Thoughts after "The Elite": Team Maxon or Team Aspen?

From the get go I've always been Team Maxon!!
I am actually quite suprised on how many people actually supported Team Maxon because personally I prefer Aspen. I actually thought this book 'The Elite' was ongoing and just making me switch sides every chapter, but by the end I chose Aspen. 1. Aspen has sacrificed just to be with America (Mer). He gave a penny every time they went to their secret hiding spot in the tree house. Since being in 6, life is pretty hard. Every penny counts. Instead of using it on food for his siblings, he instead gave it to his girlfriend who he loved, Mer. Quote to prove my point from the book: “I remembered suddenly that Aspen had always been this way. He sacrificed sleep for me, he risked getting caught out after curfew for me, he scrounged together pennies for me. Aspen's generosity was harder to see because it wasn't as grand as Maxon's, but the heart behind what he gave was so much bigger.”
2. Maxon was juggling between Kriss and America. Kriss even asked if Maxon was eating dinner in her room IN FRONT of America. I mean talk about mean. And Maxon was like 'Oh yeah, I'll be with you in a sec' before talking to America and telling her he really wanted her to stay in the selection.
3. I find Aspen and America's little secret meetings in the palace are really sweet. Despite the fact that America is in a competition to be the queen (Who she wants to and doesn't want to be), she still shows her affection to Aspen by going to those meetings and talking and having fun.
4. I find the poems that Aspen sends to America is genuinely sweet. He pours his heart on a page, and makes me go 'Aww'. I mean, wouldn't ANYONE want a guy to write you poem and saying your in his heart, and will be there forever? (To me, that's a green flag)
5. Since America is stubborn and insists that her maids sleep in their room instead of her bedroom floor, she needed a guard. Since Aspen enrolled in becoming a soldier in the palace, he voluntarily asked to be her guard. He gave up his sleep just to guard her. I find that very sweet.
Do ANY of you guys FINALLY understand WHYYY I prefer Aspen over Maxon?

For sure, team Maxon. But she made me so angry through the Elite! I felt like she kept switching back and forth. Just pick a side and stilll with it!!
I'm definitely team Maxon. I feel like Aspen is always bringing America down and telling her what she can't do while Maxon tells her how strong she is. Also Maxon could have any of the high class, prominent, well-known, and beautiful girls, but he wants to be with America-the 5. This doesn't mean I'm not pissed at Maxon for what he did in The Elite, but i still love him.The elite made me really angry, but it was still an amazing book. I've found that in a lot of trilogies the second book is the hardest to get through.
So, although Maxon was super annoying for "cheating" on America with Kris's and Celeste, I can't really blame him. I mean, the whole point of the Selection is to look at ALL of his options to find the perfect queen/wife, and he obviously wasn't doing that before because he only paid any attention to America. So basically I'm saying if America doesn't end up with Maxon I will throw my book in the fire.

Maxon all the freaking way! I still think Aspen is a manipulative little prick. I think he wants a mealticket back more than anything. I think that Maxon, though he needs to learn something about communication is still the best choice because he always believes in her and only expects from her what she expects from him (fair, equal.) I think they'd be a great team, picking each other up and running the country with incredible compassion and wisdom.And now that she has made her choice I just really hope that Aspen stays out of her way and she's finally over this Aspen chapter, Maxon chapter, Aspen chapter, Aspen chapter, Aspen chapter, Maxon chapter, Maxon chapter (etc., etc.)

through out the book i was upset with both maxon and aspen they made me mad soooo much and i didnt want america with either of them but then i finished the book and i thought aspen was ok and didnt make me as mad as he did in the first book but i got mad when he just assumed america would go crawling back to him after everything and that he wasnt ready to give her space until after she snapped at him so idk i still dont want her with aspen but i want him happy in the end with someone else and as for maxon he made me so mad when he made out with celeste and all that but then he explained why and i could understand that in a way i guess it still made me mad but yeah and then the part aout his father beating him made me even more sympathetic but he needs to just pick america already and just arghhh this book frustrated me sooo much and america needs to just stop flip flopping i mean yes i understand her emotions and all i really can relate but just decide already so maxon can pick u and be happy together forever and if america doesnt end up with maxon i do want kriss to be with him she is nice and would be a good queen and she does care about him and america needs to watch her actions she acts without thinking and that has been really bad she needs to slow down and think and just i still on the inside want maxon and america
I'm still Team Maxon although I did in the middle have some thoughts about Team Aspen but I am still on Team Maxon although there were times where i just wanted to knock some sense into him and Aspen but I am really excited to read the last book!!
Team Maxon all the way! But, he acted so irresponsibly in the second book, flirting with Kriss! Not to mention that little scene with Celeste.

I agree Rose! That was pretty much the only thing he did that made me really mad at him. Of course, I still want her to be with Maxon, regardless of his little...let's call it "incident" with Celeste.
Team Aspen! I like it when the guys are faithful to their girls, because that's the way it should be! I was mad Aspen for breaking up with her, but I was madder Maxon more for lying to Mer and kissing Celeste. And flirting with Kriss.

