The Elite

Thoughts after "The Elite": Team Maxon or Team Aspen?
Vanessa wrote: "Annie wrote: "I'm not surprised. America....ugh, why can't you just pick one?"true! it's like they're in their own Selection, just like Aspen's thought."
Yeah, if you think about it, they kinda are. America is like Prince Maxton and Maxton and Aspen are the "girls".
I agree. A stereotypical version of a boy or girl, that is. Sure America's tough, but when something big happens she's in tears.
I know. America IS so stubborn. JUST GIVE UP ASPEN! THAT shouldn't be too hard. OK, being the Queen is a big thing to take on. But breaking up with your ex?
I know! She's so...interesting! Everything revolves around her. Someone should have a say about that. When I was reading this book, man, my emotions were all over the place. Beautiful job to Kiera!
I know right! I get that she's afraind to become the Queen, its a big responsibility. But your EX! Noo! Just suck it up and get over him! Puh-lease!

I mean, I like a good love triangle (again, GOOD) so I can root for the guy (who usually wins:) ). But I do like books without love triangles as well like Divergent trilogy and Legend/Prodigy (Oh wait...that sorta became a love square....well, I mean the feelings between June and Day are mutual so Tess and Anden can just....BACK OFF!) But I like books with them as well like the Hex HAll series (still grieving over Cal!!!! :'( ) or the Mortal Instruments. Wait no I take that back, I'm only on the third book, so I can't really decide that yet and I'm still mad that Clary and Jace are freaking SIBLINGS. No. Just No. But the love triangle in the Elite was just....AHHHHH!!!! Seriously. Every time something goes wrong she runs off to the other guy! And America's character doesn't even qualify for the title "heroine"! no she's staying ranked as the annoying protagonist who won't shut up and decide. :P

True that
Brittany wrote: "I know. How big is getting over your ex? At least get him out of the picture! Oh, America."But but Aspen is her first love...how do you forget that?
Diana wrote: "Yes! Have you read any other books that have this character like America?"No I really think that Kiera has created a truly individual and headache-causing character.
Ilana wrote: "i'm still team maxon. i think that there's still something there that's keeping me on his side, and i also don't fully trust Aspen right now. i think that there were too many comments made throug..."oh my gosh. I seriously hope she ends up with Maxon.
Brittany wrote: "I agree. A stereotypical version of a boy or girl, that is. Sure America's tough, but when something big happens she's in tears."Yes! That annoys me so much, I kind of wish she were like... Idk Who was the main girl of graceling, I liked her
Jasmine wrote: "I feel like the whole caste stuff is nothing more than a way for the rich people to stay rich and keep the poor people under control"Yah you're right, but now that I think about isn't that a little how our society works, of course it much easier to change classes ( castes ) but usually rich families rich. Middle class families stay middle class and lower class stay poor. It's a relentless cycle, but atleast there's more chances to change classes in our society, but maybe Keira used caste to symbolize classes
Diana wrote: "Brittany wrote: "Angela wrote: "But if this woman ends this book with no specific choice I will burn my book. Well figuratively anyway. I doubt it bc that interview someone spoke about made it seem..."Yah queen amberly dying is a total yes! I just wish their was more action, it's always dainty and the only fights they have are yelling matches. The royal ness needs to disappear .
I think the king dying would be enough, cuz then the prince would have to ascend the throne and take over Cough Maxon. You know thtat's how a monarchy works

