Jim (jimmaclachlan) We've only had the A/C on a few days this year. Saturday was only 80, but yesterday got up to 90. Today a front is coming through & has knocked the heat back down again.

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Jim, enjoy your heat. I wish I had some. Our current temp is 62 but it feels very raw. It's windy too. We've also had rain today. :(

message 1603: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments No, Joy it warmed up here to ninety degrees today. you don't want it that warm. However, we were at a farm and sat on a screened in porch in the shade and there was a nice breeze blowing and it was pleasant.

message 1604: by Mercurialgem (new)

Mercurialgem | 27 comments No signs of rain all day until real late in the evening and just a few minutes ago it started raining. Thank God because Cali is in a severe drought. I see the message on those monitors that they have on the freeways asking us to save water. Yay Rain!

message 1605: by Jim (last edited Jun 13, 2015 03:58AM) (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Glad you're getting rain. We could really use some. We've had just enough that the weeds are still growing fine. I need to mow the south field this weekend along with the lawn. We're probably going to take the horses out for a ride at the Shelby Trails tomorrow morning, so I need to get most of my chores done today. We haven't been there before, but it looks like a nice place.

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Hope you will both get the rain you need. We have had plenty here! Wish I could send you some. :)

message 1607: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments I sat my comfort out on my patio/garden space this morning and had just enough damp sprinkles to get it wet and now it's in the dryer trying to repair the damage.

message 1608: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Well, Nina, at least you got some needed rain! :)

message 1609: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Yes, Joy. but we aren't the ones who need rain. It has rained here every day but four for the last thirty days and supposed to be raining for the next several days. Only worry about here is flooding but not like TX and Oklahoma. I even went walking under sprinkles this morning. I am going to email you some shots of my garden.

message 1610: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Nina, I enjoyed your pictures.

message 1611: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments So far we've had five inches or more of rain in the last two days. For a change the sun is just now shining. Today taking a walk a pine tree's needles brushed across my eye even under my glasses and scratched my eyeball. OUCH!

message 1612: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Nina, I hope your eye is OK. I once tried on a pair of sunglasses in a store and poked myself in the eye with the ear-piece. I had to go to the eye doctor right away because the white area in my eye was all bloodshot. My eye was OK but, coincidentally, that's when I found out I had cataracts and shortly afterwards I had cataract procedures done. Funny how one thing happens to lead to another.

message 1613: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Seems as if you could have spared about half that rain for us, Nina. Wish you had. We need it badly. Weeds are the only thing growing & I have to water before I can even pull them. Watering takes up so much time.

message 1614: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Can't believe morr rain last night and although none so far today, it is clouding up and I guess we'll have more soon. At least I hardly have to water. Mostly I am emptying pots of water. We are supposed to have a bumper crop of mosquitoes. Ugn!

message 1615: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We got a teaser of rain, a few sprinkles, so I had to water again tonight. Ugh. I mowed Speedy's paddock because only the weeds are growing. Marg is starting to let him out into the field to graze in the afternoons with the goats.

The good news is the blackberries are in. We got almost 3 quarts of them off our one bush that we planted a few years ago. This is the first year because I covered it with netting so the birds didn't get them first. Made picking them a bit of a pain, but we managed. We're going to have blackberry shortcake tonight for dessert.
:)

Can I have some? :)

message 1617: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Oh, my mouth is watering at the thought of Blackberry shortcake/especially home grown blackberries. Yummm.

message 1618: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We're finally getting some rain! 3/4" at home already. Yay!!!

We never did eat dessert last night. Maybe tonight.

message 1619: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Enjoy your rain, Jim, ... and your dessert. :)

message 1620: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We're getting more rain from the remnants of Bill. We got over an inch in under 30 minutes at one point, but otherwise it's just been drippy. We're still under 2" & had some drying yesterday. We REALLY needed it & it's been about perfect for us.

Nina, did you get totally washed out?

