Nina | 6069 comments Even I wouldn't want 55 for dinner but it was all her family and I think they brought food. We had a nice Easter dinner at my daughter's and she fed her three grandchildren first and after they left for the other grandparent's home that left just ten of us.

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Nina, it's nice that you're near enough to your daughter for a day visit.

Nina | 6069 comments Bad night last night. My husband hemoragging and losing almost half pint of blood and shaking and feeling very cold. My son in law came by and we got him to the emergency. He was losing blood pressure and his heart was irregular and finally they got him under control by about three AM this morning. He is in ICU with all kinds of tubes connected and on oxygeon and seems to be stable when I last saw him. Hope the worst is over but he'll be in the hospital for a few more days. I thank God I got him in there in time. For a while it was touch and go. This message is from a very tired and worrisome friend. nina

message 1454: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) So sorry, Nina! What caused it?!!! Hang in there.

message 1455: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Our weather today was 'interesting'. Nice & warm, about 70. We've had over 3" of rain, mostly in 2 downpours. The one this morning was almost 2" in under an hour. It washed over the swale in the lane & washed a groove in part of it. I got home & fixed it just in time for another one. This was only an inch, but came as fast & was accompanied by large grape sized hail. The swale held & never over flowed, so no more damage to the lane, thankfully.

message 1456: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments It was too hot here today/eighty four degrees and hopefully we'll get some rain tomorrow. I am envious of your downpours.

Oh, Nina, what an awful experience! I hope you're husband will be OK.

message 1458: by Werner (new)

Werner Nina, what Joy said! My prayers are with him, and you too. Keep us posted.

message 1459: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments I hope we'll hear from Nina soon. I know we are all worrying about her and her husband. Let's all say a lot of prayers for his recovery!

message 1460: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Thanks for the wishes and prayers. I talked to him early this morning and he says he is better/just weak but most of his problems seem under control/blood pressure back up from dangerous level and heart beating regularly. I didn't know that a blood infection went to your heart. Scarey. Oh well, I'm off to see for myself soon with a daughter to check for myself that he really is better. They were predicting hail and tornados and he called me to say I shouldn't come to the hospital but it looks OK now so we are going. Wish us luck.

message 1461: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) More storms tonight. It got up to 77 degrees, lots of thunder & lightening, but only about 3/8" of rain. Barely drips & then sheets come down for a minute or two. Besides getting the fish pump cleaned & the horses & goats fed, I didn't get anything done outside tonight.

message 1462: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Nina, I hope your husband will be able to come home soon.

message 1463: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Violent storms expected tonight, but they held off long enough for me to get some yard work done. Unfortunately, Pip used the time to chase a skunk under one of the brush piles. I'm not sure if getting sprayed twice in a week is a record, but I sure hope he's not trying for one.

A flat of marigolds planted around the trees in the front yard & the other Purple Martin house up since they finally decided to drop in. The forsythia & daffodils are fading to green & the redbuds are popping out. The magnolia & tulips are in bloom, too. It's wet, wet, wet, but super green & warm. We hit 80 today!

message 1464: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments After eighty degrees days and now it is going down to thirty eight and there is a very cold wind blowing out of the north. That is the bad news. The good news is that I am bringing my husband home from the hospital tomorrow. He can stand and walk a bit with no oxygen and blood prssure is back to normal and after the cat scan no unseen problems. I am graterful for your prayers. He needed them. Now I can sleep and eat again.

message 1465: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Nina, I'm so glad to hear the good news about your husband.

Jim and Nina, I'm sorry to hear about your bad weather. We had a gloomy day here weather-wise. I desperately need some nice spring weather here!

message 1466: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Thanks for your good wishes. I truly believe with all that was wrong it was the excellent care and prayers that got him through this. Now, I'll pray for good weather to return.

message 1467: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Glad you're getting your husband back, Nina. We're getting chillier, but not as cold as you. Low 40's tonight & only into the 60's today. Sure feels colder after yesterday.

message 1468: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Another gloomy day here...

message 1469: by Werner (new)

Werner Nina, so glad to hear the good news about your husband! Thanks for letting us know.

message 1470: by Nina (last edited Apr 21, 2015 01:35PM) (new)

Nina | 6069 comments As far as weather is concerned it is quite nice here/in the upper sixties in the daytime and forties at night, still. But, what a surprise to go out near our front walk and find my blue salvia that was planted last summer is blooming. Even though it is an annual and also I have never before had summer annuals bloom in April. Oh well, a pleasant surprise.

message 1471: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Those blossoms seem like miracles at this point!

message 1472: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments I don't think anyone can compare with Fred Astair's graceful movements and I too love to watch him and Ginger do their thing. I sometimes think they are like birds in flight.

message 1473: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments "Birds in flight". Well said, Nina.

message 1474: by Nina (last edited Apr 26, 2015 11:52AM) (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Today I have a bunch of annuals waiting on my back patio for the weather to warm up this afternoon so I can plant them. I had to go to four different nurseries yesterday to find pansies. They were never advertised and I thought it must have been to cool to plant them and then I find the nurseries are all sold out. Finally, found some that were being sold at a dollar a pack just to get rid of them. My husband said he spent three hundred dollars on gas for the Pansy hunt. He does tell a white lie when it suits him.

