To put it in perspective, I have a friend who reviewed a Nook earlier in the week. I've seen this review near the top of my update stream maybe 6 or 7 times. I saw it just now, and noticed she had 229 likes on it.
Wait, I take it back. The review was originally posted in October. She has a lot of comments on it, some recent. Do new comments make a review float?
As a side rant - I really wish goodreads would do the thing where you can lock the date you created the review instead of updating it whenever you do an edit.
There are typos I've caught much later that I've just left, because I don't want the review date to change.
Yeah, it's called a date created and date modified field. Give people the option to change the date created if it is a major flub and redo and then just update the modified date. Let people decide in their feeds if modified is important or not.Somewhere is the right answer, but it's not going to be right for all people. If the review is significantly changed than removing the book from your collection and then re-adding it and setting the review is probably the best method. But then comments and likes are lost. Such is life on the IPC.
Maybe there was something strange going on with the GoodReads review algorithm.Earlier this week, I got a spate of likes on some of my reviews from both friends and strangers. One review was recent and had a dialog exchange in the comments, but some were from a while back.
Weird.

I am going to side-rant your side-rant....I wish there was a better way to track when you re-read a book. I still want the date for which I originally finished the book, but I'd also like the book to show that I am currently reading it again.
Sigh. First world problems.

What are you in for?
Murder.
Armed Robbery.
Kidnapping.
Review floating.
Today I saw a girl with a sticker which had the name "Immanuel Cunt" printed on it. Really liked that idea/concept.
Actually, I'm roughly familiar with the Prussian philosopher and his theories. They were object of an oral exam (no pun intended) I had at university years ago. But hell, the name on the sticker really read "Immanuel Cunt".
A technical question concerning Goodreads:
If i finished a book in the past year and it was added to my reading challenge count and I re-read it this year, will it disappear from my old reading challenge because it is listed for the new?

Yes.
A common workaround is to add a second copy of the book and put the new date on that one instead.
Thanks for the tip, colleen. That workaround works, but only for widely published/printed authors.
@ Homeinmyshoes: That could be indeed one of the rare cases where a conspiracy theory turns out to be true.

Did Goodreads get a new design or is my browser broken?
"G", "My Books", "Browse" and "Community" are now on the left side of the top screen.
Ekel wrote: "Did Goodreads get a new design or is my browser broken?"Feedback group members got the change: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Strange. As far as I know, I'm not a member of that group.
Ekel, did you somehow jump to the GR android app? I think the dropdown menu on the left allows you to ?return to homepage, or something like that. It happens to me, too, sometimes.
I'm on my computer and I see the change. Who signed me up to be part of the feedback group? I don't remember doing that.Is the font different again. Or am I now paranoid?

Do you mean the mobile version? No, i just tested that. When I switch to mobile with my pc browser, it is a completely different design.

Yes, exactly what i was talking about. So no Return to Desktop choice, then?SS thought that would solve it. Did you log out and come back?

I haven't followed the thread, so I'm not sure what's going on. I'm on desktop and part of the FB group and I don't see the change. Maybe it's browser dependent?

Yes, log-out and log-in didn't work either. Perhaps deleting the browser cookies could help? I'll try that later on.

You had to go through a link to see the test screen.Maybe they released it.
It's been about 4 days since the preview was put up.
Though that doesn't make sense. Anyway....it still gets you there.
; )

I don't see anything different.
From what I understand for briefly looking at the thread is that there's a link you have to click on to get to the altered version, but then some people are having trouble getting back to the regular version, so there's another link you have to click to do that.
Well, I got a different look when I logged on earlier today but now it's back to looking the same. maybe they're in the midst of some more changes?
colleen the fabulous fabulaphile wrote: "Nothing good will come of this..."Oh come on. Eventually one of their changes has to be good. Am I right?
:crickets:
Well, I suppose. They say even a blind hog finds an acorn occasionally and a stopped clock is right twice a day.
Nicki wrote: "But I'm fully expecting the feedback to be ignored and the changes to be implemented with little to no adjustment, as usual. "Yup. This is just so they can say it was tested and vetted before release. Nothing will actually get changed.
I love making men uncomfortable with my pregnant state, specifically at work. I'm 16 weeks along and am very clearly showing, but guys still will look at me... Glance at my stomach.. and then look awkwardly back at me and not say anything. Following the golden rule for men.. Unless the baby is literally being born in front of you, don't ask!I have no idea why I get so much pleasure out of this. Maybe just because I work in such a boys club and am constantly feeling awkward because I'm the only girl, it's nice payback to make others feel awkward and to see them squirm. Squirm! I'll never confirm I'm actually pregnant!!! Mwahahaha :-D
