That is KINDA like being trolled. A little. I guess we'll count it.

Pretty cool, but you only have 60 seconds. I scored 15/30 but ran out of time to get more.

I wonder: Is there any essential difference between military gear & clothes and other gears & clothers when it comes to terms of "bloodstainedness"?

I like to wear an East German steel helmet from the National People's Army. One of the tasks of that military was to guard the border and open fire on people who tried to desert from the country's territory. I also own a M35, of WWII's Wehrmacht, as well as a military helmet from the Soviet Union.

So: Are these clothes really more bloodstained than others? Keep in mind that some popular clothing companies utilize child labor, the fur industry brutally slaughters animals...

Thats more of a list searching test. I got 12 but scrolling the answers on the phone was a huge detriment.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Nicki, I did the same thing. I took the stupid thing on my phone and had to keep scrolling up and down, which wasted a ton of time. Lame! LOL

I'm gonna try it on my computer and see what I'd really get.

The Goodreads feature of the week (or how is it called?) is "20 Books Guaranteed to Make You Laugh Out Loud". Yeah, humorous book that make you laugh are fine, but... there is not a single book by Kurt Vonnegut on that list!

message 3723: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Is Vonnegut funny? I've only read Slaughterhouse-Five and I just thought it was annoying. LOL

message 3724: by [deleted user] (new)

He is the most funny and humorous author I've read so far, but I guess a novel about the destruction of Dresden told from the pov of a time traveller abducted by space aliens and exhibited at the zoo is not everyone's taste.

message 3725: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Hmm... yeah. Possibly. I dunno if that was really my issue. I just think it was too all over the place and didn't really know what story it was trying to tell.

What would you call Vonnegut's funniest book? Maybe I'll try that one and see whether I think it's funny. It could just be that I'm not much for absurdist humor.

HomeInMyShoes Ekel wrote: "He is the most funny and humorous author I've read so far, but I guess a novel about the destruction of Dresden told from the pov of a time traveller abducted by space aliens and exhibited at the z..."

I'd go with Breakfast of Champions. Although I am partial to the shrot story "Who Am I This Time" from Tales From the Monkey House as my favorite piece of Vonnegut writing. Not funny on that one, just brilliant.

Vonnegut isn't side-splitting to me. He used to be one of my favorite authors, but he grew thin for me. I did really enjoy Slaughterhouse, Sirens and Breakfast though.

How does one even see the feature of the week, I can't see it anywhere?

message 3727: by [deleted user] (last edited May 27, 2016 08:35AM) (new)

I just realized it's called the Goodreads blog, but I have no idea how to navigate to that page. However, the link for the current feature is https://www.goodreads.com/blog/show/6... .

message 3728: by HomeInMyShoes (last edited May 27, 2016 08:41AM) (new)

HomeInMyShoes ^Haha. Thanks. Yeah, I found it, but I had to do a web search for it. Such effective site navigability.

message 3729: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) It can be found on the homepage, bottom right.

message 3730: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes Not on mine. It must be an option I have turned off. I'll have to look again.

message 3731: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Ahh... you are right. I've been so used to seeing them above the quote section on the homepage that I didn't check, but it is gone now. Weird.

message 3732: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes Weird or expected given the random nature of changes here. As much as it was confusing with goodreads and Home going to different places for people, that made sense to me. goodreads was the site home, Home could be retitled to My Home and then the front page on goodreads could be the blog and news and such. Would allow people to keep their page cleaner while still having access to everything.

I have too many shelves which makes my home page scroll forever downwards, but that is my problem and I can do something about that if I want. I do like tracking all the countries for my reads, but I do have a ridiculous amount of shelves with one or two books on them. That's changing, but some shelves will always be ridiculously small.

Nested shelves would be nice so I could narrow to the UN region groupings and then have the countries underneath.

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments So yesterday was my baby shower. What is with people ignoring the registry and only buying heaps and heaps of clothes? I have some many newborn sized clothes, I might never get through them all. And socks! Socks are apparently hot this year for newborn boys. So many socks... I get that it's no fun to buy a waterproof mattress protector or a booger sucker (aka, nasal aspirator), but hot damn. I wanted to pick out some clothes for myself!

I sound ungrateful, I'm not. I'm super grateful that people even wanted to contribute. I'm just tired already thinking of sorting through all of those clothes! And now I need to buy a drawer organizer for socks... Formal socks, casual socks, sporty socks... Socks.

No, that makes sense to me. If you go through the trouble of making a registry, it wasn't for shits & giggles.

If I ever have a baby I'd probably not have a shower. I don't want to plan it and I hate writing thank you notes. And I'd rather buy my own stuff cause I'm OCD like that. O_O

message 3740: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments I only had one because I didn't have to plan it (family did that) and I can't afford to buy everything I need on my own, so I needed the help. Babies are expensive and we've been putting away as much money as possible so I can fund my maternity leave and have some time off with the baby. Woo hoo non existent US maternity benefits :-P

message 3741: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments I just got done sorting everything. I actually got hardly any newborn stuff, I'll need to buy a few outfits in that size so that will be fun. 3-6 months though... So many onsies, all short sleeve. No pants. Considering it's going to be winter when he's in that size range (probably), I'm going to need to snag the baby some pants and some zip up hoodies or something or he'll be a cold baby. His feet will be warm though, socks socks socks.

I'm glad I'll get to do some clothes shopping! Can't wait to pick out some jammies and things like that. Gah!! I can't wait to have the baby! Less than 2 months to go! Yay :-)

Ugh. That sucks but I'd be in the same boat. Here the maternity leave is 6 wks if vaginal and 8 wks if c-section. Woo.

But that's great you get to go shopping! When my goddaughter was born I bought her a ton of stuff...then her mom told me I have the worst taste in baby clothes ever so I stopped, lol.

The paid portion of my leave is the same. Then because of FMLA you get 12 weeks total, so I'll have either 6 or 4 weeks unpaid to cover. I have 4 weeks of vacation saved up (haven't taken a day off in foreverrrrr), so that just leaves 2 weeks unpaid if I have a natural birth. I hope it's natural, but my last was cesarean so I'm not sure if it's going to happen. Also, it's sucks, but it would almost be better if it were cesarean financially... Then I'd have the whole 12 weeks paid and the money I've saved up can go to paying down credit cards I've run up with baby stuff. My insurance pays 100% either way so my bill will be the same... But cesarean recovery sucks. And I want to experience natural (how sadistic is that?)... So I'm conflicted.

Either way though... As long as the baby is healthy I'm happy.

Not having had any babies I'm not sure of the exact number though.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

The US sucks for maternity. 12 weeks unpaid for the mother is all we are guaranteed.

It sucks majorly.
