What are you doing right now? Part 2

Wow--how often do you get snow in Jerusalem? I am guessing it's not a regular occurrence.

It happens more frequently than it used to. About every other year it is cold enough for snow in the higher hills but it only lasts for about a day so all the complaints about the municipality not having enough gritters or snow ploughs is pretty ridiculous.
The problem is people have no idea how to dress for it or how to keep their houses warm.
I think is was 2015 when we had what was named 'Frankenstorm'. Lots of children were on their annual school trips because forecasters told the Education Ministry the storm would be mild and therefore no refunds would be issued for cancellations. Thousands of school children were trapped in the Jerusalem area when Route 1 (Tel Aviv-Jerusalem) was covered metres-deep in snow. Some of the children were on buses trying to get home and army search & rescue had to retrieve them before frostbite set-in. Others, like my daughter, spent three days having snowball fights in a hostel.

I knew that Israel sometimes got snow in the mountains from somewhere. I guess with the global climate change and the bigger extremes you are seeing it more often now.

We get a surprising amount of weather from the Black Sea - that is normally the cold stuff. The hot and sandy tends to come from the opposite direction.

Okay, I understand now. I have never paid attention to how the weather moves over there. Where I grew up all of our weather comes in from the Pacific due to the mountains. It was really only when I moved to one of the New England states that I saw how often the weather moves up the Canadian coast, around the arctic and then south in this direction (so cold weather is blamed on Canada ;) ). We also get weather from other directions.
When I was on the prairies/plains/steppes in Saskatchewan and Kansas, weather came from all directions due to lack of mountains or oceans/large seas.

That is why that area is more prone to tornedoes than either the East or West coast of North America!
But to return to Esther's comments, I never realized that Israel had snowstorms with meters deep snow, even if infrequently!! Weather is one of those areas in which people are still parochial I guess...

Israel is remarkable climate-wise.
In the north we have Mount Hermon which has a snow season -between 6-8 weeks long!! Then the Galilee, the Dead Sea is the lowest point above sea but below sea level , then the desert and Eilat in the far South is sub-tropical.

That is why that area is mo..."
Interesting, and I've learned something :). I had just assumed that it was because of the lack of mountains and the wide openness of everything, but I am not much of a meteorologist.

That is why ..."
Well, it is due to the lack of mountains in that weather can come from all directions which can then collide and form twisters.

That is why ..."
Fascinating!

Right--which is different than hurricanes which form on the water, but tend to happen in three main parts of the world.

Wow, that's great that you never do those. Well, the laundry part. I used to love cooking before I had all of these allergies, etc as I was a foodie.

Well, that is not so great then. I was simply thinking you had very helpful family :).
Being born premature can lead to life long troubles, and I am sorry that you have to have these. I had a sister who died at 3 days old to RDS, but that was in 1966 and she wasn't extremely early--about a month or so. I never even got to see her since back then children weren't allowed to visit, my mother had had a c-section (always 10 days earlier than the date and no ultrasounds to determine dates) and back then that was a 10 day stay. My dad snuck us in once after my sister passed.

Good. Also my daughter the only proble she's had was some pain on her arm.
I'm havong mine in two weeks time - hopefully, since I was supposed to receive AstraZenica, and now it has been decided to have it only for those older than 60

Yes, and apparently moving your arm a lot can reduce that because it helps the vaccine disperse. My husband had his, then went to work all day and had no pain. I had mine in the late afternoon, moved my arm only somewhat and had some, but not so much I needed to do anything other than to sleep on only one side.
I plan to do a lot more arm movement after my next one since I'll be getting it at the same time of the day.
Good to know Karin: Marta will have her second injection in 10 days, I mine at the beginning of May. I think I'll follow your advice

I will remember that, thanks Karin. I think I will have to wait a while where I am as they're doing it in age groups. My mum is getting her second on Saturday, my sister and granny are both fully vaccinated now, my sister is a nurse so that's why she is vaccinated before me.
Hopefully I haven't got much longer to wait.

Hope not, and that's for all of us, Alannah.
also here in Italy we are going on with age groups, but also frail people and people living with them. That's why I'm having one, because of my daughter's illness. All my frineds and collegues are still waiting

I am ignoring the news, and almost everything else, DH and I sumerse ourselves in the Snooker Championship.
They have a capacity audience for the final. The UK government are using it as a test case to see how audiences can be organised safely.
It is weird to see the sea of masks in the backgroud behind the players but no more weird than this last year when all games have been played without an audience and in some cases without a referee.

Yes, there will be finger pointing because the stand collapsed, but it won't help those who lost their loves, were injured and/or lost loved ones in this.

Covid restrictions are lightening up here, which is fabulous.

Yesterday the fire was unpleasantly close to where my daughter is living but fortunately she did not have to evacuate and there have not been any fatalities.

I am in an air conditioned office and midday I only have to go outside to walk to the lunch hall. It takes five minutes but it feels like my skin is being baked.
At least we are used to coping with such hot weather. I feel so sorry for everyone suffering heatwaves in 'traditionally cold' countries.
