Glad i'm not alone here on that book.

saad (syedsaad) | 8 comments I was really disappointed after reading the Trylle series by Amanda Hocking. I read the amazing reviews for switched and thought that it was a book that I had to read. I managed to read all the three books in the series but was left highly unsatisfied in the end. The writing style is not great and the romance between the main characters is not handled well.

Kirstyn | 18 comments Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1) by E.L. James
Absolutely awful, I don't get why so many people bought it.

message 154: by Annie (new)

Annie (AnnieAnnieAnnie) | 807 comments Shiver, I actually liked it but when I was halfway down the book I just couldn't get myself to read more and since I had soooo much other books on my to-read-list I stopped there.

message 155: by Annie (new)

Annie (AnnieAnnieAnnie) | 807 comments I love maggie, though

message 156: by Puput (new)

Puput (pupuutc) | 37 comments The Iron Fey series from Julie Kagawa. There was a time when the book gets so much hype and I couldn't help but find out for myself and it turned out to be... not my cup of taste. Didn't even finish it. And Shatter Me from Tahereh Mafi. I sensed a love triangle developing and backed off right away. I'm working to give it another shot, though, since everyone seems to be saying that the story keeps getting better. And there was Fallen by Lauren Kate. That, I assume, is popular because many people hate it. Bad characterization, very disturbing romance, and predictable plots in general.

message 157: by Mira (new)

Mira (sysimarja) | 15 comments Everybody seems to love Ignite Me but I hated it! The main character became super annoying, the guys were totally different from the other books and it had too much drama and close to no action.
Also Matched by Ally Condie, I haven't even tried reading the sequels. And The House of Night series, I read probably 5 or 6 of them and then I could not take it anymore.

message 158: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (lavlinicole) | 5 comments Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
Divergent by Veronica Roth

message 159: by Atnea (new)

Atnea For being honest, I kind of hate The Selection (The Selection, #1) by Kiera Cass even though I plan on reading them all, just out of curiosity. But it is horrible. Also, you're gonna kill me for this, Insurgent (Divergent, #2) by Veronica Roth I mean, Divergent was perfect but then Insurgent just...ugh! I can't even say. And then there's The Host (The Host, #1) by Stephenie Meyer Like, I didn't even finish it!

Maria Matched

message 163: by Krysten (new)

Krysten (kiki16) | 1 comments I hated the host by stephenie meyer, I managed to finish it based only on the person who recommended it. But it took well over 300 pages to capture any of my interest and the movie was crap. Also it's not really YA but I disliked the catcher in the rye immensely.

message 164: by Ela (new)

Ela Didn't like: Dash and Lily's Book of Dares.
Was underwhelmed by: Divergent, The Raven Boys.

message 165: by Brandon (new)

Brandon Book Nerd (kuyabrandon) | 43 comments Gone. The story line moved very fast and I couldn't even keep up with the current situation. For example, in the first 50 pages, these are what happened so far: The kids find out the adults disappear, the bullies start to take control, Sam (the main character) denounces them and takes control of himself, they travel everywhere to find abandoned kids, everybody starts to go crazy, they find a five year old that can shoot fire out of her hands and finally Sam finds out he can shoot a burst of light with his own hands. See how fast that moved along? I finally closed the book and never read it again.

message 166: by K (new)

K (heytherekayla) I absolutely could not stand The Host by Stephenie Meyer. I found it so boring that I couldn't even finish it. The whole premise of the story was so poorly fleshed out and I just hated everything about the book.

message 167: by Rae (new)

Rae King (abookishgirl4) | 92 comments mine is also the host!! eek it was soil hard to get into it was so drawn out and boring
boo

message 168: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina (brinasbooks) I HATED the book Gone. That story was awful, mainly because the characters were so shallow. The plot was slow and stupid, and nothing ever happened that I couldn't predict.

message 169: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay | 54 comments I realize that Fifty Shades isn't YA, but this is a perfect example of a really popular series that I couldn't stand. And apprently, I'm not the only one that felt this way which is comforting. :)

message 170: by Lara (new)

Lara Life of pi

Perks of being a wallflower

1984

Twilight

I'm also generally disapointed in the 3rd book in most trilogy's including matched, hunger games, delirium etc

message 171: by Daniela (new)

Daniela | 9 comments I was not a fan of "Delirium" so much so that I find it hard to continue on with that series. And I must also take note of the love/hate relationship I have with all things Cassandra Clare, she is just too much for me at times.

message 172: by Eva (new)

Eva (evapenguin) | 4 comments Daniela, yes on the hate/love relationship with Cassandra Clare! I am so annoyed with her characters (seriously, are they all so socially stunted that they keep misreading each other?) and the same heartfelt conversations and confessions that get recycled over and over. And yet I cannot stop reading.

I still have not been able to finish The Knife of Never Letting Go even though it got so many awards and glowing reviews. I will give it another go at some point, though.

message 173: by Bumba (new)

Bumba | 9 comments The Fault In Our Stars, except explaining the 'fault' of Shakespeare's quote author JG has just blew it

message 175: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina (sabrina_paul) | 27 comments The House of Night series & The Vampire Diaries. Admittedly, I read TVD a long time ago, so maybe I should give it another chance sometime.

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 359 comments I've not read either of those.

message 179: by Daniela (new)

Daniela | 9 comments Oh foolish me, I forgot to mention the "Uglies" Trilogy; all that "bubbly" and "-wa's" attachted to everything, I wanted to vomit =/

message 180: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 359 comments Yeah that annoyed me too haha. But the plot's good!

message 181: by [deleted user] (new)

The Wind Singer by William Nicholson. People have recommended this novel to me for years and I still don't understand why. I love the idea behind it but hate the characters and the way it is written.

