message 854: by Tytti (new)

Tytti | 58 comments Hi,
I'm Tytti from Finland. I've been more active in Goodreads for this past year, trying out group reads and challenges (and doing poorly most of the time). I can be active, though. My "problem" with them is that I tend to read what I want and when I want, and because generally my reading is quite varied anyway (classics, contemporary literary fiction, historical mysteries...), I see no reason to change that. But I can always try. I am very interested in history, so most of my non-fiction reading is about that.

message 855: by Johanna (new)

Johanna | 766 comments Hi everyone! I have been in this group since 2012? But inactive for long, pretty much since pregnancy and giving birth. So I'm Johanna, 30-year-old woman from Finland. I have a 1 year old daughter that takes up most of my time. Also I am now trying to get back to work. I am an occupational therapist. I like to read quite a variety of genres but mostly romance and paranormal stuff. Hopefully I'll be able to keep reading more now!

message 856: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments Welcome everyone! Glad to have you with us for 2015. :)

Welcome back, Johanna!

Tytti, this group has lots of challenges, but if they don't fit into your reading style, you don't need to do them. If one sounds interesting, then give it a try! Even if you don't meet your goal, they can still be fun.

message 857: by Tytti (last edited Dec 05, 2014 10:12AM) (new)

Tytti | 58 comments Yeah, I have so many personal challenges going on (in my mind mainly) that combining them is both easy and difficult. If I don't feel like reading some book right now, I can pick another type for another challenge. The only genre I try to read less are mysteries (they are fast reads but don't give much in the long run) but sometimes they serve a purpose, too. And there are some classics among them, too, or at least they are set in interesting times or countries. Also I try to read fewer books written in English in an effort to diversify my reading.

message 858: by Peggy (new)

Peggy | 2 comments Hi, I am Peggy. I live in Eagle River, AK and my goal this next year to read more books. That is difficult because I am working full time and going to school full time. I read anything from cheesey romance novels to nonfiction.

message 859: by Liz (new)

Liz Dawson Hi, I'm Liz. I'm 41 and love to read crime though I am making a real effort to broaden my range of reading. Trying different genres, not always successfully, and sometimes surprise myself by enjoying something I really thought I wouldn't.

message 860: by Ronda (new)

Ronda (aunt_nonna) | 107 comments Good Morning,

I am not new to the group but have been absent for forever. Life got in the way, new jobs, moving an hour away from where we used to live, life changes, etc. You get the idea.
I am back and cannot wait to participate with the challenges in 2015.
For those that do not know me or remember me...
I'm Ronda... aka Ro. I live in Kentucky and work in IT at a major underwear company. My husband is a over the road truck driver and is only home every three weeks at present. We have 4 dogs, (two Boston Terriers, a Shih Tzu, and a Pit Bull) soon to be 5 because I think that we are taking in a chihuahua. Yes, I realize that I am crazy.
Enough of my rambling.
I love to read romance, memoirs, biographies, chick lit, YA, and so much more. I have found that my tastes have grown a lot.
I am currently doing a self-imposed cramathon to make the list of books read this year less pitiful.

message 861: by Katy (Queen of the trash nerds) (last edited Dec 07, 2014 10:04PM) (new)

Katy (Queen of the trash nerds) | 48 comments Hi, I'm Katy. I live in Canada. I work at bookstore and do freelance writing/editing on the side.

I like to read everything, really. I especially enjoy YA, graphic novels and books about astronomy.

I try to read 100 books a year and always manage to miss my goal by a few so I hope this will keep me on track.

message 862: by Colin (new)

Colin Mitchell | 49 comments Hello I'm Colin and have just signed up to this group as I wanted some stimulus to look at books I might not normally choose. Hopefully I will join in the currently reading book.

message 863: by Robert (new)

Robert (robertmdetman) Hello folks,

My name is Robert Detman. I read a lot, and seem unable to keep track of it all. I vowed this year to get through about 60 books.

message 864: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments So many new members! Welcome, all! Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

message 865: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennv514) Hello! I'm Jenn, 34, and live in Pittsburgh. I mainly read fiction and Romance/erotica. Trying to broaden my horizons a bit. I'm hoping to read 50 in 2015. When not reading, I keep myself busy with my 3&2 yr old boys, going to the gym, and being a Bravo junkie.
I look forward to getting to know you all better!

