message 353: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Seriously its king :(
coffee for bonus.

I'm fixing to go get us a list together of what we've claimed.

message 354: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Mr Randomizer hates me!!! WTH!!

*groans,mumbles...he sucks*...off to look at books

message 355: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) 34 points after last week

Coat: M, SA, J
Flower: Z, M, J
Rain: SA
Dad: SA, J
Sun: Z, SA, J
Sport: M
Camp: Z, M
School: Sa, J
Leaf: M

If it's at all possible let's try to claim as many from this list as we can. That way we're closing them out especially after the hits we've taken the last 3 weeks.

message 356: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ The book I want to read has coat, flower, leaf and checking on approval for king and sport.

Will keep searching books

message 357: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Can't claim coat this week Melissa it's a winter item like king :(

message 358: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Cant' claim coat this week though since it's on the winter list.

I found one that has king, coffee, flower, dad or sun, and school.

message 359: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Jenne wrote: "Can't claim coat this week Melissa it's a winter item like king :("

doh!! I need more coffee,lol

OK ~ flower, leaf, moon >> checking w/Dawn on king and sport

message 360: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) You and me both. Y'all realize that this basically just voids our superbonus from last week excluding Z? I'm not happy with Mr. R.......

message 361: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) alrighty got my book.

will claim King, Flower, Sun, Moon, Coffee. which takes care of the words on the above list.

message 362: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Jenne wrote: "You and me both. Y'all realize that this basically just voids our superbonus from last week excluding Z? I'm not happy with Mr. R......."

YES!! HE is an a**

That being said - my book works - Dawn approved my words. Oh forgot - obviously my book has coffee in it too

message 363: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Sounds good! Z you're the only one who's gone four for four these last two weeks.

message 364: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann I am not happy with Mr. R! Grrrr.

On that note, the book I'm going to read has King, coffee, rain, dad (or sun), and school.

message 365: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Since Z is claiming sun, I guess Steph Ann lets you and I claim it too so we have the point for it. Then we can both get dad next week.

message 366: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann Jenne wrote: "Since Z is claiming sun, I guess Steph Ann lets you and I claim it too so we have the point for it. Then we can both get dad next week."

Sounds like a good plan to me! :)

message 367: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) jenne-- not sure how that happened. but I'm not complaining!

message 368: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ I finished my book earlier today. Will post my review/words in the next couple of days.

Steph Ann King & Coffee Week

Grave Peril (The Dresden Files, #3) by Jim Butcher

Read: 10/27/13
Rating: 4.5 stars

Review

I'm only three books into this series, and I'm already thinking that each one gets better than the last! This one starts off fast, with Harry and a new character, Michael, hunting down a ghost in Cook County Hospital. The action really never lets up from there. I was on the edge of my seat a large majority of the time.

The only negative thing I can say is that I did occasionally feel a little lost, like I had missed a novella or something. The missing backstory was eventually revealed, but it was a little disconcerting for a while to feel like I was missing something. In the end though, I really liked the book and can't wait to read the next one!

Items

King - "I am present as a witness to the Red King" KL 5428

Bonus item: coffee - ...blink and spill his coffee as he saw me... KL 88

School - His wife taught elementary school. KL 1408

Sun - The sun is almost down. KL 69

Rain - The lowering clouds rumbled and started dumping a steady, heavy rain. KL 2453

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Good job Steph Ann! That closes out rain :)

message 371: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Nice job Steph Ann. I like that series too!

message 372: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann I'm sad that I put off reading this series as long as I did! I'm trying to convince my fiance to read this series and also the Iron Druid series. I'm not sure how successful that attempt is going to be though lol.

message 373: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ I've recommended the Iron Druid series to my son. He's probably going to start it soon. I read him a chapter of the third book the other day so he could see if he was interested.
Hubby has no desire to read for relaxation - at least not as much as myself or our son :D Next time he has sleepless nights I'll recommend these to him. I have to make sure I then have them avail in paperback form. I did get him to read Baldacci - he is slowly reading them...like snail pace slow, lol Tiny baby steps I say

