Kirsten (kmcripn) Happy National Disc Golf Day!

Requiring less equipment than traditional golf, disc golf shares the common goal of reaching each target with the fewest number of strokes, or to put it more accurately, throws.

Disc golf has been played since the late 1960s and became a formalized sport in the 1970s. In the beginning, targets were nothing more than tree trunks or wooden posts cemented into the ground. As the game progressed, trees and posts were replaced with metal baskets with chains, with the chains helping to catch the discs. Those metal baskets, originally called a “Disc Golf Pole Hole”, are now the modern day targets with dozens of design variations being used with the same general idea and technical specifications in mind.

The PDGA Disc Golf Course Directory (http://www.pdga.com/course-directory) is a great resource to locate courses in your area.

The first patent (#4,039,189) was issued on a chain catching device to “Steady” Ed Headrick on August 12th, 1977 which changed the future of the sport. It is now a standard for course design.

Kirsten (kmcripn) Happy National Jamaican Patty Day!

A Jamaican patty is defined as a “turnover style pastry” which can have a variety of fillings such as seasoned ground beef, chicken, seafood or vegetables. The crust is ideally flaky in texture, half-moon in shape, and the fillings are usually spicy, but milder varieties are available for the faint of heart. It is said that the Jamaican Patty as we know it today, was born from the English Cornish Pastry, a similar concoction that came to Jamaica during the colonial days. It also bears a resemblance to the Spanish empanada.

The patty has become a staple among Jamaicans, acting as a quick “grab-n-go” or “meal-on-the-run” type of snack. A typical person eats a patty or two for lunch while in school or at work. It serves well as a hot & nutritious snack and when paired with a coco-bread it becomes a belly-filling & satisfying meal in itself.

Kirsten (kmcripn) More about the root beer float...

Also known as the “Black Cow,” the root beer float got its start in Colorado in a mining camp. Frank J. Wisner of Cripple Creek, Colorado, gets the credit for inventing the “Black Cow” way back in August of 1893.

Kirsten (kmcripn) Happy National IPA Day!

The first known use of beer, “India pale ale”, IPA, was in Sydney, Australia 1829

IPA is consistently the top selling craft beer style in America, representing around 18.4% of total craft beer sales.

Double IPAs (also referred to as Imperial IPAs) are a stronger, very hoppy variant of IPAs that typically have alcohol content above 7.5% by volume

American-style IPA is generally drier and uses American hops to give an intense hop profile with more floral, citrusy, piney, or tropical characteristics.

English-style IPA is generally maltier flavored brew that uses English hops and yeasts, giving a more fruity and herbal aroma with a lower ABV than American IPAs.

Kirsten (kmcripn) National Frozen Custard Day

Frozen custard is a type of frozen dessert that was invented by ice cream vendors Elton and Archie Kohr from Coney Island, New-York.
Frozen custard is similar to ice cream, but it contains egg yolks in addition to cream and sugar. Adding egg yolks allows to create a smoother texture and help the dessert stay cold longer. Frozen custard was invented in 1919 but it had been unknown to the wide public until 1933.
A frozen custard stand at the World's Fair in Chicago helped spread the dessert's popularity across the United States. Frozen custard is especially popular in Wisconsin (Milwaukee is even referred to as the unofficial frozen custard capital of the world) and Ohio.
According to the Food and Drug Administration requirements, frozen custard must contain at least 1.4% egg yolk solids and 10% milkfat. True frozen custard is a very dense dessert with a smooth consistency and a thick, creamy texture. It is typically prepared right at frozen custard stands, rather than stored. Most stands offer three flavors per day: vanilla, chocolate, and “flavor of the day”.
Custard bases may also be used for quiches and other savory foods.
Depending on how much egg or thickener is used, custard may vary in consistency from a thin pouring sauce (crème anglaise), to a thick pastry cream used to fill éclairs.
Custard is a variety of culinary preparations based on a cooked mixture of milk or cream and egg yolk.
The most common custards are used as desserts or dessert sauces and typically include sugar and vanilla.
Sometimes flour, corn starch, or gelatin is added as in pastry cream or creme patissiere.

If you look at historical candidates, Trump has done many things that will have destroyed his candidacy before now. I'm not holding my breath. The only that WILL stop him - guaranteed - is if everyone actually votes.

Look at what he has recently done. He has practically called for 2nd Amendment supporters to not only kill her, but kill any judges appointed by her. Shouldn't he be investigated by the Secret Service for that?

Also, he wants to put conditions on the debates...

Perot was running as an independent. Trump is running as a Republican. Big difference!

Not everyone's gonna vote because a lot of them feel as I do that while they have no right to bitch about the government and expect our bitching to get anything done towards changing the government if we DON'T vote, we also believe that even if we DO vote, we STILL have no right to bitch about our government and expect our bitching get anything done towards political change because the politicians only pay attention to the industries who have them in their pockets! I agree - and fear - that many people will stay home. They really need to realize that sometimes they don't need to vote FOR someone, but to vote AGAINST someone.

message 8550: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale You're also supporting human rights violations when you use electronic books, Horn. Human lives cannot be be replaced by planting a seed in the ground like a tree can.

The problem with that, Kirsten, " They really need to realize that sometimes they don't need to vote FOR someone, but to vote AGAINST someone," is that they'll put someone like "Mickey Mouse" or "Darth Vader" in the write-in line and thereby causing their ballot to be THROWN OUT AND NOT COUNTED AT ALL.
