Carolyn | 9836 comments Ooops! Started reading the first few pages The Dark Lake by Sarah Bailey The Dark Lake by Sarah Bailey then realised it's in next month's challenge so I'll have to put it aside till next Wednesday. Looks really good though!

Instead I've started The Horse Thief by Tea Cooper The Horse Thief by Tea Cooper.

I enjoyed that one Owl! But I am a fan of dystopian books.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments As well as my usual bedside read, I have two books on the go because of weight: Sherlock Holmes: The Australian Casebook is a hardcover that weighs over a kilo, so it's OK for my treadmill/at home read, but a bit much to carry on my walks, for which I have started The Accident on the A35

I partly chose it after seeing your review!
I think the subject matter and the writing is good and I'm enjoying it, Phrynne, and I'm thinking I'll finish it as I'm dying (hehe) to know what happens! The only problem is that with blocking out all the outside and then wearing blindfolds when outdoors, I'm feeling claustrophobic as it's like I'm unable to see either! It's that well written!
Small doses required!

I can understand this - always save my smaller books for travel! But when you say your walks ... do you read while walking?! Or just to-and-from places?

I remember reading while walking home from school as a kid, I'm sad I lost the talent of reading and walking at the same time!

I read part of Blood Meridian, or the Evening Redness in the West while walking home from dropping my car off for a service, and then walking back to pick it up when it was ready. It was surreal. It was a typical 35 degree dry January day and the book is set in the Sonoran Desert.

Yes, Krystal, that's exactly what I mean, I walk to the nearby beach, reading as I walk along.

Oh wow that would have been an incredible reading experience!

Sounds like a fantastic pastime Marianne!

Closest I come is reading on a stationary bike at the gym lol

Ryan I just started the very modern, extremely speculative Too Like the Lightning by Ada Palmer. I also neglected to mention that a couple of weeks ago I began reading Victoria Aveyard's derivative YA fantasy Red Queen.

Sally906 | 87 comments I’ve retreated back into my tweens and reading my way through Enid Blytons Mallory Towers series.

Currently i am up to book 4 Upper Fourth at Malory Towers (Malory Towers, #4) by Enid Blyton Upper Fourth at Malory Towers - I went to an English boarding school and it was no Mallory Towers - but lots of similarities - mischief, midnight feats and the like.

I read all those books too Sally when I first started high school in the UK. I didn't board but went to a very proper girls school. Loved them!
The other series I loved was the Chalet school series (can't remember the author), set in Austria - lots of adventures!

A friend I met on a children's book site was a finalist on The Einstein Factor and her special subject was the Malory Towers series. She was very envious of me when I told her I had had 6 years at a girls boarding school. Yes, midnight feasts, raiding the pantry etc..

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Yes, Phrynne, I have been in a slump for months now, unable to concentrate on reading while focussed on the renovations to my new abode and organising myself being ready to move. Not reading has added to my stress levels I think.

I have to confess I've never been in a slump as bad as this one sounds - but when I am feeling Blah about everything I am reading I retreat to Childhood favourites - out comes the Enid Blyton Famous Five, Laura Ingalls Wilder Little house etc and Frances Hodgson Burnett Secret Garden!
