K: Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo Really enjoyed this book. My husband uses this in teaching and says the kids all think it is real.

L: The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. I know it's a series, but they can be purchased as one big book. I read them this summer, and completely fell in love with Tolkien all over again (I grew up with the films)

I loved the one with Alec Guinness and Ricky Schroder...

...and isn't Murder Must Advertise a delight? It deals with some serious, and ugly, things, but the send up of teh advertising world is both a hilarious spoof and a serious observation...

A book one should read at least once in the lifetime - even if the moral is particularly "strong"!
Fundamental to forget the TERRIBLE Walt Disney version which set it in Switzerland - and how on earth he could fine the seaside there has always been a mystery to me!!!!
