Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments The snowflakes are getting bigger here in northern NYS! Looks like they will accumulate. I hope they won't be higher than our little Maltese dog! (12:17 PM)

message 1152: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Joy, HOpe you have enough provisions to keep you warm and not hungry and that you retain power and your little dog isn't up to his head in snow. Take Care, thinking of you and wishing you and your loved ones well.

message 1153: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Thank you, Nina. We're OK here. I don't plan on going out anywhere! I don't know yet how many inches of snow we have because I've been sitting in my recliner all afternoon keeping my mind off the storm by reading, watching a movie, and playing FunTrivia. :)
Thank you for your good wishes.

message 1154: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Hard to believe but our temp here was seventy one. Broke record. Cold weather is coming soon but we had such a fun day walking in the sunshine of an almost spring like afternoon.

message 1155: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We started at 14 today & reached 34, but tomorrow is supposed to hit 40.

message 1156: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Yesterday reached seventy three/fun to just walk around the shopping areas and soak up the sunshine. And today is windy and will only reach forty. Nice while the good weather lasted.

message 1157: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We started out at 35 this morning & it's supposed to get into the low 40's. Unfortunately, so are the wind gusts.

message 1158: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments It was below zero F here last night. Right now the temp is 19°F, according to the weather service: http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick....
My own remote thermometer says 27.1 F. I think the Glens Falls airport (where the weather service picks up its info) is down in a valley where it's cooler. Our readings are usually higher.

We'll be getting more snow tonight "3 to 5 inches possible".

message 1159: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Oh, Joy no fun in Snowville. Stay warm with your puppy

message 1160: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Thank you, Nina. I'm sitting in my recliner under my electric blanket, nice and warm. Hate to get up. :)

message 1161: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Jim, I hope you get some of our seventy degree waather. Can you believe it might snow here on Sunday that in the same week as Spring...Figures/that's KS.

message 1162: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We're not getting it, Nina. It's not supposed to be bad today, but tomorrow we're the battlefield for 3 systems. Who will win the north or the south system? Will we get rain, ice, or snow? How long before the system coming in from the west pushes them out?

The only thing that is certain is next week is going to be cold.
:(

message 1163: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments It's been below zero or near zero degrees here! I feel sorry when I have to let the dog out. He comes back fast enough! LOL Sometimes I put a little doggie-coat on him. :)

message 1164: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Tomorrow is a welcome month to me as I think well, the following month is Spring/not winter. I feel that way also when it is August here as the next month is September and that means Autumn and no more hot summer months. It isn't always unbearable heat here in the summer but it can be.

message 1165: by Joy H., Group Founder (last edited Jan 31, 2015 03:32PM) (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Nina, at this point, spring seems very far away!

However, there's a song with the words: "You Can Never Hold Back Spring".

SEE THE LYRICS AT: http://www.tomwaits.com/songs/song/27...

Hear the words & see the lyrics at YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vT5xvG...
(It takes a few seconds to start.)
-----------------------------------------------
THE WORDS:
You Can Never Hold Back Spring
You can never hold back spring
you can be sure
I will never stop believing
the blushing rose that will climb
spring ahead or fall behind
winter dreams the same dream every time
baby you can never hold back spring

even though you've lost your way
the world is dreaming
dreaming of spring
so close your eyes
open your heart
to the one who's dreaming of you
you can never hold back spring
remember everything that spring can bring
baby you can never hold back spring
---------------------------------------------

message 1166: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Yes, I'll keep those thoughts, Joy; especially when it was six degrees this morning. In spite of that we brought a bit of spring into our own house/bought a gardenia at Ikea this morning and it is looking quite lovely in the living room next to the south window.

message 1167: by Werner (new)

Werner It's been snowing heavily here most of the day (and still is), and our temperature has dropped steadily since morning; it's now 19 degrees at last report. Bluefield College closed at 2:00 (when I would normally have started work), so I'm unexpectedly home this evening.

message 1168: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Enjoy the time off, if not the shoveling, Werner. How much do you have & how much are you supposed to get?

It's cold here & we're not supposed to get any snow. We've had a bit & it's sticking, but I don't think it will be a problem. This morning was cold, but luckily all the rain had dried up before it went below freezing. No black ice.

message 1169: by Werner (new)

Werner Barb says they were predicting 1-3 inches. There's still supposedly less than an inch of accumulation, but it already appeared to me to be more than that around 2:00 this afternoon. Glad you folks got off as easily as you did!

message 1170: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Looks to me that we had over a foot of snow here by the end of the day (Monday, 2/1/15). It snowed all day long.

Eddie usually snowblows the driveway but this was too much for him with his bronchitis & COPD. Even clearing all that snow off the car was too hard for him. He loses his breath. I cleared the car once and swept a path for Romeo, but I was feeling grippy myself.

