Damn Roarke moves fast! this is only the second book man I thought that would take a while, maybe it will she didn't answer him so maybe she thinks it over. In this episode... reading these makes me feel like I am watching an episode of Criminal minds or CSI or any of the other shows like that. I love it no wonder she has so many already out and more on the way. And even though Eve is a big bad detective she still has that mystery she doesn't want to remember in her past... so she does have her failings but she is working through them for Roarke and even though she takes two steps back sometimes and one step forward he is there for her just pushing her just enough. Roarke is growing on me and I like how he is very protective of Eve and has her back but is also understanding enough to be her own person.

Enjoyable. Typical YA fantasy/pnr. I thought her mom keeping quiet all her life was a little messed up. The fact that shifters could smell her power (or whatever) would mean that she would eventually come up against one. So her mom should at least have prepared her for the supernatural side of the world. I really hate love triangles but they seem to be a mandatory trope in all YA fantasy books nowadays. Luckily the one in this book wasn't so bad. The third in the triangle was barely a blip on the heroine's radar. So at least I don't have to worry about her bouncing back and forth between the guys. I hate that shit.

Shelf #9: Kickass Hero

Heart of Fire by Linda Howard
Finished: April 11
Rating: 4 Stars
The daughter of a notorious "crackpot" archeologist, Jillian Sherwood is determined to restore her father's reputation, as well as her own, by locating the lost Stone City of the Anzar, the legendary home of the Amazon warriors. To attain her goal, Jillian must join forces with Ben Lewis, a womanizing ruffian and the best river guide Brazil has to offer. As Ben and Jillian clash wills and wits, danger lurks around every bend and they will have to work together to get out of the jungle in one piece.
An action-packed romp through the jungle with a strong willed and feisty heroine, and a gorgeous, if somewhat overly testosterone laden, hero.
The sparks between Jillian and Ben fly from the start and their snarky repartee, as he tries to get in her pants at every opportunity and she stops him in his tracks, is very amusing. Their romance develops slowly but surely toward the inevitable, and the eventual "I love yous" are sweet and believable.
The basic plot involving the expedition down the Rio Negro is captivating. Howard has certainly done her due diligence on the locale both in terms of the detailed descriptions of the journey, including information on the river itself, the wildlife and the various aspects of archeological research, as well as the specifics of the history and the legend of the Amazons.
The villains are apparent from the start, but this does not reduce the tension or suspense one iota.
In sun, a steamy hot romance with likable characters and an exciting storyline.

Review:
This was an amazing book. Was it super original? Not necessarily. It was the romantic trope of emotionally stunted heroine who suffered major life trauma meets former play boy who is willing to change his life. What I LOVED about this book, what has been different from any other comptemporary NA that I've read with this same trope is that this heroine took her ass to THERAPY! It's a major part of the story. I mean how refreshing is that??!! A real life, non fairy tale way of dealind with MAJOR trauma. Man I can't say how much I appreciate that and not just the whole "Love heals of wounds" kind of thing. When you are battling real live mental illness, depression, anxiety, you need help! And she got help. Though she still had moment sof nuerosis and I loved all the characters. They were all super interesting, had great interactions with one another and left me hungry for more!

A lot of crap happens in this book and most of it I can't talk about with out giving something away. Do not read spoiler if you have not read this book I wrote some things about the ending. (view spoiler)
It really is all about the team work. That is what I am thinking they are learning through out this part of the quest is that they each need one another and are useful even if they don't think they are at that moment. Maybe these seven can prove to others that Rome and Greece counterparts can work together and get a lot done when they aren't fighting all the time.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

A little far fetched but I still enjoyed it. I really like this author's Jack Daniels series and this book had the same kind of feel. Especially since Jack makes an appearance in this story. I liked that it was fast paced and had lots of action but didn't drag on for too long. I rolled my eyes at all the (view spoiler) and the (view spoiler) . But I did enjoy it enough to check out book 2.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

No Good Duke Goes Unpunished by Sarah MacLean
Finished: April 22
Rating: 4 Stars
A well-written tale of betrayal and vengeance with an incredible hero and a sympathetic heroine, but there is something missing from the romance.
Temple is an absolute stunner and slots into all of my favorite hero types - a scarred, tortured giant of a man brought to his knees by a woman (in more ways than one).
Mara is a enchanting heroine. Although her deceptive and destructive actions in the past should make the reader despise her, MacLean manages to evoke sympathy and understanding for a woman who felt she had no other choice, and now vows to atone for her deeds.
Temple and Mara's battle of wits and words as they each attempt to get the upper hand in their "negotiations" is absorbing. Unfortunately, their verbal chemistry does not extend to the physical and their sexual tension remains unfulfilled as the love scenes are lukewarm and perfunctory.
The minor secondary plot involving Mara's dissolute brother adds some suspense to the storyline, but is woefully underdeveloped and the resolution is rater disappointing.
In sum, No Good Duke Goes Unpunished is an enjoyable addition to the series even though the romantic elements do not live up to their full potential.

Review:
I liked seeing Gin when she was just starting out and made lots of mistakes. You never start out great you are made that way through trial and error. It was nice to see Gin not so patient and rushing in and sometimes just going with her feelings on things. She did learn from it and became a better assassin because of it. I can understand why this one wasn't liked very much it was kind of slow to get through for me as well but I still enjoyed it nevertheless. Owen is also in more of Gin's past then we know about :) which I liked because it kinda shows how they were meant to be since they kept running into one another.
