Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments Seriously. I'm think I'm cracking up. I don't often talk about weather. People have been driving me crazy this year with all of their talk about the "balmy" (next person who uses that word... *shakes fist*) negative temperatures. It's been snowing non-stop, there has been 2-3 FEET on the ground since New Years.. But I help my tongue, and just waited patiently for it to get better. But it never will!!! I know it now!!!

It's like Swan Song! Nuclear winter!!! It'll never warm up, cold forever, end of the world!

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments I think we need to discuss SAD (seasonal affective disorder)....and maybe hide all sharp objects.

Nan (felicityk) | 245 comments Or put on brightly colored shirts and drink things with little paper umbrellas stuck in the glasses. (Snowing here too.)

message 604: by Gerard (new)

Gerard Quinn | 165 comments It could be worse. You could be in Ireland where it always rains

message 605: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I'd take constant rain over constant snow and freezing temperatures.

message 606: by Gerard (new)

Gerard Quinn | 165 comments The snow will melt come spring and summer but here it continues to rain :)

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments It's up to 76(F) here, but they're calling for thunderstorms here. Spring (even though this is a little early) tends to bring warm fronts colliding with cold fronts here. I hate storms.

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments I'd take rain over white out snow and being trapped inside :P

I'm coping using retail therapy. Buying bikinis and summer cloths for my honeymoon in Mexico in July... Wish it were right now! Although I need to work out a LOT more (not to mention tan) before I'll be ready for that trip.

Gerard Quinn | 165 comments It is 3 celsius here, windy and raining. Thats not bare belly weather.

I can't really buy clothes online - I need to try it on first. :(

Where are you getting your swimsuits?

message 615: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments Victoria's Secret, love their swim suits. The tops are sized like bra's, so if you know your bra size they always fit. And I just know my bottom size, so I'm good there. I buy so much from them online.. It's the only place you can get their clothes so I kind of have to. Love their jeans.

Yeah, I'm non-standard shaped so I guess I'll have to pass. :(

I could do the tops but not sure about the bottoms - if its not cut right...I'm suddenly shooting a porno.

Jim Cantore, the harbinger of tv-worthy bad weather, is in Nashville. I really hope his trip here turns out to be a waste of money.

They've been saying for days that we could get bad storms tonight and I've been all "yeah, okay". When I heard last night that Jim was coming I started counting water bottles and granola bars.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments I know I saw the local "weather people" talking about the Weather Channel coming to town. Also hope it's over reaction.

Anyone going to read it? C'mon. Admit it if you are.

WTF??!

I'm in the wrong business.

WElp, wonder if this will do as well as Tyra Banks' book.

You know they're competing with the older sisters, right?

Dollhouse

I gave it a twice over and neglected to read the blurb...

message 626: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) The only reason why I know about Dollhouse is because my library had it in on the "New Books" shelf. The last name is hard to miss considering that it's so much bigger than the title. lol. I can't believe my library orders the freaking Kartrashians, but they can't get the latest Kate Quinn or Brandon Sanderson books.

THey should all be fired!

But what can I say? There's not a single copy of Malazan available in my library system.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments have I just seen the Kardashians mentioned on Goodreads...

Think I'll go lay down a while.

At least we put it in the "Randomnessoity" thread rather than one that directly deals with books...

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments I think I feel a little ill....I'm not sure but I think my IQ may have just dropped a point or two.

message 631: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes Winter has been impressive this year. It's -27C here right now. The normal high is -5C.

Forecast highs for this week:
-18C
-16C
-20C
-21C
-22C
-15C
-18C

Really winter? Is that all you got? Do your worst, you...

That's what I'm sayin'. Taunting Winter results in February tornadoes. Then Jim Cantore will be coming to YOUR neighborhood.

(Fortunately, last night resulted in widespread property damage but little, if any, people damage.)

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments Missed our area mostly, thunder, rain. Hoping for a calm spring.

message 636: by Luke (new)

Luke | 333 comments I work in disaster restoration (water damage, storm damage, fire damage, etc.) and I'm on call 24/7 this weekend. I'm praying desperately that there are no calls, I have books to read lol.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments I'd like to avoid some of the drama we occasionally get here. I was working when that batch of tornadoes hit Nashville a few years ago and went under one. I just got off the road as the thing decided to bang my truck up and down for a while. We worked on damage for a long time after those.

Then there were the floods a few years ago. Happily we're on higher ground but it flooded everything around us.

Hope it's just nice...a month or two of 70(F) degree days...hope, hope, hope.

I second that (for my area of course). Last year we had record rainfall, record tornadoes in November, and then two almost record cold snaps. I'll be happy to go disaster free for a good while.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments G.K.Chesterton wrote “Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.” I checked the quote here. Under Chesterton's name there were no likes. On the other hand Neil Gaiman quoted the line in his book Coraline. I think it's 6000+ plus people here have liked it giving Gaiman credit for the quote.

Sigh. We are in deep, deep trouble.

message 640: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Edit the quote, or ask a librarian to do it. If it's wrongly attributed, they'll change it.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments Gaiman is getting credit because he used it in a book. So when someone says they like the quote and sight Coraline they are correct, it's just that Gaiman was using a quote. I'm not sure if he mentions the origin of the quote. So, the quote is in the book, it's just not original to the book.

message 642: by Mary (new)

Mary Catelli | 125 comments the problem is that that is not what Chesterton said. You can read the actual Chesterton quote here:
https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/6100...

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments I looked some of that up and you may be right. I thought there were 2 quotes as I was aware of the given quote before Gaiman. If it's a paraphrase it's been around I guess. Sorry if I'm wrong.

I will accept 50 lashes with a wet noodle.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments SO MAD.

So, I have bookshelves that are really deep.

I was rearranging some of my books and shelves today when I saw a cup behind the books on one of my shelves.

Someone - probably when the inlaws were here last time - stuck a cup with red-ish liquid behind the books! on my shelf!

Since I have a lot of shelves I'm just noticing this. :(

I hate people.

I think, the next time they come, I'm going to have to do a group meeting to tell them to stay out of my library because they don't know how to act. :(

Laurel My heart would skip a beat! And not in a nice way!

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments If I may ask...what was the liquid? I mean it could have been blood. Are any of your in-laws vampires?

^This

:(

I'm luck that my library is an open air room. I can only shudder to think of the moisture. It had started to grow things. *gross*

And it had to be either a teen or an adult because it was slightly above my eye level...

So my bet is on a teen hiding an illegal drink or an adult who'd had a frontal lobotomy.

They may soon become zombies...

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments So my daughter and I just went to Applebee's (after we left the laundromat). We had a very nice and helpful server. I ordered the house sirloin...it was tough and just warm. My baked potato was cold. I had to send it back and ask them to microwave it so it would melt butter.

Still gave the girl a good tip as it wasn't her fault, but I'm annoyed. My daughter likes the place. If I get to pick we're going to Long Horn next time. LOL

message 650: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)
