Love this idea. Very cute. I love the "campfire" pics.

Punk rocks works, though, what with the tie and the pixie skirt. :D

One's from MD, one's from Africa and the other is a Georgia boy.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments I pretty much worked alone. I got my job/call I went and did it...I got another call/job. I think that's one reason I stayed with it.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments I don't mind being a bit social, actually. At work and at the theater is really the only RL socialization I do, and having some coffee and chatting in the kitchen is certainly better than having to work. ;)

I just thought it was funny she thought I'd styled it this way on purpose, but really I just couldn't get it to stay down this morning if I wanted to.

In related news, though, I was just excited that someone (a guy) recognized my tie was from Harry Potter. ^_^

Yeah, I generally have no idea what the back of my head looks like. If I like the part I can see, I'm happy enough not to know what the back looks like. ;)

message 519: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I'm going to be working from home full time starting next week. It... should be interesting. I wouldn't really say that I'm a "social" person, but I really liked the people that I worked with at the job that just ended, so I was social with them. Otherwise, I'm perfectly happy to become a cat-lady hermit. LOL

So, I'll definitely have to make an effort to not do that.

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments Weather's supposed to get "bad" in Georgia again tomorrow.

Interestingly, the local forecast (not where it's bad. That's Atlanta. To Atlanta, there is nothing else in the state) has us having a high of 37 and a low of 41 tomorrow.

Err?

That's worse than yesterday when I read my stupid weather app. "It's currently 72. Today's high was 70."

O_O

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments I saw the forecast. Here in the south we hope for quick melt. A half inch (or less) will shut down the area. No removal equipment, no snow-tires...no experience in driving in snow unless gained elsewhere...and usually lots and lots of ice instead of snow.

The recent shutdown of Atlanta will make them sensitive. The forecast I saw calls for like 9 inches of snow. That would equate to a glacier covering the northeast. So hopefully they'll get warmed temps and it will be more rain than snow or worse ice...or at least that it melts quickly.

Christa (christaw) Mike (the Paladin) wrote: "No removal equipment, no snow-tires...no experience in driving in snow unless gained elsewhere...and usually lots and lots of ice instead of snow."

You forgot "somehow got the idea that 4WD is effective on ice".

Back when I had a daily commute (work at home now) whenever we had mixed road conditions (ice, snow, slush) it was always the 4WD SUVs and light trucks (all engine, no ass) that were halfway off the road, stuck in a ditch, etc.

Driving through downtown coming from work in Bellevue, I'd straddle the lanes if I had an opening. Some people would catch on and soon we'd have a nice line of lane-straddlers, safely chugging along. Others would think we were crazy, not realizing what we were doing.

I like my cat, but she can be annoying when I'm reading. :)

I'd friend you on GoodReads, but you seem to have an aversion to authors named Terry. I must ask, why didn't you stop reading Terry Goodkind? That's an awful lot of 1 and 2 star reads to keep plowing through the series.

I miss living in the South. I shall return one day!!!!!

But yeah, here we if its still snowing after 1 am they will probably give us the day. Not that DC can't handle the snow...but they've gotten very sensitive since the bad snow we had a few years ago. The govt waited too late to send people home so the highways got clogged with people stuck in the snow. Several people died. :(

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments Right...Wasn't trying to rub it in.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments Terry Goodking, ahh yes... I was trapped. I liked the first book and the first few after that were pretty. My son and his best friends (two young men who practically grew up in our house) were reading it. I'd introed them to Wizard's First Rule. Thus I felt responsible. I'd led them into this series of books that slowly but inevitably turned into Mr. Goodkinds's diatribe on life, politics and metaphysics.

I was greatly relieved to get through it. I had this happen with a few other books I got into with reading groups and so on.

But hey...I like Terry Pratchett pretty well, his name's Terry.

Christa, yeah I forgot to mention that. Somehow people with 4WD on ice don't realize that the ability to move at a good clip on ice does not translate to the ability to stop on ice. I drove a service truck here (Nashville) for twenty+ years. It was always a risk some 4WD driver would take someone else out with himself.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments So, we just got a PS4 for Jer and with V-day coming up I was gonna get him something game related.

But there aren't any games he wants that are out.

But I saw that one game he has listed is out the 25th.

So -

Should I pre-order him the game and give him an IOU, or buy a second controller for the actual day? (V-day isn't a huge deal for us, but we do like to do a little something.)

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments Speaking as a guy I'd be just as happy with a card saying I've pre-ordered the game. Just me so i don't know if he'd feel the same. Give him a cake or something along with the card, the he gets the recognition and knows he has a game coming.

I'd be ok with the pre-order and a card. You could print out a pic of the game and put it in there.

And Cake! We always love cake...
