Kirsten (kmcripn) Our fridge has the freezer and the fridge side-by-side. There are also some really nice ones with a pull out freezer on the bottom (but those were very expensive). I think, as Amber rightly said, it's the style of the manufacturer.

The last time we bought a dishwasher it was a European manufacturer. We blame that for the fact that the top shelf wasn't designed as well as our old one.

One of my favourites was a design that had a double door fridge at the top and pull out drawers for the freezer. Lovely, roomy and expensive for my purse. Lots of different specs now.

Most fridge -freezers are freeze at the bottom.

But I want to the American freezer for the water and ice or the zip tap instead.

American freezer needs a water supply or the more expensive Zip Tap, but American freezer do not hold as much as a tall fridge freezer. Just not sure. It's space rather than cost!

Then of course decision on under floor heating or radiator, corian work top or granite, or ?

Tp Oven and grill and microwave and a main double oven, or a separate microwave. Washer-dryer, although we prefer separate as always have washing and drying going.

Amtico flooring or tile flooring...

Thoughts always help, that's why I ask here?
Induction or not induction. (My wife has bad eyesite)?

Here is a display of the company making our kitchen, a modern "Italia" white gloss finish.

Stressful.... and sort of fun....

Hopefully done late January or February, when driveway and garden done, less mess coming in the house...

Hopefully designed to do so less work when we retire, and go out and enjoy life more.

Sadly does not help living on an island as well, costs of bringing to the island !

message 8957: by Amber (last edited Dec 03, 2016 12:52PM) (new)

Amber Martingale Be glad you don't live north of the Arctic Circle, Sean. Imagine how much worse the cost would be then.

What makes a kitchen look more expensive are the quality of the appliances. Look at porous levels of worktops and maintenance. Some are more higher maintenance than others. I'm not sure about all singing and dancing taps. The more functions tend to mean more likely to break down. Are you having underfloor heating with tiles in the kitchen, otherwise tiled floors are freezing in the kitchen. Bear in mind dropped items can crack tiles. Look at the capacity levels of fridges and decide what's important to you. We have a fridge with water, ice maker and yes they do need a water supply to them. I do a lot of research when making changes because interior design is an interest of mine. I have the same wooden floor running throughout downstairs including the kitchen because I wanted a seamless look. Same upstairs, only one carpet throughout stairs, landing and bedrooms.

Sean Peters | 10540 comments Mod
Yes, all things we are thinking about.

Tiles mean underfloor heating, we have in the bathroom, and love it.

Amtico flooring better with four cats, and hard wearing and cheaper, but looks good, then with radiator.

Many decisions.

message 8960: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5303 comments Mod
Yep. It's a minefield. Whatever you go for I'm sure will be great as long as you accept nothing stays pristine forever!! If only! I need radiators to dry clothes!! Not everything is tumble dryable. Nightmare in winter months getting clothes dry for six people!

message 8961: by Diane Lynch (new)

Diane Lynch (dianedesmarrstlynch) | 306 comments I do not buy it unless it can go in washer and dryer with very few exception.

Kitchen biggest project in the house. If you go American Sean get freezer draw on bottom. Pulls out so you can get to everything. Adding ice and water dispenser to it-we have our water dispenser inside the frig so we didn't loose frig door storage. Mistake. Water comes out really slow and the frig door is open. Get them in the door so you access with doors closed. Good luck!

message 8962: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale I don't do my laundry as often as I used to. I have no easy access to a laundromat. Closest one has been closed since mid-September. My neighbors and I were under the (mistaken, it turns out) impression that the new owners would reopen on October 1st, but it's the 5th of December and as as of the day after Thanksgiving (American), it's STILL closed! *Yosemite Sam style cursing*

The NEXT closest is next door to my CVS pharmacy in Swansea, IL. ...nearly 4 miles away! In other words, takes me damned close to 1-1/2 (bleeping) damned hours to get there and another 1-1/2 hours to walk home! Plus however much time it takes for me to wash and dry my clothes.

The next closest laundromat after that, is the mini-laundromat in the community center for Williamsburg Apartments (my complex) on their West Belleville campus...which is 6 miles from home!

message 8963: by Diane Lynch (new)

Diane Lynch (dianedesmarrstlynch) | 306 comments That is a horrible laundry situation. Plus lugging everything everywhere .

message 8964: by Paula (new)

Paula Adams (goodreadscompadams57) | 1590 comments I haven't had to lug laundry around since I bought my first house. The first thing I bought was a washer and dryer. I got the dryer used from my sister as she never used it. I can't imagine hanging towels outside. It's like drying yourself with a brillo pad.

message 8965: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Diane: It gets "better." I have to walk with my cart because most of the bus drivers won't let me bring my cart aboard since it no longer stays shut when contents are removed and the cart is folded.

Paula: That's what liquid fabric softener is for.

message 8966: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments Also a quick tumble in the dryer loosens the fabric. I love the feeling of the electric meter slowing down when I hang laundry outside!

message 8967: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Not to mention how good it can smell when hung on a line, right, Perri?

Especially sheets.

message 8969: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments Right you both are!

message 8970: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale IF you 're allowed to have a line. I'm not, but if I were, that would sure as hell solve half my laundry problem!

message 8971: by Diane Lynch (new)

Diane Lynch (dianedesmarrstlynch) | 306 comments They have those fold up drying towers. I've hung an amazing amount of stuff in one. In bathroom. Or whereever

message 8972: by Amber (last edited Dec 06, 2016 09:50AM) (new)

Amber Martingale They might work. How much are they?

message 8973: by Sean, Moderator (new)

Sean Peters | 10540 comments Mod
Great in the summer, when you can hang all the washing outside.

I always use fabric softener, but test show it is not good for towels, but I like the fresh smell.

message 8974: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Or blue jeans, Sean.

message 8975: by Diane Lynch (new)

Diane Lynch (dianedesmarrstlynch) | 306 comments Everything gets washed and dried together with fabric softener. Everything is fine.

Only 4 so far (See last picture above), but I'll be back, the fair is held until 19 DEC. The 4 books has cost me 11 USD only.

Lorrea(WhatChaReadin'?) wrote: "Looks like a lot of fun!!"

I couldn't agree more. It's held annually in Malaysia and I've been attending it since 2013. 95 % of the books I've bought are from this fair.

You can say that again.

Paula Adams (goodreadscompadams57) | 1590 comments I have something great to share. I am going to meet my twin granddaughters today for the first time. They turned 2 two days ago. I also haven't seen Maddie who is now 5 since Aug of 2014. I do so hope that she remembers me. My daughter inlaw doesn't like me for some reason and told me I wasn't allowed to have anything to do with them. My son sent me an email last night inviting me over to visit with conditions. I can live with that. My daughter inlaw won't be there. Even better. I am so nervous that I hardly slept last night.

Paula,

I'm so happy for you. It's sad when a person has so much negativity in them to hold your grandchildren from you. The children are innocent and should be able to see their grandmother. I hope you had a great visit and are able to do it more often.

Greg Lake (from Emerson, Lake and Palmer)

Has died from cancer.

This week we do celebrate (9th December)

Kirk Douglas reaching 100 years old.

Happy to reach my target of 60 books this year, especially as so busy the last few months with the overtime.

Happy birthday to Sound of Music star

Christopher Plummer who is 87 years old, and has four films coming out this year and next year.

And the great comic actor

Dick Van Dyke an amazing 91 years old.