Review: So this second in the series is Hop and Lanie's story. Let me just say while I love KA books I was not looking forward to Hop's book due to stuff from Tack and Tyra's book. That being said when you find out what really went down - wow his ex wife was a total bitch. Then you begin to understand he's not a total ass. Granted - that does not occur until about 75% into the book and is not "freely shared" shall we say. Lanie is one messed up chick with a whole lot of throwing drama in her. She hasn't gone back into the dating saddle since her ex - fiance got her kidnapped, shot and he was killed approx 7 yrs ago. She decides she wants to proposition Hop for one night of straight up no complication no strings attached sex. Shocker - that is not what she ends up with. Hop decides he's not done with her after one night and so sets us off on their journey. Lanie aggravated me on so many levels. She has the bad habit off opening her mouth and letting the first thing come out instead of maybe asking a question. She has a dysfunctional family along with crap from her childhood that she should have dealt with a long time ago. For all those KA readers this on reminds me of "For You" (which is not a fave of mine at all) in some respects - where stuff has happened and we put our head in the sand for way too many years. Hop - as usual total badass alpha biker dude who can be a total pain in the ass. Then there is the 'friends' who mean well but spill crap they don't know anything about but feel the need to share anyway. This is one of the plot lines I tend to not like but she has this in a lot of her books. Anyway - all in all I enjoyed it more than I thought I would based on whose story it was.
Wow that was more long winded than I thought it would be,lol

King p 275 She treats him like a king,...
Coffee p12 I won't even expect you to take me out for a cup of coffee.
Flower p6...out of season flowers for their wedding...
Leaf p235 ...but the golden leaves of the aspens seemed to glitter...
Sport p407 ...Mitzi had a thing for the quarterback of her high school football team.

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Good Job Melissa!
Z how's your book coming along?

message 381: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Happy Halloween!! don't know about you all but we have terrible weather today for the kids to trick or treat in. Wish we lived in a town that did trick or treating the weekend before. It was nice out last weekend:(

Thanks Jenne!

message 382: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) It's been raining for two days. I checked the rain gage before I went to bed and we were at 5 inches before it rained all night. It's suppose to clear out this afternoon though.

message 383: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Ours is supposed to rain all day with heavy rain starting soon. I was hoping it would either wait or be done before this afternoon. We'll see.

message 384: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Hopefully it won't impact trick or treating!
Just checked the overnight totals we got 10 inches in 24 hrs!

~Melissa~ Jenne wrote: "Hopefully it won't impact trick or treating!

Wow

message 386: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann It started raining here yesterday afternoon, and I don't think it's really stopped since then. They're saying it may clear up during the later part of the trick or treating hours, but it's just an icky day overall.

Although I do prefer this to the snow we had last week. I couldn't believe it when I came out of my office and saw that it was snowing. It didn't stick to the ground, but that's not the point!

message 387: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Where do you live Steph Ann?

message 388: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann I'm in central IL, Bloomington to be exact.

message 389: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Steph Ann ~ Is Central Il very different from up here by Chicago? Spring, Fall and Winter takes up 10 mos of the year with summer usually being about 2 mos?

message 390: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann ~Melissa~ wrote: "Steph Ann ~ Is Central Il very different from up here by Chicago? Spring, Fall and Winter takes up 10 mos of the year with summer usually being about 2 mos?"

lol, that certainly sounds about right. I remember I was still wearing my winter coat occasionally this past May.

I think in general, Chicago can sometimes be a little colder because of Lake Michigan, but other than that, the weather is pretty similar. I listen to the Cubs radio station a lot in the summer and the weather forecasts I hear are fairly similar to the ones for my area.

message 391: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) I didn't realize till the other day that you could gamble in Chicago.

message 392: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Yep - there is a *boat* (not really - never leaves the dock ☺) in Elgin and another gambling place in Des Plaines I think - it's not really my thing. Having some one scoop away my money with nothing to show - don't like it. I'd rather go out for martinis, a play, or go to the spa... but that may just be me,lol

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Finished last night but forgot to post.

Week Nine: King & Coffee

Book: Spells by Aprilynne Pike
Finished on 31/10/2013
Rating: 4.5

Review: This book was really kind of slow at places, and that made it a little harder to read. I loved when Laurel was in Avalon, though. It was such a bright and cheery place. On the topic of Team David or Team Tamani....definitely Tamani. He appeals to me (and Laurel, I think) much more.

KING - "made by King Oberon" page 11
FLOWER - "with tiny flowers blooming" page 4
SUN - "the sun had already begun its descent" page 25
MOON - flowers that opened when the moon came up" page 47
COFFEE - "in exchange for a cup of coffee" page 220