We called a man who came with a plow. He also shoveled a path to the door and a path for the dog in the yard. I was panicky all day as the snow kept coming down. I felt snowed in. I started worrying about running out of food but of course there's always eggs. :) My remote thermometer reads 3.6 degrees F. They predict a low of -8F tonight. This is brutal!

message 1171: by Werner (new)

Werner Hang in there, and stay warm, Joy!

message 1172: by Joy H., Group Founder (last edited Feb 02, 2015 06:02PM) (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Oh, yes, Werner. I'm under my electric blanket right now! :) Thanks.

message 1173: by Nina (last edited Feb 02, 2015 07:16PM) (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Joy, Glad you had help with the driveway. Just saw on TV a man in WI had a heart attack after shoveling. Not surprising, unfortunately. I am so sorry you have this troubling weather. We've had it here but not so far this year. Cold today, six degrees when my husband went out for the paper and to feed the birds and they are predicting 63 degrees on Saturday. Didn't I say nowhere has crazier weather.

message 1174: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Yes, Nina, your weather can't make up its mind. :)

message 1175: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments 2/3/15 - 7:15 AM ET
It's FRIGID here! The National Weather Service online says it's -24°F / -31°C here in Glens Fall, NY.
http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick....
Our remote thermometer readings are -17F and -15.9F. Yes, that MINUS!

message 1176: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Yuck! That's cold! We're in the mid 20's too, but on the right side of 0, thankfully.

message 1177: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments The dog is still sleeping. I hate putting him outside at these temps. I have a little coat for him but I doubt if it helps much.

message 1178: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Oh Joy, such a miserable situation and especially for the dog. All I can say is the old saying, "This too will pass." Hopefully in the not too distant future. Stay warm as you can. And I think the little doggie coats do help.

message 1179: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Nina, thanks for the encouragement. Yes, I know the snow will eventually melt away. It always does. :)

message 1180: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Not quite as cold here this morning. Predicting snow later. We'll see. Tried to get shopping done yesterday. Are you still freezing up north, Joy?

message 1181: by Joy H., Group Founder (last edited Feb 04, 2015 09:09AM) (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Nina, our current temp reads 26 degrees F on our remote thermometer, which gives us the temp outside our house. I wish it would at least go above freezing!

message 1182: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) At least you're on the right side of 0, Joy!

message 1183: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Jim wrote: "At least you're on the right side of 0, Joy!"

Jim, you are an optimist! I'll try to be that way... if I can. :)

message 1184: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments It's snowing, it's snowing but the old man isn't snoring. He is trying to fix my daughter's broken lamp.

message 1185: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Remember when I said we had crazy weather/example/it is going to be zero in the morning/Thursday and on Saturday/sixty degrees and in the fifties on Sunday. Talk about living in a roller coaster climate...

message 1186: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments It's currently 25.9F on my remote thermometer. That's better than the single digits!

message 1187: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We're on the roller coaster, too. Yesterday afternoon I was riding in 50 degree weather. This morning it is 21 with some snow & supposed to only get to the mid 20's today. By Saturday we're supposed to hit 50 again. I hate that. Can't get used to anything.

message 1188: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments I'd LOVE to see some 50 degree weather! Our current temp is 17.6 F.

message 1189: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Very cold this morning/five degrees when I want out to get the paper but the weatherman tells us this cold weather will just be a memory come the weekend. Hope it works that way for you Jim. We are expecting sixty on Saturday and fifty something on Sunday and looks like mostly fifites or upper forties next week. Maybe the worst is over but almost afraid to say that. Hope your weather improves greatly joy. It's not pleasant to say the least for you all.

message 1190: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Nina, those higher temps must seem like spring to you! Ah, spring!

message 1191: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments It will really feel like spring if the predicted temp actually reaches 68 degress on Saturday. Sometimes this happens here in Feb. Spring never stays long/mostly just a day or two but it's a welcome preview of what's to come.

message 1192: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We're supposed to get up into the 40's today although it was only 12 when I left the house this morning & Marg said it was 10 when she got up. It's still cold, only 26. Tomorrow is supposed to be in the 50's.

message 1193: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments It is after four o'clock here and the temps are falling down to sixty one/reached sixty eight earlier, I believe. We'll take it. Everyone smiling at the library this afternoon. Weather like this brings out the best of us. Hope it is heading your way Jim and hope the worst is over up your way, Joy.

message 1194: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We got over 50 here today, so I spent a lot of time outside. Did some work on my old pickup, took a ride on Chip, & did some other chores like transferring more hay from one barn to the other. I also had to weld the poor hay feeder. All the playing broke one of the brace welds. I hate welding thin, galvanized metal pipe with a stick welder. I managed it but again thought about how nice it would be to have a MIG welder. I probably wouldn't use it enough to justify the cost, though.

message 1195: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments We're expecting more snow this weekend. When will it end?

message 1196: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Oh, I hate to write about our Kansas City weather today to you snowbounders but I can't help it. Today the grocery store doors were wide open welcoming us inside; although, who would want to go inside when the temps are 67 and sun is shining down and people are in open air convertibles and running with their dogs in shirt sleeves and shorts. It was so warm driving in our car we had to put the windows down. However, we could find ourselves just like you, Joy in the days to come. Here, you never know what's in store until you get up in the morning.

message 1197: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We had a nice-ish day. It was in the low 50's, but without any sun & the cold front had a strong, cold wind blowing. It felt colder than it really was. I spent a lot of time outside, though. Just got back in from a ride around the place with Marg. She rode Speedy & I was, of course, on The Fat Man, Chip. The ground was soft, the wind blowing, so he was actually up on his toes at times. We raced Pip up a couple of hills & generally had a lot of fun.

message 1198: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments 14.7 DEGREES HERE AND SNOWING!

Enjoy your balmy weather and count your blessings. :)

message 1199: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Sounds like a good day, Jim. I am relieved we've had such a small amount of nnow so far. Mostly, an inch or two at a time and adds up to eight inches all together this winter. Good for my daughter with the horses as she is still recovering from the shoulder surgery and doesn't need extra work.

message 1200: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Oh Joy, we have had that kind of weather and it's NOT FUN.
