Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I'm listening to A Confederacy of Dunces. Narration is great. Because of that story is hilarious while at the same time being possibly the most vile, perverse bunch of rubbish I've ever read. I'm torn between loving and hating it. So confused to my emotions right now lolA Confederacy of Dunces

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I hope you do better with it than I did, Travis.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I started In the Company of Sherlock Holmes: Stories Inspired by the Holmes Canon. I loved the first one and did not care for the 2nd so far. I also started The Eye of Minds, just because it was on my Nook (I think my daughter bought it). This is a YA fantasy about three teenagers involved in an imersion game. I have read 50 pages of 230. I need one more book to finish with 140 for the year, so I will probably finish it.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I finished The Slow Regard of Silent Things yesterday. Today I think I'll start The Orphan Sky to review for Netgalley, which will be my last book for this year.

It took a bit for me yo warm up to it. I think I started it then switched to another book. Seriously considered abondoning it, then put it on one more time. This may end up a 5 star read for me now. I have been so greatly entertained by such a mish mash of characters.

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Maybe one day I'll give it a retry. I can't remember how far I was into the story before I decided I'd had enough.

message 1208: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments I finished my last book for 2014. I read The Sense of an Ending. Only 150 pages. I gave it 5 stars. It's a make-me-think book. Marvelous!! I'm going to have to read it again. Has anyone else read it?

Have a happy and healthy New Year.

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Nice to finish off the year with a 5 star book, Roz! I haven't read that one.

I finished my last read of 2014 in the wee hours this morning - The Devil's Star. My prediction about my last read was off.

message 1210: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I'm finishing up This House is Haunted as my last read for the year. I wasn't sure what to expect bc of mixed reviews but I have thoroughly enjoyed it. A creepy, spooky book. My first by the author and I'm planning on reading more of his stuff. I haven't yet decided between 4 or 5 stars.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I have not read your book, Roz, but have it on my list. Good to hear it is worth looking forward to.

I finished The Eye of Mind book I started. It was an ok story. The author wrote The Maze Runner Series and this is the first book in a new series. I think this is a 3 for me. There was a lot of action, but the characters were a little hollow. The story has a Matrix like feeling and nothing is really REAL. The writing was clean and understandable. Nothing eloquent or outstanding to write home about. A little teenage humor and handholding to make it have an emotional feel for the YAers.

Mostly, I felt like I feel when I watch my grandson play play a video game. No emotion, just watching, trying to figure out what he is doing as he runs around from place to place.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I finished my last read of 2014, The Orange Girl, yesterday afternoon. It was a nice little book to finish up the year with and I gave it 4 stars.

My first read of 2015 is going to be The Absolutist. I had planned on reading something for the 'Series' challenge first but this book is just saying "read me now".

Glad to hear that you enjoyed this one Tasha! I read it when it was first published in 2013 and thought it was really good. It was a really enjoyable ghost story. It was also my first book by John Boyne and it made me want to read more of his work too, although I haven't actually gotten around to doing so until now.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I am reading my first series book, but getting ready to go to bed. Had to stay up to get started.

message 1215: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments I'm starting Gilead today. Although it wasn't my plan this book be my first one in the series challenge, but it finally will be, since I couldn't started it the day before yesterday as it was my plan (couldn't read a page of anything in the last 2 days, auch!). Not sure if I'll continue the series. It depends how I like it (this one was chosen for my book January reading), but in any case it will count me 5 points. It's not that I am expecting not liking it. It actually looks really good. Let's see.

I'll start The Neverending Story today too. I brought it from the library a few days ago and it is burning my hands!

message 1216: by Tasha (last edited Jan 01, 2015 05:50AM) (new)

Tasha Lisa, I'll be looking to see what you think of The Absolutist. I have that one on my tbr as well.

I will be starting Gone With the Wind today which will probably take me all month to read, I'm picking Black Hawk Down back up today as well. For the series challenge I'll be starting off with The Crown Conspiracy but mine is in the omnibus Theft of Swords. These 3 should keep me busy for a while!

message 1218: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments How do you like it Tasha? I've had the book on my tbr for a while, and I watched the first season of the tv show in the past few weeks. I love it!

Don't want to read the book now for a while though, I'm afraid it might spoil the show.

message 1219: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I just started so it's early still but it seems good so far. I want to watch the show too. I was torn about listening to it with wanting to watch the show but I was in such an audio funk, I couldn't find anything I was in the mood to listen to and this one just jumped out. I hear the two are different and that the series is great. I may watch it later this year.

I will let you know what I think Tasha. I have heard nothing but good things about it so fingers crossed that we will both feel the same. Also, I hope you enjoy 'Theft of Swords'. It's so good!
