Oh yes they do Phrynne, they were my wedding flowers...the yellow ones, I'm not fussed about the other colours :) lol I would have mentioned them and more but we'd probably need to start its own thread!

I read about that one in a book set in Australia. I actually had to look it up and I still have no idea what it smells like.

Needless to say, I like the pink Franni.

I still, have it on my TBR pile - guess I should read it before any movie comes out. I understand that though it is set in WA it is being filmed NW Tasmania.

I see so many people who liked that. I was bored by it and ended up reading only 70% and then reading the end. But so many people seem to think it was wonderful.

message 12009: by [deleted user] (new)

Have just finished Lila which was a little on the boring side. Starting something lighter ... Liar Bird by Lisa Walker which I am hoping is as funny as her second book Sex Lies and Bonsai which I read last year.

I agree - I loved the book, gave it 5 stars and chose it for my January challenge for my exchange read - I then chose The Chaperone by Laura Moriarty from the list of "Other readers also enjoyed..." and although it started out slowly, I'm now halfway through and really enjoying it.

Will also be interested to see the movie for The Light Between Oceans, although the book was a tear-jerker so I imagine the movie will be even worse!!

Dale Harcombe | 6886 comments Funny I can't imagine Lila being boring, Jen. It is one I really want to read. I love the work of Marilynne Robinson. But then I didn't enjoy Liar Bird at all and gave up on it. So be interested what you think. It may just mean we have different taste in books.

I had issues with the book too. Thought it was a bit melodramatic. I like the concept and plot though, and I think it would make a great movie.

Suz | 4432 comments I just finished this The Ship of Brides. Wow wow wow. Five stars. Please have a look if you're a fan of Jojo Moyes or if you're a fan of historical genres (it's based on a factual voyage at the end of WW11).

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) I've picked up a book by chance, The Passion of Artemisia by Susan Vreeland; it's about the female Italian artist Artemisia Gentileschi Lomi (Artemisia Lomi), really, really interesing so far. And it's introduced me to one of Old Masters I did not know about. A woman to be admired as she struggled against misogyny in Italy in 1600s for herself and her art. link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artemisi...

message 12029: by Neko (new)

Neko I have read two books while being away! I suspect more will be read but only on the kindle. Lugging books around is just annoying.

I finishedCloset Full of Coke A Diary of a Teenage Drug Queen and my review is: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I also finished Moscow Dreams and my rreview is here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

My reviews I admit are short this time round due to time.

I'd never heard of her, embarrassing as that is to admit. Checked out Wiki: it seems Vreeland is sticking pretty closely to the real story. And she makes me really feel Artemisia's passion for her work and, indeed, passion for life.

Good for hubby, Suzanne. I had choice with the publisher about the colour of the cover. The teal blue was my suggestion and a long way from what it started out as.

It's great isn't it? Our 7 year old grandson has Aspergers and even though he is a little boy still, we can see so many traits in him already - like different foods on certain days - he's a good eater, but don't give him pizza on any day other than Friday :) Is super smart with maths and science subjects too. This book gave me hope for the little sweetie :)

I've been on the paleo path (I don't consider it a diet) for a couple of years, which has proved to be a fantastic health decision, but reading this book is a real eye-opener and has challenged many of my perceptions about food and health.