The blackberries weren't as good as strawberry shortcake. I'd forgotten how much I dislike all the seeds. Not bad, but not my favorite.

message 1621: by Nina (last edited Jun 20, 2015 09:31AM) (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Jim, The flooding was in the eastern part of MO. We had lots of rain but no flooding. It rained mostly at night and was actually welcomed; the grass becomes a brilliant green and the pansis are still blooming yet, this week might prove to be the end of that. It is predicted to be 95 degrees this afternoon. Not a fun day/miserably hot and a funeral of a dear friend to attend. I love blackberries, seeds and all, but my favorite, too, is strawberry shortcake.

message 1622: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments We finally have a sunny day here. Temps are in the 70s and there's a good breeze. Good weather for gardening or just cleaning up the yard.

message 1623: by Nina (last edited Jun 21, 2015 08:37AM) (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Lucky you. We are probably the hottest in the country this week/90's plus. Not good for anything outside except I was able to take an early morning walk when the sun was behind the clouds.

message 1624: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Stay cool, Nina!

message 1625: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Last night's storm with lots of pouring rain, lightening and thunder downed lots of tree limbs which were viewed by me today as we travelled through town. Rain rain go away but do come again another day/preferably in July or August.

message 1626: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) It came through here this evening & knocked out power for the road. Not us since the main pole is by our barn & we have our own circuit. (It pays to be nice to the utility men!)

message 1627: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments I hate to see trees harmed by a storm. We're expecting heavy rain here. I don't think the blossoms on my geraniums do well in a heavy rain. They seem to rot faster from the wetness.

message 1628: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Ten thousand homes lost their power here on Friday.

message 1629: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Nina wrote: "Ten thousand homes lost their power here on Friday."

I wonder how many of those homes have automatic electric generators.

message 1630: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments I would say not many but don't really know. We didn't have one in the past when our power was frequently out. Once about fourteen years ago we had a terrible ice storm and people were without power for over ten days/we were only without it for three.

message 1631: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I just got back in from fixing the southern fence. It had a tree blown down across it from the storm last night. Not a big deal.

Our neighbors all have generators (not automatic) & most had theirs going for several hours last night. The biggest power flicker we had was when they tried to reset the transformer for the road which is at the end of our driveway. It wouldn't work, so they had to get a truck out & replace it, but they had a lot of work to keep them busy.

message 1632: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments I don't envy the jobs of those utility men!

message 1633: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments I resd it wrong. It wasn't 10.000 homes that lost their power; rather it was 100,000.

message 1634: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments WOW!

message 1635: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Looks like a nice day here. The sun is shining. Our current temp is 70 but it's supposed to go up to 80. Hope all is well with everyone.

message 1636: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We keep getting rain every day. I think our mushrooms are going to have mold problems soon.
;)

message 1637: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Jim, hope you'll get some sunshine soon.

message 1638: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Just returned from cool Wisconsin back to almost 100 degrees in Ks; however, we made the 1,300 trip driven by my 89 year old husband with no problems except for arrivng back home tired, but safe. Trying to catch up now with goodread notifications. Thanks to everyone for posting.

And I guess it has rained every day last week. Not now/hot and dry so back to watering.

message 1640: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Glad the trip went well, Nina.

message 1641: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Glad to see you back and safe, Nina. It's hot and humid here and I am wilting.

message 1642: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We have storms ripping through here occasionally. Yesterday morning we got another 1.5" rain with lots of lightening. More showers last night but they didn't amount to much up our way. Further south they had a tornado warning.

For the next 2 days we're supposed to get the same sort of storms - fast to blow up & over, spotty. In between times, the sun comes out very strongly. Upper 80's with humidity that high. Ugh. Makes us want to get a machete out to chop through the air. Can't move without sweating & the bugs are awful.

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Jim, I hope your weather improves soon.

message 1644: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) It's supposed to, but will get hot - around 90 from Wed on while the kids are here. Yuck. No more or not many storms, though.

message 1645: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments It's still warm and sticky here. But the sun is shining. I'm trying to look on the "bright" side. :)

message 1646: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Very hot here in the upper 90's. July in KS is not pleasant; at least not this week. Hope cool air is coming soon. RAIn RAIn don't go away.

message 1647: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Stay cool, Nina.

message 1648: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) A big storm came through as I was coming home from work & Marg from her physical. We got another inch of rain in about 30 minutes with a lot of strong winds, but it was gone quickly. Still, there isn't anywhere for all this water to go. Normally well drained areas have standing water in them now. I've never had a puddle next to my garden, but it was over an inch deep there. Marg said there was a puddle in the feed room all the way back near the hay & on the feed table. That means the wind came in through the 6'x7' door hard enough to blow 12' across & land on top of a 30" tall table. Pretty fierce.

message 1649: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments That weather is what I heard was here last week. I hope our heat doesn't make it to you next week.

message 1650: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Jim, "pretty fierce" is right! WOW!