message 866: by Elena (new)

Elena Hi, I am Elena. I didn't read much this year but I am again wanting to read everything that is in front of me. My goal is 50 books. I like everything except war, modern romance, or science fiction books.

message 867: by Leah (new)

Leah Bayer (alphakitty) | 78 comments Hi, I'm Leah! I've been lurking for a while but thought I should introduce myself before the 2015 challenge starts. My goal for 2015 is going to be 150 books. I did my first 52 book challenge in 2013 and I thought it'd be impossible, but ended up with 137 read! So I am really excited to start off another year of reading adventures.

message 868: by Ivy (new)

Ivy (luvbug) Hi I am Ivy. I have been a Goodreads member since 2008 and have been in and out of the groups for almost as long. I read just about anything except romance novels. I am currently reading a book written by one of my coworkers Resolve and Retribution by Michael Holman. It is his first book and so far very good.

message 869: by Judi (new)

Judi (crazybat) | 2 comments Hi, I'm Judi. I have been an organizer on Meetup.com for 2 ladies social groups for women over 50. Part of both groups is a book club. I love to read but at times find my time is very limited. Maybe this will be great incentive for me.

message 870: by Michele (new)

Michele Coss | 1 comments Hi I'm Michele. I work full times as a site administrator for a before and after care program. I grew up always reading and find it odd how many children "hate" to read. I read to these children every day!

message 871: by Monica (new)

Monica Hello all! My name is Monica and I'm an aspiring archivist in sunny Tallahassee, Florida. My favorite genres are fantasy and crime/mystery. My favorite author of all-time is JRR Tolkien and his LOTR trilogy inspires me to be a better and more well-read person every day. I'm also a member of the monthly books club group Classics Without All the Class.

Happy reading! :D

message 872: by Ted (new)

Ted (theo1967) | 3 comments Hello folks,

My name is Ted, a fourth grade teacher in (currently rainy) California. I thought I'd set a goal for reading more books this year and stumbled upon Goodreads.

While my goal of 12 books gravely pales in comparison to most goals, I wanted to be realistic for my first time doing this. :)

message 873: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments Welcome to the group, everyone! I look forward to getting to know you all.

Ted, there is nothing wrong with a realistic goal! There is no competition here. And the great thing about smaller goals is that if you meet them before the year is over, you can always increase them.

message 874: by Tytti (new)

Tytti | 58 comments Ted wrote: "While my goal of 12 books gravely pales in comparison to most goals"

I started this year with the same goal, but hopefully will end up with at least 36. (And some of them were long.)

message 875: by Ted (new)

Ted (theo1967) | 3 comments Thank you for the warm welcome, Cassandra and the affirmation. :)

Glad to hear about your accomplishment, Tytti. :)

message 876: by Tytti (new)

Tytti | 58 comments Thanks, I used to read a lot as a child and also read a lot of nonfiction during the past few years but usually never from cover to cover. I also started many fictional books but never finished them, always finding something more interesting. So now I have been trying to get back to the "rythm" and both read more and finish the books I've started.

message 877: by Nadine (new)

Nadine (goingnineteen) | 35 comments Hi, my name is Nadine. I'm 31 and from Germany. I'm an accountant and in my free time I love to read. I read different genres, but my favorites are Science-Fiction, Horror and Fantasy.

message 878: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (lunnybunny) | 2 comments Hi!

I'm Natalie and I'm from England.
I love reading, but always find myself with no free time to indulge myself in a good book.
I'm hoping that challenging myself will spurn me on to read more and hopefully find some new exciting books to get to grips with.
Any suggestions are welcome, I'll read almost anything, but my favourites are mystery, YA, fantasy, romance, programming (languages and practices) and classics :)

message 879: by Karla (new)

Karla Hi Everone! My friend Susan introduced me to your group. I love the idea of challenges. Have no idea how many books I read in a year, but I'm about to find out. I see many great ideas from this creative group. Thanks. Here's to a fun reading adventure in 2015!