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Nina, where do you get all that energy? :)

message 1476: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Joy, my energy comes and goes. I take advantage when it comes.

message 1477: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Nina, I know what you mean. I think we get energy when we're motivated. You really wanted those pansies! LOL

message 1478: by Nina (last edited Apr 26, 2015 04:54PM) (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Joy, I have hanging baskets on my back fence that I always plant pansies in and yes, I couldn't believe the nurseries were all sold out and Home Depot too without ever advertising them. My husband would agree I really wanted them. Did I mention all the pansieis were yellow with the exception of one purple? Oh I didn't care what color they were and now they look cheerful from the inside of my house as I am looking out.

message 1479: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Nina, "cheerful" is a good word to describe pansies, with their cute little "faces"!

message 1480: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We don't get pansies any more in our hanging baskets. Instead, we get Johnny-Jump-Ups (Viola cornuta, Viola tricolor). Same species, but they're sometimes called 'Wild Pansies' since the bigger blooms were bred from them. They have much smaller flowers than pansies, but they flower more heavily and are more heat-resistant. We usually don't take ours down until October & we put them up several weeks ago. We had to bring them in several times in the past week. Twice we had frost & we thought bad storms were going through Saturday, but they went south of us. Down near Lexington they got some baseball sized hail.

message 1481: by Joy H., Group Founder (last edited Apr 27, 2015 06:53AM) (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments We have ONE little hyacinth flower in the back yard. (poor thing) It's our first sign of real spring. Soon the iris will make their appearance (June?). You can always depend on the iris. I notice that our Rhodies took a beating this winter. As we drive through the neighborhoods, I notice a lot of shrubs that seem to have taken a beating. I'll know more when they really are supposed to start coming to life. We DO see the yellow forsythias coming into bloom all around town. Good to see them!

message 1482: by Nina (last edited Apr 27, 2015 06:51PM) (new)

Nina | 6069 comments I love the violas but didn't get them soon enough this year. I have three small pots that hang on my fence and they look so "cute" in those but today I put in begonias; better those than none.

message 1483: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Begonias are great. You can always depend on them for lovely blooms.

message 1484: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Yes, Joy begonias are my little soldeir flowers/they stand firm under all sorts of weather conditions. i got three lovely daylillies today at the nursery/yellow, lavendar and apricot colors. Tired tonight from all the planting but the garden is looking good and the effort is so worth the reward.

message 1485: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Nina, I so admire your ambition! I'm sure you will be rewarded with many beautiful flowers.

message 1486: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Had my birthday lunch at our Art Gallery Museum with my husband and a daughter. It is a beautiful setting with marble columns and a central fountain and wonderful, My favorite, key lime pie. Lots of nice phone calls from far flung relatives makes the day special and perfect weather around sixty eight degrees is just what God ordered for me.

message 1487: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Nina, I'm glad to hear that you had a beautiful birthday. I thought of you often during the day. Happy birthday and many more!

message 1488: by Werner (new)

Werner Nina, what Joy said!

message 1489: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Thanks, aren't I lucky to be alive and verticle at 88 years?

message 1490: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments You certainly are, Nina. You're amazing!

message 1491: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments I had a funny happy birthday message from a twenty seven year old granddaughter who said she couldn't believe I was 88 when I look like I'm seventy. I had to laugh at that.

LOL! That IS funny, Nina. The perspective of young people is so different from ours.

PS-One thing young people have yet to experience is watching the wrinkles spread as they age. I remember looking in the mirror and wondering when they would start. It's like watching the hands of a clock. They move imperceptibly.

(Evidently the word can be imperceptively or imperceptibly.)(with a v or b) Now I'm wondering which is preferred.)

message 1493: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) LOL! Pretty good!

message 1494: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments perspective / perceptive - I just noticed how alike the words look. I'm getting confused just LOOKING at them. LOL

Life is too short to worry about trying to figure it out, Joy.
;)

message 1496: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments It doesn't matter how it is spelled as I got the message and I suppose we could have been like that at age twenty seven.

message 1497: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments I remember being shocked when a salesperson called me "M'am". I was probably in my 20's, still thinking I was a child. LOL When I heard "Ma'm" I figured I must look mature. LOL

message 1498: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments That reminds me of my husband saying he never felt older until they started calling him "Sir."

Jim, I worry about everything. :)

Nina | 6069 comments Joy, great quote and it doesn't pertain to me as I, too, seem to have worries galore. And never mind the saying that nothing you worry about never happens. NOT>in my case.
