Sandysbookaday (taking a step back for a while) (sandyj21) | 5101 comments Sean, I will share with you (and all my other GR friends) my mother's recipe for cough medicine - and yes, it does work!

Thinly slice 1 red onion.
Thinly slice 6-8 cloves garlic.
Place in bottom of glass jar.
Top with 1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup brown sugar.
Screw lid on jar and leave overnight (DO NOT refrigerate).
Take 1 tbsp. as required.

I was very sick all winter last year with bronchopnuemonia (I had lost the recipe in one of my moves), but have not been sick at all this winter. Everytime I start to get a tickle in my throat or start to cough I make up a batch.

Hope you are soon feeling better 8:D

Thanks all.

I am resting, with difficulty, as I have an active mind.

Try to rest at night, but then I cough more, then in the morning I feel so tired.

But at home resting, frustrated not playing for Jersey this weekend, but nothing I can do.

Now, after waiting 3 more months and thinking we had a clean slate to work with.......another problem with the damn (sorry Sean) deed in lieu again.
We had been told there would be a 9/30 closing (approx)........and here we are again.........with a huge prob staring us in the face.

We are packed up, ready to move...........and now there is another wrinkle.
Lord, how far does one go before throwing in the towel???????
Hubs and I are soooooooo depressed. Trying to figure out what to do. We have til noon........and we should hear the bottom line by 12:00 EST.

That's why I have been such a lousy book pal these past 6 mos. my apologies........

You can use onions, honey and mustard as an ancient Egyptian hot plaster for back pain. Found that out when I was at PanHistoria doing RP as a foreign ambassador to Egypt during the time of Ramses II (The Great).

My family had a similar recipe, to which we would add:
freshly brewed black tea, beef or chicken broth (whichever one we had more of) and a couple dashes hot sauce (Tabasco brand being the #1 choice.

Oh yeah, you had to pinch your nose shut and knock it back all at once.

message 6726: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Yep, especially since the only time people usually die in the making of a REAL book is if they screw up safety procedures somewhere along the way while some one working in the African mines that supply the minerals used to make the E books can be ARBITRARILY slaughtered for any reason or for no reason at all by the warlord who OWNS the mine!

message 6727: by Groovy (last edited Sep 23, 2015 08:27PM) (new)

Groovy Lee Sean, it seems you and I have been suffering from the same ailment. My bronchitis broke out the first week of august and I've been coughing my lungs, and ribs out, and wheezing ever since. I sound like a man. I'm on the last leg of it, thank goodness.

Hope you get better. Keep us posted.

message 6730: by Sean, Moderator (new)

Sean Peters | 10541 comments Mod
Although a little better, shocked at how tired I am, the coughing (as you will know Groovy) are so deep and painful it hurts your chest and back, such a dry sore throat, breathing bad energy awful.

Very frustrating, not slept all night for nearly two weeks, but not much I can do, and sadly passed to my wife who is now off as well, and coughing all night.

So we take it in turns to wake each other up with coughing !

Groovy yes sounds like the same as me.

Laryngitis, Bronchitis and pneumonia.

I do sound like a moaning man ! I am !

I hate it frustrating when you are so active.

message 6731: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Ouch. Sorry I underestimated your problems, Sean. Makes my canker sore in my mouth from a dental extraction on the 11th sound like a walk in the park.

Hope you get better Groovy

Amber dentist I hate ! Never a walk in the park !

message 6733: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Thanks, Ter'e. The coughs are nearly gone and I can go out at night again--yaay!!!

If I'm not mistaking, pneumonia is accompanied by severe headaches and a high fever. Also, I didn't know bronchitis was contagious. It's not supposed to be, right?

Anyway, thanks, Sean. Don't laugh, but I honestly thought I had lung cancer. I'm sorry to hear your wife is ailing now, too. Hope she's not mad at you. Take care of each other:)

Groovy Lee Just saw a PBS documentary on Westminster (I'm also a history buff) Very, very interesting: Like the 6'4" boxer they named Big Ben after--wow. And they showed the suffragette who jumped in front of one of the Royals racing horses and was killed so women could get the right to vote--**eyes wide**

It made me wonder how much different England would be today had King Edward not given up the throne to marry Wallace Simpson. But I'm just an American, what do I know...

Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well. Sean, I hope you and your wife are getting better. I know it's hard and you have a ways to go before getting completely healthy again. (I'm on month two) But hang in there.

Heather Burnside (goodreadscomheather_burnside) | 385 comments Hi everyone, I hope you all had a good weekend and I hope you are feeling a bit better Sean.

We drove to York and back from Manchester yesterday, which is about 1 1/2 to 2 hours each way depending on the traffic as my daughter started university. It was a difficult day as she is our youngest and somehow seemed too young to go out into the big wide world.

Although I was dreading the day, I was determined to be strong as I didn't want to upset her. However, I wasn't expecting her to burst into tears when we left her outside her halls of residence. It was awful - much harder than with my son as he's so much more confident and has no difficulty finding new friends. My daughter, on the other hand, is shy.

However, she seems to have hit it off with three other girls in her apartment already and we're waiting for her to ring us tonight with an update. From her texts she sounds much happier than when we left her yesterday so fingers crossed that she'll be OK. :)
