R14: Team #16 ~ Read it and Weep

Shelf #6 - Mythology

The Kiss of Deception
Rating: ★★★★
Completed: 02/28
Final Thoughts:
This one barely made 4 stars. I enjoyed it and I want to continue the series. Especially since this one ended in a cliffhanger. There were just a couple things that irritated me. The biggest thing was the freaking love triangle. I do not understand why every freaking YA fantasy series has to have a love triangle? What is wrong with just one single love interest? Or even no love interest at all (gasp!)? That was my biggest complaint.
My other big complaint doesn't have anything to do with the story at all. Why is Emily Rankin the only narrator noted on the audiobook? There were at least 3. The male narrator that read the POVs from the guys sounded soooooo familiar but I couldn't place him! It's driving me crazy! And since he isn't mentioned in the audiobook description I can't look him up. Curses!

I'll add them to the audiobook page.

Ignore small rant up above especially if you have not already read this book. This was amazing and I don't know how someone could do everything she possibly did. Is everyone trying to see how thin they can stretch Cassie, everyone wants to pick on her yet when she kicks your ass you can't believe it. Sometimes it's not about the power its how you use it. I think growing up with vampires was a perfect way for her to learn and get ahead of things they taught her how to manipulate things that aren't always in your control. Mircea is something I don't want to talk to much about but man am I hating him more and more. There is a reason why I am team Pritkin, Pritkin makes her grow and work hard and strives for her to be the better her and Mircea just wants her to do what he wants and sit there and look pretty. Grow up old man! Lose that attitude in the decade you found it.... okay okay serious note though *Shakes Karen Chance in a good way* the next book needs to be out faster how could you come out with this huge book and not solve anything! Okay some questions where answered but not the ones I wanted. I like how Cassie is gaining more people to her and they are seeing how these jerks are really treating her when all she is trying to is keep everyone safe and trying to avoid the gods coming through as well. What more do people want seriously. Okay okay I am done seriously I will just go over here and sit in the corner waiting for the next book and this one better have the answers I am looking for!["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

That is really annoying. So glad that Sandra could find the information. It would drive me batty trying to remember whose voice it is!
I agree with you about the love triangles - way too overdone.

Perhaps it will fit one of the shelves and I'll give myself the needed push.

Thank you! It's weird that even audible didn't have all the narrators acknowledged. Ryan Gesell is the familiar voice I was talking about. Unfortunately I still can't find something he's done that I know. He must remind me of somebody else then. That's all I can think of.

Nope :/ Audible showed all them too and I haven't listened to any of them. He must have just one of those voices.

It's well worth the effort, Raquel.
I put off beginning the series for years because of the futuristic aspects (not my cup of tea), but once I realized that they are actually police procedurals, I've become hooked. Roarke and Eve's chemistry and banter are off the charts.

Seduction in Death by J. D. Robb
Finished: March 4
Rating: 4 Stars
Although the suspense plots in this series are often obvious and predictable (in this one, the villain is revealed early on), the character development and dialogue make the books very worthwhile. Eve, Roarke and their friends are are like one large extended family and it is entertaining following the updates in their lives. Looking forward to the next book.

Review:
Though we follow three new heros Jason, Piper, and Leo... Percy's adventures are long from over. We still see some of the people we met in the first series in this one as well so that was awesome. Nothing much has changed with the Gods being gods and not having all that pride and ego. I liked the three different perspectives though out the book as well, I also like the Roman aspect of things other than just Greek. Interesting spin on things I am excited to see where it goes.

Final Thoughts:
I had a difficult time getting into this one. I liked that we got POVs from the kids as well as the MCs. The characters were okay. The world building was okay. The romance was just okay. Everything was just that. Okay. Nothing spectacular. I doubt I'll read any more of this series.

But at least you see the kids in the Innkeeper series, and they're all grown up.

Innkeeper is really good too. Only 3 books out so in that one, so far.

#2 of Hidden Legacy is end of May, early June - can't wait!!!

I've read the whole series and while it isn't as good as Kate Daniels, I did enjoy it overall. I agree with Sandra that it is more fantasy than UF, which may explain why it isn't as good.
Kate Daniels definitely gets better by each book and from #3, I was addicted. Hidden Legacy is also fantastic. It's been so long since the first book came out that I'm going to have to listen to it again before the new releases.

