lost (new)

Angela | 3694 comments Mod
Siobhan, I've had to pull out of so many buddy reads this year and as you can see from my count I'm one of the low performers in the group. I've prioritised Malazan over everything else as well, so if buddy reads have gotten in the way they've had to go.

Haha I have been reading a lot of kids picture books, but they don't count. Basically, as I've studying this year to be a primary school teacher.

message 190: by Siobhan (new)

Siobhan (poi5ongirl) | 8703 comments That makes perfect sense Angela, if you're focusing on Malazan other stuff will have to wait.
And I'm surprised you've had time to read at all whilst studying to be a teacher!! Such hard work. I hope it's going well for you and you're enjoying it. :)

I FINALLY finished my exams and had my result. Now, I can go back to reading. It feels like it has been YEARS since I completed a book. Sorry for not giving you guys any points.

message 194: by Anni (new)

Anni | 5066 comments Congrats on finishing your Exams, Khushi! I hope you are happy with the results. And you don't have to be sorry, this competition is just for fun and everyone contribute as much as he/she can and like to. :)
