~Melissa~ Week 1

Heart
Bonus: Bed

Rock Chick (Rock Chick, #1) by Kristen Ashley
By Kristen Ashley
Completed re-read 8/30/13
iBook
Rating: 5♥

Was great to get back to Denver with the Rock Chick crew. Loved it just as much the second time around. Tons of laugh out loud moments. Indy is crazy along with the rest of the girls. For me (I'm gonna date myself) this is reminiscent of all the zaniness from Lucy and Ethel from the "I Love Lucy" show I watched growing up. I wish there was a Fortnum's by me ~ I'd be there everyday.

Heart: p36 Even I was having heart palpitations at daring to enter Lee's lair, worried he go all commando if he found us here.
Bonus: Bed p39 "He's in DC," Ally replied. "I think you should take his bed."
Junk food: p 136 The mints seemed lonely......I put another pack of mints on the counter, followed by two candy bars and then walked over to the fridge and grabbed two bottles of water and two diet pops. On the way back to the counter, I grabbed a box of cream-filled, prepackaged cupcakes. (view spoiler)
Piano: p496 That's when I heard it, the piano and strings starting Barbara Streisand and Donna Summer's "No More Tears."
Mexican foodp 683 Lee looked up at the waitress and ordered a diet pop for me, an iced tea for him, his burritos and my bean tostada and burrito chicharrone smothered with lettuce and cheese.

Always good to get rid of idiot employees! I'm in sunny Aruba for seven wonderful days. We have so needed a vacation.

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) week one: heart & bed

book: American Girl on Saturn by Nikki Godwin
finished on 3/9/2013
rating 5

review - this book was such a breather for me! I never thought I'd be a fangirl but if Spaceships Around Saturn were real , I definitely would be! milo was such a sweet and adorable character. he was so innocent thay you couldnt help but love him. chloe was already going through a lot, trying to get ready to go to college and enjoy her last summer at home. then bam. theres a moo-llenium crunch problem and she has to house five of the most famous boys in the world for three weeks. I'd say thats quite a shock. but Im glad I clicked to host this book on the blog. definitely one of he best books of the year for sure!

Steph Ann Week One - Heart and Bed

Of Shadow Born (Shadow World, #4) by Dianne Sylvan

Read: 9/4/13
Rating: 4 stars

Review

This will probably be short, as I want to try and avoid spoilers. After the way the previous book ended, I was anxious to find out where the story would go from there. I was definitely not disappointed! I was hooked from the first page and didn't want to put the book down. The story is definitely going in an interesting direction, and I can't wait to see what happens next. I liked that we got to see plenty of Deven, as he's my favorite secondary character. I also enjoyed the Doctor Who references, mainly because I'm a big geek and it makes me smile to see a book reference one of my favorite tv shows, lol.

The only negative thing is I sometimes thought the chapters from Stella's point of view went a little slow, although not enough to ruin my enjoyment of the book. I really wish the next book was out now, or at least had an expected publication date. I guess I will just have to try and be patient. *sigh*

Items

Heart - Her heart simply couldn't take any more. Kindle Loc. 429

Bonus: Bed - Deven dropped the phone on the bed. Kindle Loc. 293

Junk food - "Do you need a Coke?" Kindle Loc. 1403

Piano - The next night he found her at her piano. Kindle Loc. 967

Mexican food - ...a vendor selling tacos from a cart. Kindle Loc. 1579

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Heart and bed week
Read Pretty When She Destroys (Pretty When She Dies, #3) by Rhiannon Frater by Rhiannon Frater
Finished: 9/5/13
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Review:
So I've waited a long time for this book. And once again Amilya kicked all sorts of butt. She really took her powers to a whole new level in this final showdown with The Summoner. I'm such a sucker for a ragtag eclectic group in books. The Austin cabal that Amilya and Cian have created fits the bill perfectly. And I have a whole new fondness for Samantha. If you like dark UF/PNR you should check out Ms. Frater's books sometime and if you're a Texan they're a must read!