I DNFed Kate Daniels at first but thank God above I restarted with a buddy read. It's one of my favorite series of all time. After falling in love with the series, I have a new appreciation for the first book. It laid the foundation for all the others that follow and while you have to trudge through some awkward world-building, it's soooooooooo worth it.
Burn For Me was amazing and I can't wait for book 2. I also like the InnKeeper Chronicles and the novella

Review:
Who wrote this book? Because I don't think Shelly Laurenston did. Everything was off. The humor was flat. The violence was so unnecessary. And I mean that has to be really bad if I say it was too violent for a urban fantasy. For example, there was a scene where our fair heroine, rips a man from groin to guts, shreds his heart with her blade, and then stabs him in both eyes. It's like really? Really? I wanted to like this story because as with my criticism of other PNRs who lack diversity, Laurenston writes with diverse characters and audiences in mind. There were also a ton of grammatical errors in the book. Also what was with the continuous reminders of why the crows were bad ass? Okay we established how violent and kick ass they were in the first few scenes, but it constantly said things "A blow like that would hurt a human, however to a crow it was just a glancing blow." This at like the 60% mark. It was written like a bad self pub from an amature author at some points.
I don't know if this book was a casualty of Samhain. It did not turn out well. I don't know if I'll continue the series.

Good Job!! :D

Night Huntress is good, but I've never been able to muster up the same amount of fangirling appreciation for Bones as so many other readers. Perhaps it is because I listened to it on audio and Tavia Gilbert's Cockney accent for him really reduces his sex appeal, lol!

Night Huntress is good, but I've ..."
That's funny because I've been listening to the audiobooks as well and I really enjoy them! Though I did mention to my buddy reading partner that I thought the narrator needed work on her accents. I didn't think they were that great. But eventually the narrator grew on me enough that it no longer bothered me.

I liked her narration of the other characters and her version of Vlad is swoonworthy. It is only her voice for Bones that I find grating. I cannot take him seriously as an alpha male or lover with the ridiculous accent.

is it this one?

Yes! I just got on the computer to update it with a link but that's correct!

Review:
I LOVED this book! Finally! A five star read for me. I feel like it's been a good long while since I read a book that was super interesting, I didn't feel like putting down, I didn't want to skip ahead or make the story go faster. This was great. Now mind you, I was confused at first and I thought the Horde that was referred to were some kind of monsters but thanks to the Great Internet of the Sky, I understand what was being referenced. I LOVED Mina. She was a great heroine! She was strong, smart, reliable, courageous without being stupid while also being vulnerable, relatable, and likeable. You get to read a lot of heroines who rush headlong into danger and end up putting everybody else in danger because they themselves need to be rescued. Mina does the rescuing all on her own. She's the real Hero of this story. I enjoyed Rhys too but I woud definitely say Mina stole the show in this one. It's funny because usually I have to fall in love with the hero to love a story like this but Mina won it for me.
This story was very original to me. I have not read much steampunk before but this book was so imaginative and vivid. The characters and back story was so interesting and I love the worldbuilding of the Buggers, the Horde, nanoagents, poor people with tech for body parts, the Blacksmith, class and race issues, etc. Lovely world and I can't wait to revisit it in book 2!

This was alright but not the best it didn't wow me. I wanted more of the magic(skill) and what not and all I got is uppity people thinking they are better than others just because they have magic. I was waiting for this huge fight and the oppressed rising up and taking back their own lives instead I get a love story and oh maybe some of these people deserve where they are at like the human that was made to act like a dog. (view spoiler) I am interested in continuing on because I want to know where Luke is going to end up and if he will get out of all this mess it just won't be top priority to get to.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Finished: February 27
Rating: 3 Stars
Unfortunately, this installment in the Eternal Guardians series is a big disappointment. The romance at the center of the story between Titus and Natasa is mediocre at best. Their chemistry is lackluster and it is difficult to care what about what happens to them one way or the other.
That said, the developments in the ongoing storyline of the conflict between the Argonauts and the Greek gods are excellent and make this book well worth the read. Naughton's skillful merging of Greek mythology into the plot is incredible and the updates on secondary characters are gripping.
Nick's book is next and the short glimpse at what lies in store for him is very tantalizing. Looking forward to it.
