Questions for Mods
Ilona wrote: "Lisa wrote: "SI'm just guessing here, but it might be related with whether or not the person in question has verified their account :) Ofcourse, thankfully, we've got Mods that are more than happy ..."Ah, yes! That makes sense :)
Hi! I have a couple of questions...What is the correct way to bookmark your "personal challenge"? Can I just copy the link and save it somewhere?
Also, when we update our personal challenge, should we update the original post? Or make a new comment with the update?
Thank you for your help and I apologize if these questions have been asked already.
-Shanna
Hi Shannon,First off no need to apologize at all this is what we are here for. Secondly as far as saving your personal challenge that is completely up to you. I have mine bookmarked so I can easily access it.
If you would rather put the link in a document and copy and paste it when you need it off your desk top you can do it that way as well.
I hope this helps.
As far as Your Personal challenge that is also up to you. I will link mine below to give you an example and check back before I go to bed to see if you have questions. My way doesn't have to be your way. You can update a post or make a new post it truly is whatever works for you.

i hope this helps.
Thanks, Blagica! I appreciate you posting your examples. I have been a part of this group for a while now but I am just starting to get more involved. So far I love it!
I have always done this challenge by entering on my Goodreads home page. I didn’t know there was a whole group devoted to this challenge.Since joining, will my books keep be recorded on my homepage where I originally started?
Hope that makes sense?
Thanks Michele
Hi Michele welcome to the group. Yes once you finish a book and mark it as read it will still be counted on the home page. I hope this answers your question, if not please feel free to ask more and we will try and clarify further.

It will if you have entered the challenge Michele. Joining this group won’t do that.. They are two separate things.
Blagica wrote: "Hi Michele welcome to the group. Yes once you finish a book and mark it as read it will still be counted on the home page. I hope this answers your question, if not please feel free to ask more and..."Thanks for your help,
One more question. I have 7 books on my home page Reading challenge. How can I get them to show up here?
Michele wrote: "One more question. I have 7 books on my home page Reading challenge. How can I get them to show up here?"Unfortunately there’s no direct way, Michele. As I explained in my previous comment, the Goodreads challenge and this group are two separate things. The challenge is an official Goodreads feature. The 2018 Reading Challenge group is one of many groups that were formed by enthusiastic GR members.
What we do is make our personal challenge thread like it is explained in your welcome message when you joined this group. In your thread you post the books you’ve read along with any stats you might find interesting.
Am I making sense? If not or if I misunderstood your question please let me know.
Good luck!
Naomi wrote: "Hi, I'm recently new to this group but I was wondering do members get a chance to have a vote on what book they like to read in the upcoming month then the moderator do a poll to let members vote (..."Hi Naomi and welcome to the group :)
What you described is actually pretty spot on to what we do in this group :)
In the following links you can see the timelines for group read nominations (Group Read Rules and Timelines), as well as the link to the thread for the March group read (March Group Read Nominations).
The theme for March is Pages to Screen so you can look through the comments that have been made and vote for something or nominate something else entirely you'd prefer to read as long as it fits the theme.
Also, if a book you've nominated or voted for doesn't win the nomination for the group read, we offer the opportunity to read it as a Buddy Read instead with other members who might be interested in the same book.
I hope this answers your question :)
Naomi wrote: "Hi, I'm recently new to this group but I was wondering do members get a chance to have a vote on what book they like to read in the upcoming month then the moderator do a poll to let members vote (..."Welcome to the group Naomi! For the exact numbers. (Alsoi everything is explained in the links Lisa posted). Everyone get to nominate books. They must be available physical and as ebook for everyone to have the chance to read it. Also you need to state a connection to the theme. It can be almost any connection you see. For example I can nominate Hunger Games because I want to rewatch the movie.
I write down all your nominations and seconds and then the ones that have been seconded automatically is added to the poll first up to ten. If there's more than ten I check the ratings and the highest gets picked. Same if there's less than ten seconded books I check ratings for the others. Ten books goes to the poll and everyone gets to vote for one each :)
Ok. feeling like a dunce here. I'm setting up my member corner. I wanted to link all the challenges that I'm working on in the first post in a list so that I can easily access and update them but for some reason my links aren't working right. I'm pretty sure I've done this before but I'm at a loss at to what I'm doing wrong. Can someone look at this and tell me if I'm totally off base or is there something I'm missing?First link should be to my Personal Challenge in the 1-50 folder and I've replaced the <> with **
*a href=“https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...” *Kristy's Non-xoxo Challenge*/a*
Hi Kristy! I'm unclear if you've sorted out the problem or not. The tag part with the <> / ** looks right. The problem I'm seeing is that the quotes around the link aren't standard quotes, so the web won't interpret them the same way.Make sure you use standard quotes like this: "