✨ABookGirl✨memoirs are my jam✨ (abookgirl1) Hello All! My name is Nicole and I am from the Grand Canyon State. Wife, Mom and Sun Devil. I've loved reading since I was in elementary school and my goal is to teach my kids how much fun and rewarding reading can be! Some of the first books I remember reading as a kid were Goosebumps and Fear Street! :)

My plans for 2015 are as follows:
1.Participate in the Rory Gilmore Book Challenge (A list of 339 books)
2.Read 120 books
3.Check out as many books as possible from the local public library
4.Continue teaching my kids the joy of reading

For those that are not aware, the Rory Gilmore Book Challenge comes from the TV show Gilmore Girls. The list includes a wide variety of book genres: fiction, non-fiction, classics, poetry and YA. My biggest reason for participating in this challenge is to expose myself to different authors/genres and to become more widely read.

Wish me luck and Happy Reading!

message 881: by Alisia (new)

Alisia (meniali) | 248 comments nmsanch2, I used to read Goosebumps and Fear Street also! :). The Rory Gilmore challenge sounds excellent, I may make that a personal challenge for myself also.

message 882: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi, my name is Mia and I'm from the UK. My challenge is to read 50 books in 2015, as well as to read more books that are set in countries other than England and America. I would also like to read some more non-fiction and maybe even some graphic novels and comic books as I've never read any of these before.

message 883: by Gabriel (new)

Gabriel Vale | 40 comments Hi, my name is Gabriel (18), I'm from Brazil, but living in Mexico and I consider myself a bookworm (kind of :D) and I'm gonna do a 50-books challenge this year (22,200 pages). Wish me luck! :D

Ilona | 4698 comments Hey, my name is Ilona and I'm living in the Netherlands. I would like to challenge myself to read more books in 2015. I've loved reading books since I learned to read, but hardly have the time these days due to my study at University. I'm looking forward to participate in the monthly group read.

message 885: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 0 comments Hi! I'm Kelly and am really looking forward to being a part of this group. Because of a busy work schedule I've fallen out of the habit of reading regularly. I'm looking forward to the motivation to get back into the habit! I enjoy reading all kinds of books.

message 886: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments Welcome! Lots of new members for the new year. I hope that you find plenty of motivation for your 2015 goals and lots of book friends as well. :)

message 890: by Maria (new)

Maria (mariah90602) | 2287 comments Hi, I'm Maria. I just started reading again during the summer. And I'm hooked. I used to love to read when I was younger, but then I got married and had kids and never found the time. Luckily my kids are a little older now and my husband can do without me for a few hours, so I'm back to my favorite hobby, reading.

message 891: by Maria (new)

Maria (mariah90602) | 2287 comments Thank you Star. I hope I am able to contribute to the challenges.

message 894: by Malin (new)

Malin Hello,
I'm Malin and I mostly like to read fantasy, political, horror and dystopian books. At the moment I study archiving to get a masters degree, so the time to read books for pleasure is not overwhelmingly big. Otherwise I'm born and raised in Sweden, but I usually read books in english unless they are original in swedish.
I'm hoping to be able to challenge myself for 2015, to try and find more time to read books, that I actually want to read :P

message 898: by Renáta (new)

Renáta | 37 comments Hi!
I'm Renée, 19 years old high-school student from Hungary.
I've recently got over a huge reading slump (lasted 3 years) and now I can't wait to get back to reading in earnest. Really looking forward to 2015 with its challenges and of course the new book releases. :)

message 899: by Maria (new)

Maria (mariah90602) | 2287 comments Hi Renee,

Your reading slump is not bad. Mine lasted about a decade, but I am making up for it now. I am also new to the group, but can already tell that we will both love it.

message 900: by Tytti (new)

Tytti | 58 comments My problems with reading started as a teenager when I had to stop reading in bed because it started to get too late, usually because I always did my homework in the last minute. Later I had even more homework and it was difficult to get some time for reading during the week. I started books but not many interested me enough to pick them up the next time I had some free time and I picked another. But I did go through many non-fiction books, not reading them from cover-to-cover but reading the most interesting parts anyway. Now I have been trying to finish books, I am at 66% with Anna Karenina.
