I've read a few them and out of order. It doesn't really matter, they all stand on their own, though sometimes I can get a bit confused with different future or past people with the same names and titles. That's where the family tress normally help a bit.

Andrea | 2164 comments I've started reading The Better Son by Katherine Johnson. It's set in a place (called Mole Creek) in Tasmania that I've driven past a zillion times, but never explored. I'm beginning to think that next time I might stop for a while...

It was a very funny book. Beautiful story of the dignity afforded an elderly citizen by Alan Bennett and his neighbours. Read that one in about an hour so starting The Pavement Bookworm: A True Story by Philani Dladla
Being sick sucks but I'm getting a lot of reading done.

Did you read this?

I'm having trouble getting into it.

I've read half, and I could have easily have put it down very early.

I've loved most of Philippa Gregory's books. It almost seems like one is a better story teller than the other despite all the details being so similar, but maybe this book makes for one too many stories I've read about Anne Boleyn. I don't think I will read another.

message 2010: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Sharon, Weir is so much more factual; she does not become 'fast and loose with the truth' in order to tell a good story. If you want how things really were, what a person's life was really like, then go for Weir. If you just want a good story with fact and fiction combined, then go for PG. Weir can be more dry, but I believe she is the better historian.

I stopped reading PG when I realized I was quite misinformed about certain people's lives.

So did I Bette, but I agree that she tells good stories. I may still read some more. If only we had infinite time to read All The Books!!!!

marlin1 | 422 comments I have just just finished The Rarest Thing by Deborah O'Brien. I didn’t really write a review for this one, just a comment so didn’t link that but I wanted to draw attention to it because I think a number of readers here would love it. Such a beautiful story.

I find it interesting that it wasn’t widely released. It can only be purchased online through the publisher or through the Kobo website....which is where I got my copy ages ago and finally decided I should actually read it.
Apparently the paper versions have stunning covers.

Sally906 | 87 comments I am still reading Year One (Chronicles of The One, #1) by Nora Roberts Year One by Nora Roberts.

Really enjoying it - even though dark and edgy (well it is the end of the world) the characters are so good. I am struggling with the way it is set out as it is an ARC ebook and so not all the 'pretty' has happened yet - no chapter separation, paragraphs and conversations - so sometimes you've got to stop and get your head together to figure out where you are and who you'e with. But once the print version comes out it should be fine!!

Ryan I just started Ayn Rand's doorstopper Atlas Shrugged. I hope to be finished by 2018.

message 2038: by Krystal (new)

Krystal (krystallee6363) | 2304 comments December goal is to finish everything I have started, so:

Shadowcaster by Cinda Williams Chima
Women Who Run With the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype by Clarissa Pinkola Estés
Best New Horror 23 by Stephen Jones
All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks
Behind the Night Bazaar by Angela Savage

The last three are rubbish so it has taken me aaaaaages to read them. I keep neglecting them in favour of more interesting books!

We've been watching the mini series Sword of Shannara on TV (I think it is a cable one) but is NOT as good as the book - and seems to have started in the second series and bypassed the introductory (Original) first series aka The Sword of Shannara. He then wrote the 'legends of shannara' as a prequel duo to the original and then the 'heritage of Shannara' as a sequels to the original. There are other off shoots as well - the genesis of Shannara that links in the Word and void series. I think there are one or two I've missed - 30 book in all I think

How do I know all this? My husband has every book - I have read the first trilogy but not progressed much further than that.

I am really struggling with it! It is such an obvious LOTR rip off which makes me sad. It was a preview for the tv series that made me want to read it.

Old books are very hit and miss (like any book I guess). It's a pretty crazy premise.

Ace (aceonroam) I'm reading White Tears by Hari Kunzru and loving it. I'm also reading Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See which is hard to read and I need breaks. It goes into a lot of details about foot binding 😔