My habit of copy/pasting comes back to bite me.
When you accept a friend request you can choose if it's a "top friend" or not. Is there a way to see who are your top friends and change it if you want?
Susy wrote: "When you accept a friend request you can choose if it's a "top friend" or not. Is there a way to see who are your top friends and change it if you want?"Yes, there's a "edit friends" when you view your Friends list. You can change it there :)
Susy, if you go to your friend list (click on profile picture on top of the page, select friends), you can click on edit friends. You will then see boxes with or without checkmarks that you can (un)check next to each friend's name.
I was looking at the secret santa thread and wondered if there would be any interest in doing a book exchange thread for books we struggle to find.
Hi Dodau, There are other groups on Goodreads that specifically focus on doing book exchanges, and I encourage you to check them out.
This group has decided to stick with its niche, challenges, and only do the one book exchange a year.
Thanks for the question!
Hi mods, can you help out Adeline and remove her thread that she isn’t using?https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
I've been reading a series The Tao of Seneca, I notice the entires do not have the page count... so I'm not getting a progress bar as I read through the book.Is there a way to add it? Have tried the edit metadata section but there is nothing to fill in for these particular books. Any ideas would be awesome.

Thanks for the information :-)

Volume 2 has 305 Pages, and

Hi mods, could you help sunni out removing the challenge page that is not being used?https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...Thx.

Done!

Do you need anymore clarification on this. I just checked the book, and it seems to have a page count now. I will be happy to help you out more if you have any questions.

Kadijah, thanks for the followup. No questions come to mind.
Happy to see the page numbers have been added, I'm liking the stats page https://www.goodreads.com/review/stat...
Hi mods, could you please help out Diane? She has accidentally created 2 threads. This one can be deleted:https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Thank you!
Susy wrote: "Hi mods, could you please help out Diane? She has accidentally created 2 threads. This one can be deleted:https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Thank you!"
Done
Apparently I have two threads but I only want one. How can I see my threads and how can I cancel one of them? thanks!
Irene, these are your Personal challenge threads: Irene 10 books and One down 9 to go
As both of them have comments from other members, you cannot delete the topics yourself. Which one would you like me to delete?
Is there a way to bookmark my post in the Personal Challenge area so I can find it without scrolling through many pages? Thanks!
Kathy wrote: "Is there a way to bookmark my post in the Personal Challenge area so I can find it without scrolling through many pages? Thanks!"
Hi Kathy, you can bookmark the page in your browser. If you tell me which one are you using, I can help you out. Here is the link to your personal challenge: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Michelle that is a great question essentially it is your choice. for me my Members corner is used for keeping track of all the challenges I have decided to join this year while my members challenge is used to review and give thoughts on all the books I have read so far. I will link both of mine as an example if you more questions let us know. Challenge.

Michele wrote: "Why does Goodreads have a username if it uses our real name?"That is a very good question to which I can find no answer on GR. It has been subject to discussion before:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Maybe you should post your question there as well (in the GR feedback group) seeing they were talking about wanting to change GR so as to use your username, but apparently 8 years later they haven’t changed it yet....
Michele wrote: "Why does Goodreads have a username if it uses our real name?"The Username works as your URL like on many websites. Example, my user name is Kadmich, and my Goodreads URL is https://www.goodreads.com/Kadmich. This is if someone wants to bookmark me specifically. Now as far as I know, I am the only Kadijah Michelle on Goodreads, but when I just went by Kadijah...well, there are thousands and I was impossible to find.
I see your name is Michele. That was the name I was born with, so as I'm sure you know, there are millions and millions of us. If it weren't for user names, we would have no individual online presence at all! I noticed your URL is https://www.goodreads.com/Llama888. That is how you are found on Goodreads by other members because with a name like Michele, you know what it's like to just be lost in the crowd along with all the Jennifers and Elizabeths.
Kadijah Michelle wrote: "Michele wrote: "Why does Goodreads have a username if it uses our real name?"The Username works as your URL like on many websites. Example, my user name is Kadmich, and my Goodreads URL is https:..."
Good answer for the why, it is a technical issue.
But for the user the reality is who notices the url? If I see something posted by Cheryl and later want to look for her to see if she really did finish Churchill's 6 volumes on WWII, unless I can find the comment again she will be lost to me forever and I will never know.
I know you, personally, can not change this, but can you pass it along to the Powers That Be? Tell them people are still annoyed about this.
Thanks.

Thanks Susy. I checked it out. The last comment was in 2008, so I felt weird about leaving a new comment.
Michele wrote: "...I checked it out. The last comment was in 2008, so I felt weird about leaving a new comment."In such a case I'll try with a new thread in the hope someone who's working for GR will see it and either answer your question or forward it to the people who can decide about it.
