I know the feeling. I've had a tough week so far with my medical problems. I read a few pages and zonk out.

58 years old tomorrow !

Do not like getting older.

But want to retire...LOL

Guess I cannot have it both ways.

This year for our birthdays, my wife next week.

Having a new kitchen..... light silver gloss, contempory look.

Also having a new driveway, front garden and back garden done.

Get ready for the retirement.

House being painted next week, all indoors over the next 3-4 weeks.

We haven both worked hard this last two years, to clear our mortgage December 2015. This year saved up to do lots of main jobs before we retire, and also to make our life easier.

Paula Adams (goodreadscompadams57) | 1590 comments I just turned a year older than you. We are retiring on April 1st. I should say my husband is as I don't work. We go to Florida to work on the house we bought there to retire. Working on getting quotes on an inground swimming pool that will be inclosed so we can use it year long.

Jean | 2387 comments Happy belated birthday, Sean. What's retirement age in the UK? And what's voting age? And drinking age? (Had to get all the important ones in there!)

message 8639: by Cosmos (new)

Cosmos | 276 comments I wish my parents would stop hogging the computer!!!

Retirement here in Jersey is different from the UK.

Reality and fact I should retire 66 years and 6 months.

(Goes on your birthdate)

Drinking and voting I think is 18 years old.

Don't drink or vote !

message 8641: by Cosmos (new)

Cosmos | 276 comments I never vote. Why bother? Nothing ever changes.

message 8642: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 2434 comments Cosmos wrote: "I never vote. Why bother? Nothing ever changes."

You're too young to be so cynical, Cosmos! :-)

I vote because there are very few ways I have any influence in politics. Win or lose, I had my say.

message 8643: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5303 comments Mod
I second that, Brenda. Women died for the right to vote. My girls feel very strongly about voting!

message 8644: by Cosmos (new)

Cosmos | 276 comments I'm not cynical. I'm a realist. They make all these big promises just to get elected, but they don't keep them. Not where I live anyway. I suppose I am rather jaded with the whole system, but the proof is in the pudding. I just hope to God that Trump doesn't get elected. Then we're in huge trouble.

message 8645: by Cosmos (new)

Cosmos | 276 comments Well said, Tim!

message 8646: by Jean (new)

Jean | 2387 comments None of the above! Yes! The amount of money spent on political campaigns in the US is obscene, and the average American knows very little about the candidates. It's a popularity contest, or perhaps a choice between two candidates one would rather not vote for at all..but if one votes for a third candidate, it feels like a default vote for the one you hate to elect. Still, I vote because as Brenda said, it lets me have my say.
NBC did a story about selfies being banned in the voting booth. Did others see that? Can someone explain why that might be constued as fraud?

Lorrea - WhatChaReadin'? (whatchatreadin) I like to vote more for my local officials as opposed to national ones. These are the people who are going to influence our leaders. And who will make an immediate impact on my community.

message 8648: by Cosmos (new)

Cosmos | 276 comments Just a sidetrack here: I don't like the banning of anything! It takes away our right to choose as citizens. Although I would like to 'ban' Donald Trump.

message 8649: by Amber (last edited Sep 14, 2016 09:14AM) (new)

Amber Martingale Make attendance at election polls mandatory like they do in Australia. Maybe not everyone will vote but they'll be there.

I think they have 80% of the eligible voters casting votes since attendance is mandatory.

Or make it easier to cast an absentee ballot. That's how I vote.

message 8650: by HornFan2 (new)

HornFan2 (hornfan2) | 235 comments We're up sheeeeezoought's creek here in the States, regardless who wins but at least by voting you can make the trip a little easier for yourself and it be pretty dumb not to vote in November.