Yet people still just keep telling me I'm wrong. Maybe it's just something I don't get.

message 182: by Putri ingrid (new)

Putri ingrid | 2 comments shiver & lola and the boy next door. i expected more from Shiver but the story just too boring for me. and many ppl loved Lola and the Boy Next Door, but i stopped to read it after few chaps too boring.

message 183: by Bumba (new)

Bumba | 9 comments Fangirl;so much hype about this one; i couldn't able to read after 50 odd pages

message 184: by Joke (new)

Joke I read all the Harry Potter books because I think everyone needs to read them but in whole the serie, I only found One book good.
Love the movies, hate the books

message 185: by Mandie (new)

Mandie (literarywanderlust) | 3 comments Can someone explain their dislike for the Fallen series by Lauren Kate? While I personally love the series, I've seen quite a few all over goodreads who adamantly despise this series and only bash it and other authors. No real reasons as to why they didn't like it or constructive criticism. Thankfully no one was that harsh on this thread.

I really haven't come across a series that is popular and I didn't like. However, there's some independent ebook that I didn't care for cause the Writing and set up was so confusing. Don't even remember the name of it

Drew (drewscupoftea) | 27 comments Here are more that weren't as bad, but still disappointing, and super-popular:

Insurgent (Divergent, #2) by Veronica Roth

The Maze Runner (Maze Runner, #1) by James Dashner

Wither (The Chemical Garden, #1) by Lauren DeStefano

I Am Number Four (Lorien Legacies, #1) by Pittacus Lore

The House of Hades (The Heroes of Olympus, #4) by Rick Riordan

The Mark of Athena (The Heroes of Olympus, #3) by Rick Riordan

Me neither

I couldn't even read the first chapter
It was that bad

message 190: by Emily (new)

Emily Salvatore | 4 comments Daughter of smoke and bone! The characters and the world annoyed me, the plot was confusing and boring, and I just couldn't finish it no matter how hard I tried

Maureen(with an unquenchable thirst for books) (monnw) Eva wrote: "Daniela, yes on the hate/love relationship with Cassandra Clare! I am so annoyed with her characters (seriously, are they all so socially stunted that they keep misreading each other?) and the same..."

Try to finish the knife of never letting go. it's slow in the beginning but it actually picks up at the end. i wanted to quit reading it when i started it but I'm glad i didn't because the other two books are great.

HORRIFIC book. I.just.could.not.

Maria | 6 comments Inês wrote: "Fallen by Lauren Kate. The characters were so stupid that sometimes I just wanted to jump inside the book and punch them."

ITA. I don't understand why this series is so popular. I found it to be quite insipid.

message 194: by Krissie (new)

Krissie (infernal_stars) | 6 comments Fallen (Fallen, #1) by Lauren Kate Been a while since I've read this, but it just dragged on and on and was so horribly cliché at so many points.

City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare Even though I've read all the books and expect to read CoHF. The funny thing is that I love Cassandra Clare's other work; I just want to punch Clary, and I just can't take Jace for his overly snarky attitude and arrogance. AND THEY NEED TO DO IT ALREADY GOOD LORD.

Hush, Hush (Hush, Hush, #1) by Becca Fitzpatrick Nora was just effing stupid, and so was Patch, but he was less stupid than Nora.

Wither (The Chemical Garden, #1) by Lauren DeStefano I actually really enjoyed this one, but the last two I wouldn't mind burning.

message 195: by Nicolas (new)

Nicolas Fernandez (iamnikf) | 65 comments The 5th Wave (The Fifth Wave, #1) by Rick Yancey It's just so . . . freaking painful to read. You can read my review here but, basically, the characters are annoying and unrealistic, the plot is boring and not original, and I fell asleep a couple of times while reading this. The movie may turn out to be good, though.

message 196: by Shadowhunter (new)

Shadowhunter Clary (ShadowhunterClary) | 11 comments The Hobbit! I would not stand it I thought it was too long winded and immature also I thought it would get better as it went on but it didn't and I found it rather predictable.

message 197: by Joke (new)

Joke I Also didn't like the hobbit! I didn't even finish it because it was too childish. Not What I expected for a book That popular...

message 198: by Brandon (last edited Jun 26, 2016 02:24AM) (new)

Brandon Book Nerd (kuyabrandon) | 43 comments Didn't really like White Cat and the Matched series either... I mean Ally Condie should've known about pressing enter two times. Whenever she writes about a flashback, she abruptly returns to the present. Like hello, I can't follow the storyline.

Moving on to White Cat. I couldn't follow the story. It was so boring! All the past tenses and the present tenses writing bothered me because writers are supposed to stick to one kind of writing, either past tense, present tense, and future tense! Anyways, it was boring because it had a lot of unnecessary details. I guess Holly Black likes to elaborate a lot. If he's talking about, say an apple, he rambles on and on about the texture, flavor and appearance of the apple. But I guess I just need a book that I can anxiously wait to find out what happens next.

message 199: by Danni (last edited Apr 24, 2014 03:32AM) (new)

Danni (luciepurr) Harry Potter, I fell asleep just reading the sypnosis, same with lord of the rings.
Fifty shades of grey, absolutely HATED it.
Fallen was ok, but the books that follow just get more and more boring, Could never get into Matched or Halo...
Got halfway through Obsidian and couldn't read anymore, I can barely even remember what it was about it left that little an impression.
Will probably think of some more later.