The main girl of Graceling seemed really intense, but then again I've only read like the first 20 pages.... I wish America were more like....maybe Sophie from Hex Hall? I mean, she has a vunerable side, but she's still a tough person...actually Calla of Nightshade's pretty tough too...well, she
IS a werewolf..
Other than her being undecided about a love interest, I don't mind America. I think this series is a tame one. I do much more like the action in Divergent and books like that but I've figured this never will be. It's honestly why I picked The Selection up in the first place. I needed something lighter between my action packed ones. With that said, I think America is strong. She won't conform and she treats her maids with respect and cares about the people she loves with a passion. And announced to the world about doing away with the cates. So no she's no Tris or Sophie, but not bad either. But how she's acting by going back and forth isn't that uncommon and it's to keep the damn love triangle going. Sorry so long.
I agree that some of the "royalness" needs to disappear. To be honest, I am sick of the yelling and crying. Where's the fierce determination and persistence? I understand that some of these characters may not yet have supplies of those traits but I am getting tired of the drama at this point.
I do. Maybe I shouldn't. I think maybe I do have high hopes because there are so many more ways things can go. For the Elite, you pretty much knew what was going to happen. Or close to it. But for the One, I personally think there are many outcomes. I just want to see which one the author picks. I hope she doesn't leave us hanging again like she did in the Elite.
Yeah. I hope the ending is REALLY good. It's the last book, right? So I hope we'll get some serious SHA-BANG at the end.
Man, Ive missed a lot...I agree, I hope the last book is the best out of all! I hope she writes some books that are like 1.5 or 2.5 like she did with The Prince which is .5
Ugh, I feel so sad because Maxton "loves" kriss, and I LOVE Maxton but now I dont know if Maxton will choose Kriss or America! I hate how Maxton's fooling around with America, Kriss and CELESTE *shudders*,
Did he say he loves Kriss? Or was it just "there's something there? I cannot believe its close to a year before the last book. Will this discussion last until then?
Eml wrote: "So I don't hate Aspen, never have. I will never understand why his character gets so much hate. After reading The Selection I was really torn over who I wanted America to end up with, and I'm still..."couldn't agree more! but team maxon all the way< <3
Team nobody at this point.....I hate Aspen and before I read this book, I was team Maxon, but then....well, you know..
I always thought it was Maxton not Maxon, man Im sad...Angela wrote: "Did he say he loves Kriss? Or was it just "there's something there? I cannot believe its close to a year before the last book. Will this discussion last until then?"
I dont necessarily say that he said he love Kriss...and I dont like how the book is coming out in more than a year! I honestly dont know if this discussion will stay that long...
Diana- It's OK. Sometimes I do that with other characters from other books. TEAM BOYS? Both, you mean? Sorry, I'm confuzzled.
Team Maxon ftw. I never liked Aspen.. He just seems to moody and selfish. If he truly loved America he wouldn't have broken her heart in the first place.
Sarah wrote: "Ugh, I feel so sad because Maxton "loves" kriss, and I LOVE Maxton but now I dont know if Maxton will choose Kriss or America! I hate how Maxton's fooling around with America, Kriss and CELESTE *sh..."haha yeah I agree (on the shudder part)
I hope the One is really great because this is how I feel right now:The Selection: Good, a few mishaps, but overall GREAT and ENJOYABLE.
The Elite: Love Triangle=FAILURE.
Book: still rather enjoyable
The One: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BE GOOD/
I hope the One blows the rest of the series away. Into ditches. I mean, I really hope the One is GREAT. Better than the first two.Maxon forever!
I thought the first one was pretty good, but the second one seemed to run out of ideas to write about so it wasn't that good.
Some of things that happened in this book really annoyed me. The main problem is America. She is rash and indecisive. She spent most of the book crying and upset. She ruins every moment with Maxon by saying "I need time." He knows that America!! Maxon has been knocked down a few pegs, in my opinion. He is going around with Kriss and Celeste! Kriss is the backup in case America decides to leave but I am still mad that he is with her. Maxon is screwing around with Celeste. That broke my heart. America is so surprised and hurt that Maxon is spending more time with Kriss. Well what do you expect, America?! Because you don't want to spend time with him, he can't spend time with anyone else?! And you are hurt when Maxon is making out with Celeste while you are doing the same with Aspen!? America, you have no right to be upset and mad! Both characters, Maxon and America, need to realize that they belong with each other. America needs to trust Maxon and have more self-confidence. She loves Maxon but she is letting her intimidation of the crown cloud her judgement. I hate all the fighting and angst between America and Maxon in this book. I can not believe that America couldn't think of a philanthropy project. Really?! There are so many ideas and yet she chooses the one thing that will PO the king. If you want to make changes to Illéa, you must have the seat of princess/queen. You can't get that seat if you are enraging the royalty and advisors. You have to be smart right now, America! And removing the castes isn't even a philanthropy project! It is a government issue. And she tells the king that Maxon let her borrow the diary when he explicitly told her not to tell anyone that she has it. The ending of the second book was exactly like the ending of the first book. I feel like the rebel attacks aren't that serious and fatal. No one important ever dies! The palace just gets messed up and there are messages on the walls. Only two people were eliminated! I feel like we got no where in this book. I feel like the selection should be over by now. We need to see America and Maxon make changes to Illéa. Does there really have to be a love triangle here? We all know that America is going to come to her senses and choose Maxon. If America isn't with Maxon and if they don't make changes to Illéa, it would totally ruin everything that this series is building towards and I will not view this series the same way. Despite all of my irritations with this book, I couldn't bare to knock a star off the rating because I am in love with this series, or the idea and premise of this series. America get your head together and get your priorities straight!
Rachel wrote: "Some of things that happened in this book really annoyed me. The main problem is America. She is rash and indecisive. She spent most of the book crying and upset. She ruins every moment with Maxon ..."I agree with absolutely everything you've said
Ugh! I am so mad at this series. haha wow, you took the time to read that? Aw thanks ;) Took me a while...
Rachel wrote: "Ugh! I am so mad at this series. haha wow, you took the time to read that? Aw thanks ;) Took me a while..."No big deal haha. I really really hope that America realizes what an idiot she's been in The One.

She's writing one about Aspen called The Guard.
Rachel wrote: "Some of things that happened in this book really annoyed me. The main problem is America. She is rash and indecisive. She spent most of the book crying and upset. She ruins every moment with Maxon ..."I agree with what you said, especially "We all know that America is going to come to her senses and choose Maxon. If America isn't with Maxon and if they don't make changes to Illéa, it would totally ruin everything that this series is building towards and I will not view this series the same way. I like her character deep down, I suppose, not the one she shows us through most of the Elite. I hope it is just the Selection that has her shaken up. I hope her current additude isn't how she always is.
PS I have a stupid question: what does "angst" mean? I saw it in your "speech" (which was a quite wonderful one, may I add) and haven't heard it before.

true! it's like they're in their own Selection, just like Aspen's thought.
