I've only 80 pages left to go in The Girl On The Train and I have no inkling at all "whodunnit". Usually by now I at least have a theory but I have nothing!
I'm enjoying Aussie author Kylie Kaden's new release, Missing You which is due for release on 1/4 - about 30% in so far:)
Just finished Runaway Lies by Shannon Curtis. This was a real surprise! I wasn't expecting anything like it and have to admit that awful sin of being swayed by the cover...which inmo is ok, but doesn't do anything for the book. 5*sMy review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I've just finished reading The Fault in Our Stars by John Green and was deeply moved by it. One of the best books I've read for ages. I think I'll buy a copy, as this library book must be returned soon. John Green's ideas need to be re-read more than once. 5+ ★s

love this cover too :)
Next up is my #6 Buddy read with Carolyn as we continue our way through the Kathryn Fox Anya Crichton series with:
Cold Grave #6 in the series
Marianne wrote: "Then we'll hear tomorrow what you think....."Ladies, I watched One Day last night, and, like you all said, it was equally amazing.
@Andrea, Anne Hathaway was what I imagine her to be in the book and she didn't disappoint. Jim Sturgess - OH he was Fabulous, with a capital "F" and so handsome too - now I understand what you mean. His breakdown(s) was very moving and intense in the movies :)
Mish, so glad you enjoyed it as much as we did! No movie can be the same as the book, but in this one, the film maker kept the spirit extremely well.
I might just have to borrow it again.....
I am having a reading crisis - the two books I've started this weekend are both fabulous want to sit down and read without stopping books. Possibly not going to be around much as I read:
The Road to Hope by Rachael Johns (Rural Romance)And
The Last Place by Michael Adams (YA Dystopean)

I just finished reading Book Lover by Jennifer Kaufman and Karen Mack. Also called Literacy and Longing in LA. Literacy and Longing in L.A.
I was left kind of meh at the end. It had a great premise - love in a bookshop :) And it was interesting the way they included quotes from books and footnotes in the text. By the end I felt a bit like it was trying too hard to impress me with literary works. I really didn't like the heroine to start with - she was rich and a snob - but I persevered. I'm not sure why I persevered to be honest - I'm usually quick to put a book down if I don't like the characters. Something kept me reading. She did definitely redeem herself toward the end, but the guy you thought the whole book was the hero, suddenly became a complete jerk. And then the end seemed to fizzle out with an unsatisfactory epilogue tucked on the end.
Now I'm swapping back to one of the others I have on the go - Girl 43 by Maree Giles. Girl 43 It's fiction based on the Parramatta Girls' Home in Sydney, so not an overly light read :)

I quite enjoyed Girl 43 (if you can call it "enjoyed" with the subject!) Kerrie...haven't read the other though.

I recently finished The Vault by Ruth Rendell. It was a true DUD! I don't know why I battled on til the end, because I had lost interest pretty early on. I guess I persevered because I did, ultimately, want to know 'whodunnit'. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I read this book when it was first released about 10 years ago. It was quite a revelation. She came from a happy, middle class home, was well-educated, had every opportunity, but the addiction overruled everything. When she wrote the memoir, she had cleaned up and was working as a journalist for the Melbourne Age

Phew - that's a relief! I remember when the movie was being made there was such an outcry over the casting of Anne Hathaway in that role, but honestly I can't imagine either of the leads being played by anyone else.
Now we wait patiently for the movie of Us...

That sounds like a good but confronting read.

It's great you're loving what you're reading as that's not always the case!

So glad you watched it Mish! I watched it before reading and thought it was pretty special. I'm not surprised you went and found the movie.

I've finished A Good American by Alex George; a family saga about German immigrants in USA from 1904 thru to modern day times. Good solid writing with lots of interesting twists and turns in the plot. 3.50★Started The Chaperone by Laura Moriarty
Finished and very much enjoyed The Girl On The Landing by Paul Torday who, sad to say, died in December 2013. He only wrote seven full length novels, Salmon Fishing In The Yemen being the first of those, each in a different genre (he was trying to find the "ultimate" novel). I've read 3 so far, so still have 4 and two novellas to enjoy. my review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Just finished Big Little Lies. I don't normally read this type of book (chick lit) but it was surprisingly good with very likeable characters and a serious theme. Her writing is very easy to read.

I have just started the Last Dance by Fiona McIntosh, which I had on order at the Library and picked it up the other day. Though this book is due to be released in about a weeks time. I cannot find the Last Dance on Goodreads, and was wondering when it will come up on this site.
Phrynne wrote: "The Last Dance by Fiona McIntoshIt is there just a long way down the list:)"
Thanks very much. I tried a couple of times - must have been too far down the list for me!
Just finished The Girl on the Train and I was disappointed, I gave this three stars. Here is my review:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Now I'm onto Promise Me, I think Harlan Coben is creeping up there to one of my favourite 'new' authors.

Yes I remember that. The movie was really nice but a lot different from the book.

After a marathon reading effort today I have just finished the last book in an Aussie DystopianTrilogy The Last Place by Michael Adams. Was fabulous - a 5 star read (both the previous ones were too). Am now feeling drained and exhausted and will ponder on what I have read for a few days before I review.
Jen wrote: "about 100 pages into The Iron Necklace by Giles Waterfield - its pretty slow going ..."That's what I thought too, all the way through.
I'm re-reading the Paksennarrion books by Elizabeth Moon - I just love these! And I have the sixth one to read on my shelf at last!
I'm reading After You'd Gone by Maggie O'Farrell. Not quite sure how it found its way into my house, since it's not at all the sort of thing I normally read, but it's very well written and I'm enjoying it.

If you like this one, the two that follow My Lover's Lover and The Distance Between Us are (very loosely) linked by characters to this one.
I've just picked up
Past the Shallows by Favel Parrett - this is her debut novel.I read her second one last year - When the Night Comes - and that was a 4★ read for me, review of it here https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
