Mary Pat | 2186 comments 2018 Buddy Reads - Introduction

Buddy Reads are a great way for members to share their thoughts and ideas about the books they read! Here is how they work!

*Nominate a single book for a buddy read by posting the title and the month you want to read it in this introduction thread.

*Nominate a book series for a buddy read by posting the title of the series, the title of the first book in the series and the month you want to start the series in this introduction thread.

*When you see a book nominated that you want to read, post your interest and the title in this introduction thread.

*As long as two or more people are interested in reading the same book in the same month, I will create a thread for discussion. Any one can participate in a buddy read – even if I have not added you to the list of participants yet!

*Book series will start with the first book in the first month, the second book the next month, etc.

*Most buddy reads are scheduled for a month, however, long books can be scheduled for two or three months and even longer for really long books. Book series with longer books can also be scheduled for longer periods of time.

*Each Buddy Reads thread will include a list of participants, the number of pages, and the timeframe. It will also include a reminder about spoilers and a link to this thread for more information.

*Everyone reads at their own pace during a Buddy Read. Because participants can be at different parts of the book at different times, it is extremely important to mark spoilers!!!

* MARK SPOILERS so that the book is not ruined for someone who is not as far along as others. Mark spoilers by placing {spoiler} before the text and {/spoiler} after the text but use the < and > instead of the { and }.

And that is how Buddy Reads work! Please let me know if you have any questions.

D.L. | 1515 comments I am interested In doing a series read of the Alex Cross series by James Patterson (at least the first 3 books) and the Gossip Girl series by Cecily von Ziegesar. I am ready to start both whenever I have a buddy or 2 lined up.

Any takers??

First Book: The Way of Kings

I would love to do any one of them as a buddy read so let me know :)

Scott Flicker | 1191 comments I would be interested in reading one of these series. I haven't read anything in the First Empire Series so that would be my first choice.

Age of Myth and The Way of Kings are on my TBR list. It’ll depend on which group read there’s going to be in March cause I’ll be reading two TBR-old books, 1 nonfiction/work related book and 1 group or buddy read a month. I see that Scott has a preference for the First Empire series. That would be fine for me too.

Mary Pat | 2186 comments Nikki, Scott & Susy - Legends of the Empire series is also on my list so let's do it! We will start in January with Age of Myth! There are six books in the series so we will run through June on this Buddy Read.

Of course you can! I just set up a thread in the December 2017 Buddy Reads folder. (If I can get through some other things on my list I might even join you!)

Is January ok too Nikki? I saw you requested to start in March. That would be ok too for me. How about you Scott and Mary Pat?

message 13: by Mary Pat (new)

Mary Pat | 2186 comments Oops! I missed the March start date! March is fine with me too if that's when everyone would prefer to start the series.

If after the Legends of the Empire series, then yes :)

Ilona | 4698 comments I am not in a hurry, so anytime is good. Looks like the Legends of Empires series has 6 books. Can we plan His Dark Materials for July/August/September or later?

Legends of Empires will start in March, through August, so september, october, november?

Nikki ~ The Nocturnal Bookworm (nyxreadsstuff) I would prefer March just because I already committed to a couple buddy reads in January and February in other groups and I don’t want to over commit but February would be fine too if everyone wants to start a little sooner. One of the 2 I already have planned on February is really really short so starting the series shouldn’t be a big deal.

I actually would prefer March too. I'd forgotten about two extra reads that I planned for February....

All 6 books are not released yet, I just looked it up and the third will actually come out April 18th so if this is done as a buddy read it will actually time out to read it right when it comes out :)

Oh, you're right! The last one won't come out until 2019. I think I will wait then cause I have a very, very bad memory which means I will have to reread the earlier books when I get to the last one.... I'd rather read the series in one go.

I am nit sure, but I would guess that it's best to read His Dark Materials first.

Scott and Mary Pat, are yall still interested in the Legends of the First empire series and if so would March be a good start month so March/April/May/June
or would April be a better start date making it April/May/June/July?
