So what happened to Andrew Vachss? When Flood hit the streets it was edgy and tense and embodied the (im)perfect anti-hero in Burke. The writing was taut and gritty.
Today, we have his Aftershock series, which is full of tired clichés, poor prose, 2D characters, and a host of other issues.
Has Vachss, like others before him, started to mail it in for the paycheck?

LOL.This piece still makes me cry. It was in heavy rotation after Leonard Nimoy died: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psbY8...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVNbi... makes me want to read but I'm not sure what.Has anything on your musical playlists inspired you to read and if so, what did it inspire you to read?
Not a good day for me and computers. Yesterday my laptop fell off the bed.I didn't turn it back on until this afternoon. There is now a big, multicolored stripe across the middle of the screen. I can still log on and access my files, but it is quite difficult to read anything. I guess I will be off to the Apple Store to see if it can be repaired.I was not happy with the last experience because the guy who got fixed my problem somehow managed to erase all of my files and could not restore them. Now I've just spent at least 30 minutes trying to get my Zagg keyboard to work again with my iPad.I haven't used it for a really long time, but I hate typing on the iPad, so I thought I'd try the keyboard again. What a pain. Lots of trial and error turning the Bluetooth on and off and pairing the devices....It finally worked! Now if my laptop can be repaired, I will be VERY happy!
Oh, Jean I am so sorry you had such a trying day!I was lucky when I installed Win10 on 2 desktops here at home, we didn't have any trouble.I don't care about the TV...but if anything is wrong with my computer or Kindle, I just want to crawl into the bed, until I can get it fixed.I am so glad I run a weekly backup through "My Book Live", that runs automatically, and should I have a problem, I have a restore point to go back to, so that I don't lose anything. I only like/buy Apple and HP products.I hope your laptop can be repaired, but even in the worst situation, all the computer laptops are on sale with the students going back to University. I wish you luck Jean!Sue
Oh Jean, what a pain! Know what you are going through...my hard drive crashed a couple of weeks ago, the back-up programme I had been using hadn't been working (and I was unaware). So have had to wait 2 weeks while my IT guy has recovered what he could of my files (most of them thank goodness) and restored them and given me a reliable backup system. I would lend Andy to you if I could.....Hope it is all resolved soon. 8:D
Sorry for the computer trouble Jean. I have had so many of those buggers crash, both on the floor and inside the computer!! They should give us warnings before they go.
Feel for you Jean. My Mac died on me two years back, taking with it all my notes for future writing projects and the work in progress at the time. Fortunately, three days later it came to life on its own, allowing me to retrieve those files. It was a miserable three days, and it hasn't worked since. I now back up in three separate places.

I hate anything to do with technology - I'm one of those people who gets really exasperated and shouts at the screen.

"I do not believe in the creed professed by the Jewish Church, by the Roman Church, by the Greek Church, by the Turkish Church, by the Protestant Church, nor by any Church that I know of. My own mind is my own Church. Each of those churches accuse the other of unbelief; and for my own part, I disbelieve them all."- Thomas PaineSomething to think about, isn't it?
Susan Fleet, a member/author for a long time, has agreed to do The Hot Seat.

I've been 'cleaning' on here so things may look slightly different.
Hope you're all enjoying your weekend.

Yes very tidy, thanks Janet.
Yesterday played tennis (had not played for two weeks with bad weather), today my legs are killing me, sadly that what happens when you get older.
If I keep playing, walking, running it is hard, but keeps me fit, but it is hard work keeping fit as well!
Today Sunday gardening, and so hot and humid !!

This afternoon, sat down and watched a film on Netflix
Homefront with Jason Stratham, a good thriller, action packed.

Hi Sean,
My husband loves watching movies by Jason Stratham, but he has not seen Homefront. I will check and see if it is listed on Amazon to buy. When he watches movies...I read. Win Win.
Sue
Suprisingly written back Sylvester Stallone, and produces by him.
A great action film with also Kate Bosworth and Winona Ryder.
Last week I watched another of his films in
Safe, and his recent films I have watched of his are
The Expendables 3
Killer Elite
The Mechanic(playing Charles Bronson role)
he may not win an Oscar, but always action packed.
He also turned up at the end of the action packed film
Fast and Furious 6

Yes, you have guessed, going back to work!!

Spent four hours making packs of colours/beads for my wife, ready to make some larrietts.
Ready for the USA Open starting shortly.

Well, I'm currently listening to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKgLE...This is my favorite of the Brandenburgs... .
Kids are back to school today. This year finally, all three are in school. Back to scheduled days and going to bed early and more time for myself!!
I second that! I couldn't wait for school to start this year. Six hours of peace and quiet before the boy comes back home. Next summer he is going to camp.
School is the universe's way of making sure parents can recover their sanity before the next school holiday.
Want to share some good news with you all! I had taken TOEFL test on 22nd August. Just viewed the result - 104 out of 120!I am so freaking' happy!

Well done, Titas. Is the one on the left a character from Sponge Bob? My daughter used to love that. In fact, I think she still has a Sponge Bob soft toy, and she's 18 now (but don't tell her I told you - haha).
Amber wrote: "Yeah, Heather, that's Patrick from Spongebob."Patrick, that's it. I couldn't think of his name. :)
I don't like when people on GR are being dishonest and creating fake profiles. This sort of activity has been brought to my attention. If I come across this, fake profiles will be booted out. Why anyone would want to set up numerous accounts and pretend to be various people is beyond me?? But members joining here who are claiming to be someone they're not - OUT....
I didn't know you could have more than one account. Wow!I've had a somewhat forced hiatus from Goodreads due to my 12 week old kitten Boots. Every time I logged onto my laptop Boots was ready to play on the keyboard.
See?
Now that he's lost interest in my laptop, I'm back. Missed everyone :)