She broke his sternum driving it into his heart KL# 330
Cian had hidden in the base of one of the guest beds KL#340
But only if she wears a super heroine costume KL# 1596
Benchley appeared with a bag of chips KL#1614
Delta came today and we made tacos because I miss Texas KL# 2910

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Summer- Ball

Bonus- Elbow

message 74: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) So the book I'm thinking of reading also has planet, native american, & gift. If y'all want to claim other items I'm flexible :)

message 75: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) my book has all of those items except planet (should've done it last week lol). For summer my book has Rain, Rabbit, Mom, and Tree.

message 76: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ I found one with all the same words as well. :)

message 77: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann The book I'm thinking of has planet, native american, and gift as well, although it also has all the words Zakiya mentioned, so I can be flexible. :)

message 78: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) For planet Dawn will take Earth if its capitalized. (I think I read that in the discussion thread)

message 79: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann I remember reading that too, Jenne.

message 80: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) I vote for claiming rabbit. I don't see that in too many books I think.

message 81: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Good point rabbit isn't an everyday item.

message 82: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) kk. I'm planning on finishing my book tonight so ill just check with what everyone else goes with :)

message 83: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ For planet can it be the word planet or has to be a planet mentioned? Mine just has the word planet in it. Also my book has rabbit if she'll accept plural "rabbits"
No worries which way we go

message 84: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) I think plurals are fine. and yes she'll accept the word planet instead of the name of one.

message 85: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Zakiya wrote: "I think plurals are fine. and yes she'll accept the word planet instead of the name of one."

message 86: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) No rabbit in mine so I'll stick with planet for that category. I'll see if next week I can find one with rabbit and piano.

message 87: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) I found a book with planet but have another book I need to read before it so we'll see.

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) week two: Ball & Elbow

book: Cryer's Cross by Lisa McMann
finished 7/9/2013
rating 5

review - This was even better the second time!! It's been two years since I read it, and I actually didn't remember it very well at all. So it was nice to recap. I really love how there was Spanish-speaking characters in the book, and the concept of the entire thing was just really intriguing. This is the only book I've ever read by McMann, but I will definitely have to get her Wake trilogy, because she is a very good writer!

**BALL - "an imaginary soccer ball" pg 4
**BONUS: ELBOW - "leans his elbow out the window" pg 100
RABBIT - "the rabbit doesn't fix her problem" pg 171
NATIVE AMERICAN - "there were Native Americans and Caucasians" pg 112
GIFT - "grabs her coat, the gift, and the cookies" pg 176

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Ball & Elbow Week
Read Wanderlust by Skye Warren by Skye Warren
Finished: 9/7/13
Rating: ★★★★☆
Review:
4.5
Any lover of the Dark Duet needs to read this! I love when an author can make you like the bad guy and Hunter was a perfect example of that. He's not near the monster you'd think he'd be. And Evie, poor Evie trapped in a cage no matter where she goes. But tragedy opens her eyes to the person she is and needs to be. Evie had way more backbone than she have herself credit for. I read this in one day because I had to know what happens. It's a definite page turner and held my attention from start to finish. I really teetered between four and five stars.

Steph Ann Week Two - Ball and Elbow

Urban Shaman (Walker Papers, #1) by C.E. Murphy

Read: 9/8/13
Rating: 4 stars

Review

I wasn't sure what to expect with this book because I had seen a lot of negative reviews. I ended up being pleasantly surprised because I really enjoyed it.

I liked Joanne as a main character and also really liked Gary the taxi driver. There was humor in the book as well, which is always a nice way to balance out the more serious stuff that's going on. One negative thing is I did occasionally have trouble following what was going on when Joanne would be using her shamanic powers. For the most part though, the story was easy to follow. I'm looking forward to reading more in the series.

Items

Ball - ...Jen held the same kind of ball. p. 278

Bonus Item: Elbow - ...pushing her elbows in against her waist. p. 30

Gift - I wondered if it had been a Christmas gift. p. 74

Planet - "...leave this place now and forever, and return to Earth with me." p. 283

Native American - "...the Cherokee still practice their old ways too." p. 36
