(I thought it was only fitting that I fulfilled this task with a book about sex. Terrible read though; a coworker gave it to me for graduation years ago and I finally got around to reading it. Wish I hadn't, but I'll take the points as a consolation!)

It might not be the biggest change in name, but this one was specially created to fool people: anticipating that the target audience of young boys might not want to read a book (Harry Potter) written by a woman, Joanne Rowling's publishers demanded that she use two initials, rather than her full name. As she had no middle name, she chose K as the second initial of her pen name.
