I started my Madam Tutti Fruiti read only yesterday, The Sea, the Sea. Haven't made much of a dent yet, but it's picking up some steam. Good Halloween reading it seems with the isolated coastal atmosphere and hint of something supernatural afoot.
KimeyDiann wrote: "@Cherie - How was AJ Fikry? I've had it on my TBR but haven't actually purchased it yet..."I really liked it Kimey. It is quite different and I am glad I finally got to it. It is a short little story. The characters and dialogue are great!
I finally finished Dragonfly in Amber and have started listening to Voyager. I am enjoying American Gods so far. I am almost 150 pages into the story. I like Gaiman's dark humor and the way he can tell a story. I am liking it better than I did Good Omens. I like some of the little side stories Gaiman throws in-between the main story. I woke up in the middle of the night, still giggling about Frank Lloyd Wright having an evil twin brother.
I started listening to the audiobook of Midwinter of the Spirit which is for a buddy read and the chunkster challenge. I really liked the first book in this series and I am enjoying this one too so far.
Finished today The Headhunter's Daughter: A Mystery by Tamar Myers. It was a funny and interesting reading. Though it is a mystery it handles with topics like racism, colonialism and tribal Africa. I'll start today The Orchid House by Lucinda Riley. I've read so many good things about it! I'm really expectant about this novel.

Pragya,
I wouldn't call it zooming. Peggy is one book ahead of me. :)
Up until now, Dragonfly in Amber is the longest audio book I have listened to. It was 38 hours, but Voyager is 42 hours. I could read the books, but I love to listen to Davina Porter and do not want to speed up. ☺ ☺ ☺ oh, look, I figured out how Almeta does them. ☻ ☻ ☻ ♥ ♥ ♦ ♦ he he he. I read her directions a long time ago, but never tried... ♣ ♠

ReadingvThis Book Is Full of Spiders: Seriously, Dude, Don't Touch It bought it in thrills and chills sale but its hilarious. Not thrillinh or chilling hopefully thats the normal reaction
Cherie wrote: "KimeyDiann wrote: "@Cherie - How was AJ Fikry? I've had it on my TBR but haven't actually purchased it yet..."I really liked it Kimey. It is quite different and I am glad I finally got to it. I..."
Good to know! I noticed the other day that it is available on Kindle Unlimited so I may have to move it up the TBR list.
Tasha wrote: "that one would be thrilling and chilling me...*shivers*"Dislike spiders or actual phobia?
dislike. I don't mind if they stay away but the idea of them crawling in my brain is where I draw the line. ;)
I know there is some stat somewhere that says we all consume x amount of spiders during our sleep in a life time. How they can establish those stats I'm not sure. But a couple of days ago, I woke up when my alarm went off and when my eyes opened and started to focus, there was a small spider sat on top of the duvet about 2 inches from my mouth! Not how I want to be greeted in the morning even though I don't mind spiders. If my alarm had gone off 10 minutes later, would it have made it's way in to my mouth?!?
This is the follow up to john dies in the end which i cannot find a link for. I never read it and the aithor says in intriductiob that that book sucked and don't waste your time reading it
I finished Doomsday Book. This was my first Connie Willis and really liked it. I've reserved another one, To Say Nothing of the Dog, through my library.
I was wondering how that book is, Roz. Glad to hear you liked it and are mvoving on. It's gotten mixed reviews from my friends here.
I think if a book gets mixed or varied reviews, I'm probably more likely to give it a try. I need to find out for myself. I guess I'm not terribly trusting that way, a bit if a skeptic in most situations. This one combines time travel and historical fiction so it fits nicely in with the types of books I gravitate toward. I didn't give it 5 stars because it could have used some editing. But I liked the characters, I worried about them and didn't want anyone to die even though I knew some would. It kept my interest to the end.
Roz wrote: "I finished Doomsday Book. This was my first Connie Willis and really liked it. I've reserved another one, To Say Nothing of the Dog, through my library."To say nothing is a funny one.
Roz wrote: "I finished Doomsday Book. This was my first Connie Willis and really liked it. I've reserved another one, To Say Nothing of the Dog, through my library."I liked both of these. Glad you liked Doomsday, Roz. I need to look what else Connie Willis has written.
I'm reading Yellow Crocus for the MTF challenge and I'm really enjoying it. I know that black people were slaves and the attitudes and behaviour towards them horrible, but I'm shocked all over again every time I read about it.
Sarah wrote: "I know there is some stat somewhere that says we all consume x amount of spiders during our sleep in a life time. How they can establish those stats I'm not sure. But a couple of days ago, I woke u..."I feel imaginary creepy crawlies on me after reading that! LOL
@SarahYou may check this site about eating bugs in sleep. It seems to be just another urban myth

That's good to know Mariab - thanks for the link!So I finished my Madame Tutti Fruiti read Odd Thomas and I'm starting Swan Song for the buddy read and it's also a chunkster of mine.
I'm reading Tormenta de espadas (A song of ice and fire III - a storm of swords) by George R. R. Martin and also yesterday started the Surrender trilogy by Maya Banks
Travis of NNY wrote: "I started Cujo so far its thoroughly boring me"I only saw the dog in the movie, but it scared the heck out of me (and I did not even watch the whole movie). No way was I going to read that book!
Sorry it is boring you though.
Peggy wrote: "I'm reading Yellow Crocus for the MTF challenge and I'm really enjoying it. I know that black people were slaves and the attitudes and behaviour towards them horrible, but I'm shock..."Peggy,
It is no worse than what the English did with their indentured servants, who were not black. The whole slavery and indentured servent aspect of human behavior is what always comes back and shocks me. I cannot believe what the English did to the Scotts (the Highlanders) over the whole Jacobite question. I never understood it until I started reading Outlander.
You migt be interested in May the Road Rise Up to Meet You. I added YC to my TBR list.
Was Cujo a saint Bernard in the movie. If he was then it was a different movie about a killer dog I remember watching. It was a huge black dog whatever I watched and it was scary
Travis,Are you sure you are not remembering an early movie version of The Hound of the Baskervilles? It is the only big, black, scary movie dog that I can think of.
The Cujo I remember was a St. Bernard.
I have no idea. May have been more than just killer dogs. Might have been a whole lab of killer animals. It was over 20 years ago when I watched it.
The only film with kind of dogs I remember is Dog Soldiers which is a British horror movie. It's werewolves though but I thought it was good - if you haven't seen it you should check it out.

Max pops into my head for some reason.... going to google this!
Okay, Man's Best Friend is the movie I'm thinking of I do believe. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107504/
It scared the crap out of me!
Peggy wrote: "I started The Rosie Effect. I'm 3 or 4 chapters in and already had to smile at Don several times :)"Good to hear. :D

I think that it will be release only in December in the US. I could be wrong.

It is all about the narrator, a good narrator can make a mediocre book better while a bad narrator can make an excellent book drag. Don't give up on audiobooks just yet.
@Cherie - How was AJ Fikery? I've had it on my TBR but haven't actually purchased it yet.
