Yes, strangely it doesn't magically disappear. Unfortunately.

Suzie | 478 comments I am reading The Torch by Peter Twohig and I am really enjoying the language used in this book. The Blayney kid is 12 years old but parrots what adults around him say, using all kinds of expressions I haven't heard in years. Lots of fun!

message 13024: by Jan (new)

Jan (janmerry) | 68 comments I decided to go back to some Australian authors I haven't read for a long time. Have just started Patrick White's Tree of Man and it seems promising. You do have to concentrate though as his writing is very dense.
Tried Helen Garner's The Children's Bach and I was disappointed with it. More like hard work than enjoyable reading.

message 13025: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Instead of being a good girl and reading one of a dozen books I'm "supposed" to be reading, I indulged myself by reading 2/3 of Dark Country: Where A Killer Lurks In The Shadows by Bronwyn Parry. I felt like I was sneaking so I was filled with impish delight. So far I absolutely LOVE the book.

Emily Morgan (emilymmorgan) | 15 comments I'm VERY slowly working my way through Raising Caring, Capable Kids with Habits of Mind, which I was given at the birth of my 3 year old! It's actually a great book, I just try to only read a chapter when I'm in a really receptive mood, so that I can try to absorb it as well as possible. Lots of great ideas for changing your own habits of mind as well as fostering good habits in your kids.

It's going ok so far. Not laugh out loud funny as Us but it does have charming quality to it & love the chemistry. Sometimes, I could wring Dexter's neck though. His immature behaviour frustrates me. But I am really fond of them both, and hope Dex gets his act together.

The only concern I have with the book is that I occasionally lose momentum when I'm moving from chapter to chapter (year to year). It's hard to explain but when I've adapted to the year, my surroundings & where the characters are in life/relationship...I feel I need to familiarise myself all over again and sometimes it interrupts the flow.
