Seasons salutations to all you lovely people on here. Thanks for all the chatting, whether heated or otherwise!! ;-) It's never dull around here! Many of you have become good friends of mine and quite often have my back. Much appreciated. This group wouldn't be the fabulous group it is without you so before I gush anymore...... hugs all round and I'll see you all on the other side.

Merry Christmas to each and every single one of you and a huge, massive THANK YOU!!

Janet xx

Tracing your ancestors can be fun, as long as they are quite, quite dead. Stars Elizabeth Mansfield and Peter Dahlsen.

My sister is doing remarkably well after losing her husband just a month ago. My niece and best friend both got engaged today. Wow, best Christmas in a while.

Sorry that I've not been chatting lately, but we've had a few too many family emergencies that I've been dealing with. Will be posting more regularly after the New Year.

Leon Uris is one of those famous authors I have certainly heard of but have never read. Hope you enjoy this novel. Hope you will write snd share a review.

Noticed, sadly that Kimberley has disappeared for the last few months and left the group I think left goodreads as well, not sure, such a shame a regular on here, maybe busy with her young children.

Hope she is okay.

message 7417: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 2434 comments Another regular sadly missing is Stefanie. She wanted to do a buddy read with me in December, but she hasn't replied to my PMs and I haven't seen any activity in the group by her. Like you said, Sean, I hope she's OK.

Amber Martingale No gifts for Christmas from anyone in the family.

message 7419: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Speaking of Leon Uris, my dad made me read the book Battle Cry a few years back. Said it was the only novel he ever read more than once and the only one that made him cry.

It seem I miss my dad most when it comes to books. He was always giving me books to read.

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) | 181 comments Pat, I will. I loved Exodus by him. If I could have, I'd have given 10 Stars to the novel.

Last month my brother in law died suddenly. We've had other family emergencies as well these past few months. Hopefully the bad stuff is behind us and 2016 will be a good year. So far, the good has begun - my niece and my best friend 0f 52 years both got engaged Christmas morning :)

Now y'all know why I've been missing lately.

Kirsten, I loved that book too. Uris was in the Navy as was my dad in WWII. When I read it, Dad finally fessed up to what he had seen during the War. He said Uris got it right. Dad will be 90 in a couple of months. Sorry for your loss. My mom was the big reader (besides me) in our family. Her recommendations were spot on - How I do miss her. She's been gone 9 years now, and I still find myself thinking, "I need to tell mom about this book."

message 7423: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) My dad was in the AF but was too young for the big one. He was actually born in 1941 on the exact day that Operation Barbarossa began. He was a big history nut.

My mom had an uncle that was involved in the Pacific "island-hopping" campaign and would never talk about it when he came home.

My grandfather was in the USN and painted ships during the war. My other grandfather was ruled exempt since he was a baker.

Groovy Lee Anne, I'm sorry for your lost, and wish you all the best.

Amber, although I don't celebrate Christmas, I don't understand a family that would do that. It must have hurt you and I'm sorry. I grew up in a family of PSYCHOS, and I mean literally, but when I did celebrate that holiday, they gave me presents--it's so funny now because, even though they put me through a lot during the year, at the end, I got presents--LOL!! That's so sad, and yet I can't help laughing at that:)

Anyway, hang in there, Amber...

Bakers were exempt?

Groovy/Diane Lynch/Pat/Sue: On mom's side of the family gift giving is usually restricted to immediate family only, so since I'm basically a niece or a cousin, I don't qualify. On Dad's side of the family, the relatives are too scattered to mail gifts to me. I DO get a Christmas check from my Dad's aunt Betty...and three weeks later I get another check for my birthday. The Christmas check USUALLY includes a four page newsletter update on the doing's on Dad's side of the family. Not this year, though. G-aunt Betty recently had a heart attack at 91 years of age and she's currently in physical therapy for it so instead of the usual letter, I got a card, a note and the check.

My cousin Suzy's son Dillon died on the 21st of a sudden heart attack and seizure...he was between 28 and 29 years old. So that also dampens Mom's side of the family this year.

Groovy Lee Amber, I'm so sorry to hear about your cousin's son. No one should have to die so young. And I hope your G-aunt Betty does well in therapy.

I would just like to say that although 2016 won't be any better than 2015 as far as the world is concerned, I wish everyone here on this forum all the best personally. I hope you have peace and the strength to push forward. All the best to all of you--until next year:)!!!