(P.S. About the Celeste thing i really don't care that it is part of the Selection, if he wants to mess around with girls he better get him some prostitutes)
I personally wanted to ram my face in the wall every time America would open her mouth Kriss and Maxon. In a way, American was very irrational and almost naive to every thing happening around her. Like how she thought Maxon was crazy when he (not so all the sudden) started hanging out with Kriss. What is Maxon suppose to do when all you do is push him away and give him every reason in the world not to be with you, ignore him?! Are you flippin' serious?! Don't even get me started on Aspen...When will she learn that they never really had a romantic relationship to begin with? I mean he makes you sneak out of the house (which is very illegal), and bring him food, and HOOK UP WITH HIM! I personally would take Maxon over that two faced, gold digging, fame seeker, any day...
Annoys me how some of you are "I hate Maxon cause he did blablbla with Celeste" or "I hate Maxon because he was blablabla with Kriss" but it's ok when America keeps kissing Aspen. Like, no? Maxon has to make a choice and all America does is push him away. What's America excuse? "Sorry, I may like you but I want you to do everything I want and say but then I like Aspen cause he does everything I want and say?" Like, America wake up?? I hate how this is all about America when is Maxon who needs to choose one 0.0
Instead of judging Maxon, why not judge America's choices? -_-
And I don't like Kriss. I think something is wrong with her. She is "too" nice.

forever team maxon... you know why? cuz' he's not giving up on america he still gave her a second chance although america really deserved a second chance and maxon let himself be chastised by his father for america and he let it hide but america knew it eventually. so I'm team MAXON!!

i feeeel you!! I used to like Maxon and America but after reading The Elite i am just so mad at America for being so dumb! And now i feel both Maxon and Aspen deserve someone better than America! Gosh! This book is a total screw up! I dread knowing what's going to happen on the last book!

I feel as if there isn't even a need for the term "love triangle" to be applied to this story as obviously America loved Aspen at one point, but feels nothing but friendship for him now,and let's not forget that even if she denies it, her feelings for Maxon are grounded. I think America is just trying to hold on to her past for fear of the future, and it's also a way for her to have a Plan B. I liked Aspen at the beginning [of Selection], but didn't like him very much after because he just didn't click with America anymore. That's not to say that Maxon is a perfect god (he's a an asshat sometimes), but I just find that Maxon is fresh, exciting and a brand new adventure.
Exactly. Aspen was awesome in the beginning of The Selection. But now he doesn't belong with America. Maybe he can go with Lucy or something. Maxon and America were made for each other. Maxon can be a jerk at times, but I'll always choose him in the end.
Was Maxon, now i'm not sure and am shaky, maybe heading towards aspen. going to read The One, the third book definitely.

I am still team Maxon, Aspen p'd me off at the end. like chill out! she wants a break from the guy who broke her heart! Aspen pushed her to Maxon. Plus Maxon is a real gentleman.

I agree with all of you! I respect everybody's opinion but how you could cheer for Aspen? You have to realize that in the end America will end up with Maxon. If you're still on Team Aspen you are setting yourself up for a sad ending. The only thing Maxon has done that's annoyed me is try out other girls. Except for Celeste the other girls have feelings and even though I don't think Kris could possibly like Maxon as much as America it's not right to mess with her feelings and put America through the heartache. But then I realize that America was kissing Aspen in Maxon's HOUSE and I feel like America kind of deserves what Maxon is doing to her. I don't know if that makes me seem like a horrible person but it's the way I feel so....
I just hope that the book ends the way it should without a surprise ending that just makes everyone mad. Like with Alliegant! If you read that book you would understand my comparison. I just want everyone to be happy. And who knows maybe Aspen will hook up with Kris or something
their relationship was always secret and they couldn't do anything more than kissing really so tell me how they lasted two years?!? and mason said he chose america then kisses Kriss?!? what the heck man!! ughh Aspen needs to get over her, he a made a big mistake. she has made many mistakes but mason always forgives her, even when she reveals the diary he forgives her. whereas Aspen flips when she doesn't want to write him because she needs space. AND!! did they not see what could happen if they got caught?!? yet they still continued to see each other like that OMG!!!
Hahaha ok let me just say I'm so happy I'm not the only person who wishes death on a character I don't like! Yes maybe he'll get killed and Maxon and America will live happily ever after....one can hope at least.

Aspen wants what he can't have and Maxon is conflicted. which I understand a little. having several pretty woman in your palace could cause confliction. and with the fact that america won't let him kiss her he is trying to find something to replace that and he goes to Celeste (ABSOLUTELY FRIGGIN STUPID) and then finds Kriss
The way I see it if you're willing to be with another person without thinking of the person you supposedly care about then you don't love that person. Maxon does everything with the other contestants because of a) his father b) the contest and c) to try and see if America is absolutely the one for him. He's not okay with the way she acts and wants to see if he really is meant to be with her. She's always in his thoughts while Aspen is doing who knows what with other girls. I can't forgive him.
