Fingersmith has been on my TBR for awhile, now I want to read it even more!

Sally906 | 87 comments Stuck with light reading today - had a tummy upset which meant not moving very far from the bathroom!

Read some more of The Road to Hope although it is romance it isn't fluffy as it tackles the meaty subject of Alzheimer's and ageing.

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) I've finished and enjoyed every bit of The Night Watch by Sarah Waters 4★

Continuing my 'Sarah Waters fest', I'm now reading and loving Tipping the Velvet. Enjoying my foray into Victorian Lesbian Gothic Fiction. Very, very tame lesbian fiction, that is.

I read The Paying Guests (post WWI) first, which introduced me to her writing. Fingersmith is Gothic Fiction, set in 1862. They're have very tames lesbian scenes; so tame they probably wouldn't make your mother blush. I loved each book equally.

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Finished Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Waters; a solid 4.5★!

A small warning: Some of the passages and certainly one of the middle chapters may offend the more straitlaced amongst readers. I am boringly straight but they did not offend me, merely added more insight into the character, Nan.

Great review - this is one of my current reads - really enjoying my time with the Whitshank family - I even have my own Denny - except our Denny is a girl :) This character I really love as I relate to him and empathise with his parents :)

★ Jess | 3071 comments Finished Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince for what must surely be the fifth or sixth time. Still a solid five stars. Tomorrow I get to start Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows again :)

Had to slow down my reading since going back to uni. Had two tests Friday afternoon, but the second I got home I had the pleasure of blazing through that 600 page book. Pure bliss.

Anne Tyler always excels at characterisation doesn't she? And all her people are flawed to one degree or another but still likeable- just like real people:)

message 13284: by Regina (new)

Regina I finished The Book of Lost and Found by Lucy Foley. I wasn't as enamoured by it as Michael, but I still thought it was a pretty good read.

Review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

And this evening I started The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough. Have only read around 10 pages so far, but am enjoying it already, hopefully that persists, and if it does, it will be a cracker of a book.

Stef Rozitis Read a lot. the ones I read for "fun" (as in non-study related enjoyment) weren't half as interesting as Learning Stories: Constructing Learner Identities in Early Education but now I am finally reading Teachers as Intellectuals Toward a Critical Pedagogy of Learning by Henry A. Giroux which has been on my shelf forever and I don;t know why it took me so long. It's a much easier read than I expected and fun, fun FUN

MaryG2E (goodreadscommaryg2e) | 934 comments Have just finished Bereft by Chris Womersley. It was so intriguing, I could not put it down and have read it cover to cover in less than one day. I really liked the writing style and the dreamy, almost supernatural ambiance of the story. For my 2015 Aussie Authors challenge I'm putting it in the mystery genre, rather than crime. 4★s

Another great read Mary! I also loved Bereft really nice writing style. I've been looking out for his other book Cairo, which was recommended to me after reading this...I see you have read it and not too fussed?

Julie, I definitely enjoyed Cairo, and it is well worth reading. I just had some niggles with some of the characterisation - a bit stereotypical in some places, and some minor discrepancies in the main character. Those niggles have affected my star rating and overall review of the book...Also, Cairo is completely different from the style and feel of Bereft.

I'm reading Carpe Jugulum by Terry Pratchett. Love the witches.
Have to look at getting some of the audiobooks. Who narrates them Phrynne?

I listened to this one a few months ago and had the same experience with the laughing out loud. The audio book I listened to was narrated by Nigel Planer.

I just picked up Going Postal from my library. I am reading through the Discworld books by series. Reaper Man will be next.
