I understand what you are saying Aymen. Sometimes the escape of a novel is better than dealing with the reality of our lives. This summer, I have been doing the same thing because it is good to be out and doing things. During our winter, I have plenty of time to stay in the house and read.

message 6402: by Aymen (new)

Aymen Ben cheikh Yes You are right Pat in the winter it s easier, and sometimes i read a lot when i m with family, so i think maybe we should be talking instead, it s the same problem that people have with smart phones.

message 6403: by Perri (last edited Jul 29, 2015 11:34AM) (new)

Perri | -43 comments That's funny, because I tend to read more in the summer with the long bright days. But I can see reading over a lifetime ebbs and flows. I didn't read much when I had young children-adult books anyway. You're a wise young man, Aymen, I know you'll figure out the right balance :)

message 6404: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Perri, please keep in mind that Aymen's "right balance" between life and reading might not be the same as MY "right balance" or even YOUR "right balance."

I tend to read more the less money I have available for things like the $5 matinees at the Lincoln Theater in downtown Belleville.

message 6405: by Aymen (new)

Aymen Ben cheikh Thank you Perri, but sometimes i know things that i should do, but i keep living the same way, maybe it s just who i am, i don't know. i ll try to keep the balance but when i look deeply into this world i feel the urge to move into other worlds through reading. And Amber sometimes i buy books when i need to buy other stuff like new clothes, or go out, i need to have this under control.

message 6406: by Dana (new)

Dana ****Reads Alot**** | 78 comments Laymen I understand you completely on the smart phones. they have taken over times meant for family. Its awful to go out to dinner and people can't even put their phone away for that. its sad. I would rather read a book than be with my relatives if you knew them you would understand. you will find your balance.

message 6407: by Aymen (new)

Aymen Ben cheikh I understand Dana books always makes us feel better, most of people don t

Hey all! Hope everyone is having a good weekend. I'm having a sad mummy moment.
My 6 year old twin boys are going to stay with their Auntie and Uncle for a whole week... everyone says I should look forward to time by myself.. I am.. but I'm not.
I can't help worrying like mad.... please someone tell me this worrying calms down as they get older!!? :((
I know it might sound over the top but this is the longest I've ever been apart from them... :-\

My partner tells me to stop worrying and get a grip!! Sorry for the miserable post... but I am feeling miserable and needed to share with my GoodRead friends...

Suffice to say, I don't ever feel judged on here...

On a better note, I indulged and downloaded a load of books to make me feel better! :)))

Kimberley. You know I have four. Well, my parents live about an hour away from me and I've been sending them to my parents since they were little kids. My girls a few years ago went to India with my mum. I've never really felt bad separation anxiety because wanted them to not be clingy but more independent. They find it odd when going on residential trips why 11 12 year olds are crying their eyes out because they're away from home a night or two. I love my kids more than anything else on this planet but I LOVE that they have this independent streak in them. I wouldn't want it any other way. In fact Natasha, my 12 yr old is planning to stay with them for a couple of weeks in the next few days.

message 6416: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 2434 comments Kim, I can feel your worry in that post. My suggestion is to think like a 6 year old. They'll miss you, of course, but maybe they'll have a blast. They'll find out how another household has different rules, different food, different activities. Think of it as an educational opportunity for them, a new experience, part of growing up.

I would also suggest you talk to the auntie and/or uncle to see what plans they have for your children. That might allay your fears.

message 6417: by [deleted user] (new)

Thank you Brenda and Janet!
You've both made me think in a different light , thank you for your suggestions Brenda, I will try it.
Janet - I know I exactly where you are coming from. It's nice to hear from other parents and their own experiences.
The main thing is my boys are VERY excited to go and spend some time with their Auntie and Uncle, I need to think like them!

Parenting is one huge learning curb ! :)

Heck yeah. The one guarantee is that they definitely don't come with instructions or a returns policy!! Hehe! Brenda is right, they probably will have a blast, build some lovely memories and you get some chillout time.

message 6419: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Hey, I'm not getting notifications!! What did I miss? Lots to read. I am sitting out on our wonderful deck with the cats enjoying our very nice day (until the storms hit, of course).

Lorrea - WhatChaReadin'? (whatchatreadin) Kimberly, whenever our kids are away, we have them call us at night before bed. It's good to hear about what they are doing. The first night they are good about it and the rest of the time they are either too tired or having too much fun. So maybe in 5 days we hear from them 2-3 times.

You know they are with people you trust and that will treat them as good as you do.

message 6421: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Mccall hello hope you all had a good week / weekend. sorry I wasn't around much was busy with work and too tired at night to do much.

Kimberly the kids will be fine however you are their mother you are going to worry doesn't matter what age they are - but you know they will be fine you wouldn't have let them go if you didn't know/trust the people they were staying with and at the end of the day if you need to vent that's what we here for :)

I may not have been on here much but still been doing my fitness stuff - good couple of PBs through the week especially on overhead squats - up to 32.5Kg and today in my pt session I not only managed 52Kg for bench press but also kicked 10 seconds off my time for a 600m row :)

Buster was at the beach yesterday for his Saturday morning walk / run but we only did 2 miles instead of usual 2.5

short week this week I have Monday and Friday off work woohoo

message 6422: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale I wish I had some Tylenol. Or Vicodin. Got a headache, a sciatica flare-up AND a flare up of pain from my Friday morning dental surgery that got aggravated by having a single grain of brown rice stuck in the socket for over 3 hours on Saturday. An ER doc needed a pair of surgical tweezers to pull the rice grain out in less than a minute after I got seen. And I was only there for about 1 hour from start to finish.

Of course, laughing my ass off over this song, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCgx8..., makes me me feel just a LITTLE better.

Good news just confirmed

Jericho the lion is alive and roaming his park habitat in Zimbabwe, the Oxford University researcher tracking the lion confirmed on Sunday.

Brent Stapelkamp dismissed reports that the lion had been killed, saying a GPS device on Jericho didn't suggest anything out of the ordinary. Furthermore, the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force, which told CNN and other media that poachers killed Jericho, retracted its statements on Sunday.

The head of the conservation task force, Johnny Rodrigues, said in a new statement that the erroneous information was the result of mistaken identity. Rodrigues said that another lion had been killed, something that CNN cannot immediately verify.

As proof of life, Oxford University tweeted a photo of Jericho, taken by Stapelkamp early Sunday morning.

Sounds like you need a pre-read rating system.

I suggest reading the first paragraph or page and rating out of ten. Perhaps add a point or two for a trusted recommendation or other personal criteria. Anything below 5 shelve it as to be considered if you runout of books to read (otherwise known as trash)

message 6439: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments OK, David. Now I need a formula to tell me how many years it will take to assign points to my 2353 books. Then I will be all set!

message 6440: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 1127 comments Based on ten minutes per book, it'll take you 8 x 12 hour days.
