Groovy Lee Celine Dion's husband passed. Also Alan Rickman from the Harry Potter movies. I really loved his voice. He played villains with such class.

Yes, Groovy. As they both were born outside of Montreal,Quebec, like myself, I assume the funeral will be held there. So sad. I am sure she will take it hard. A real love story!

RIP

Lorrea - WhatChaReadin'? (whatchatreadin) So this is my first venture on to GoodReads all year. I have been in a reading slump since Thanksgiving and I'm not sure how to get out of it. I hope you all are having a great year thus far and hopefully I will get back to reading very soon.

message 7607: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Thanks, Sean...

Dan Haggerty, Grizzly, who I thought died years ago, has also passed....

Okay, I'm just going to say it. It's been touched on a few times here, but I would just like to ask: how many of you would like it if your husband left you for his young protégé he's been waiting to come of age so he could be with her?

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he was good to Celine, and I'm sorry she lost him, but I don't think his first wife would call it a love story. I know I wouldn't like it if that happened to me--just saying.

I side with you Groovy. I loveCeline Dion's work. I do not care who you are. Single women stay away from married men. Married men should not be hunting either. End of story. This comes from someone married for 26 years to the same man with a 2 year divorce about midway. Younger "girl." How wonderful for a mans ego. True love never dies and it didn't. I'm still with my best friend.

Sorry to hear Lorrea. I think we have all experienced a reading slump. Life just gets in the way. For me, if I read something short for awhile, like novellas, that gets me going again.

Ter'e Crow Lindsay (terecrow) | 798 comments Lorrea,
Sometime, it's the books that are the lifesavers!!!
I would have gone stark raving mad, this past year, had it not been for my books.
Good luck............you'll get your mojo back.

Sadly had flooding in our hallway upstairs, came back from tennis, to find puddles of water, from a faulty valve.

Had to call a plumber out at 10.00 pm last night.

And lost the tennis doubles as well.

message 7616: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee You'll get 'em next time, Sean. But we know the plumber won with that high bill for having to come out:)

message 7617: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale At least you didn't loose your home, Sean.

Lorrea - WhatChaReadin'? (whatchatreadin) I think it's me thats in the slump. Cant focus on much. Need a vaca to reinvigorate myself.

Sean sorry about the water and the tennis match. Puddles inside are never good!!

Not just you Lorrea. I haven't read in over a week. Just can't sum up the enthusiasm at the moment. Happens to us all.

message 7620: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale For me, it's not a matter of enthusiasm. I simply can't afford to do anything BUT read for entertainment.

Puddles have gone, drying out, wood floors not lifted, so hopefully good.

Although a little damage to kitchen ceiling, and need a new radiator.

message 7622: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Oh-oh. Hope the ceiling doesn't get any more damage to it, Sean. And sorry to hear you need a new radiator.

OMG… These militants are no better than terrorists. I have, unfortunately, met a couple like them, who share their disregard for anyone but themselves. They are stealing public [which belongs to us all] land for themselves alone and desecrating nature and native American cultural sites.

message 7626: by Groovy (last edited Jan 22, 2016 02:43PM) (new)

Groovy Lee Sean, I know how frustrating that can be. At least you won't have to replace your floors. One day at a time and you'll get through it. By the time spring hits, it'll be an old problem:)

I'm stuck in 4-6" of snow. That's rare for the South in the US. The last time this happened, it was 1966. I'm just going to enjoy.

Marilee, I know, right? They make themselves out to be so much better than everybody else, and yet, they take over land that doesn't belong to them, and steal Native American artifacts. It just shows that they have no respect for other cultures:(

Thanks for the article, Amber...

message 7627: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Like the Native Americans have said, if they'd done it they'd be dead by now!

It just pisses me off. Look at what happened when unarmed African Americans demonstrated in the streets of Ferguson!

Now, we have armed white guys taking over federal property and no one does anything?

In the end, I think it's because of Ruby Ridge and Waco. If these guys had taken over Oregon State property? I think they'd have been dealt with. IMHO.

message 7628: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Thank you, Kirsten! If Native Americans, African Americans, Latinos--any other culture but white conservative had done this, someone would have a bullet in their head by now, and it would be over--IMHO though factual and true...

message 7635: by Jean (new)

Jean | 2387 comments Emperor Titas, Sir! Sir Titas! Congratulations, indeed!

"Funny," isn't it, that situation out west? The gun-totin' white men who think that human beings of any minority group - people of color, females, those with different sexual orientations and identities, those who come to our country to escape terror (not cause it) those who do not believe in the same religion they claim to follow - are a threat to our way of life, our prosperity, and our freedom. Yet all they do is harrass, bully, and take. And too many folks agree with them or simply choose to look the other way. I'm glad to see you guys - Kirsten, Groovy, Marilee, Titas - see it as terror too. This is sort of getting too serious for this thread, perhaps, so I won't go on any more. 'Nuf said.

Thanks, Amber...
Congratulations, Titas, or shall I say, Sir Titas!

Right on, Jean! I also agree that this is getting serious on a cheery forum, so I'll just end it by saying, too many people choose to look away, but I'm so proud of those who are not afraid or indifferent to raise their voices!! You know who you are:)

Keep sharing with him, Aymen:)

URGENT QUESTION PLEASE MEMBERS.

Are any of you a Goodreads librarian? Or maybe an author can answer this.

Basically an author friend wants to change a bookcover pic on the site here but doesn't know how to go about it. Can anyone help please?
