Nina | 6069 comments Ouch! Sorry. Makes you hurt all over. Do you ever use Aspercream?

message 1102: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Take Care, Jim and rest your back.

message 1103: by Werner (new)

Werner Jim, sorry about your back trouble; hope it clears up very soon! Since I have occasional issues with my back, I can totally relate. :-(

message 1104: by Joy H., Group Founder (last edited Jan 21, 2015 03:47AM) (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Jim, I hope your back will get better soon. We do tend to overdo things and our backs don't like that. :) (e.g., picking up a heavy (and fairly large) ceramic Christmas tree to put it away in its box. Ouch.)

message 1105: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Thanks. It's sitting that bothers it the most & guess what I do for a living? sigh. I'll probably go to the chiropractor today. I haven't been in 5 years or so. My back is usually pretty good, but I do need to get it tuned up occasionally.

message 1106: by Joy H., Group Founder (last edited Jan 21, 2015 06:11AM) (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments The only way I can sit comfortably for a long time, is in a recliner. Otherwise my back gets tired.

Jim, put a recliner in your office at work. LOL

Of course, it works with a laptop but not with a large computer. I stretch a board across the arms of the recliner and then I put my laptop on the board so that my legs aren't being affected by the weight of the laptop. Of course, at the same time, my legs are resting on the recliner leg-support, like an ottoman.

Then when I get drowsy, I go all the way back and sleep. LOL

message 1107: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Jim, Hope you are relieved soon. Our whole existence remains tired when our back hurts. You have my sympathy. I once had exploratory back surgery down my spine so I know of what I speak.

message 1108: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments I hope the weather cooperates and you don't have to struggle with that.

message 1109: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Actually, sitting in a recliner hurts more than sitting up straight or standing. It's getting better. The pain has moved up my back & isn't as sharp. We took a ride tonight & it didn't bother me at all, but sitting in the chair can be iffy.

message 1110: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Jim, glad to hear that things are improving.

message 1111: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Good sign that the back is better.

message 1112: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Yeah, next week degrees are predicted in the fifties and perhaps one day of sixty seven but he says there'll be a few days of reckoning comeing up in Feb. and maybe snow. This is on record for warmest and driest winter in a very long time. But, I have my fingers crossed.

message 1113: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments And I haven't forgotten the record lows a couple of weeks ago. Queer weather patterns but glad I don't live near the Yellowstone River with it's dreadful oil spill covering it.

message 1114: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We're in for slop tonight - rain changing to snow, although we're not supposed to get much. The worst should be south & east of us. As much as I hate the slop, we need to keep the water table up.

message 1115: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Yes, somehow we need rain and we aren't getting any, so far. Or snow. strange winter.

message 1116: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Even though the weather station says it isn't terribly cold, why does it feel that way? We are to go up the block to visit a neighbor and think we'll drive. So much for winter weather.

message 1117: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Nina, be sure to dress for the weather. I like to bundle up with several layers.

message 1118: by Jim (last edited Jan 23, 2015 03:44PM) (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) It's snowing like crazy here right now. I looked out at it & saw the hay rack was flipped completely over. I think it was Chip that did it even though I'd prefer to blame it on Indy. I don't think he has the ability to do it, though.

You might be able to see it here:

message 1119: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Jim, I wouldn't be able to tell an upright hay rack from an upside-down one. But thanks for the photo! Why would a horse flip it over?

message 1120: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Jim, I am not familiar with hay racks so don't know if the picture shows before or after it turns over.

message 1121: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) It's upside down in the photo. I guess he flipped it to get more hay out of it. Since it was empty, that didn't work so well, but I guess it was fun to play with.

Here's a picture of it upright. The hay goes into the top & any bits that fall are caught in the tub below.

message 1122: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Ah, Jim, that's more like it! Thanks for showing us the upright hay rack and explaining about it. Yes, it seems to make sense that the horse was trying to get more hay out of it.

message 1123: by Jim (last edited Jan 24, 2015 04:59AM) (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Our 'probably no snow to just a dusting' turned into almost 4". It's 26 now, but supposed to go up to 40 today. The ground wasn't frozen, so I guess it will melt quickly, but it will be sloppy out. Here are some pics:

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Great photos, Jim. That one with the cardinal is priceless! I love the one with the "lonely" horse. Very pretty scenes too! THANKS for showing them to us.

message 1125: by Werner (last edited Jan 24, 2015 06:39AM) (new)

Werner The snow moved in here too, starting last night (if not earlier --both Tazewell and Mercer counties dismissed school two hours early yesterday). It's still coming down thick and fast, but the accumulation still isn't anywhere near what it is at Jim's place (yet).

Jim, I echo Joy's thanks for the beautiful photos!

message 1126: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments They say we have a 30% chance of snow here. We've had a few sprinkles, but that's all so far. I don't envy you guys! But I'm sure we'll get our own sooner or later! Our present temp is 24°F. In any case, ENJOY THE WEEKEND!

message 1127: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Glad you liked them. I added a few more, including one of the horses eating out of the hay rack.

I hope you don't get hit with too much, Werner. Looks like it will be changing to rain for a lot of folks. They might not be so bad, but my family in MD looks like they'll be right on the edge while those further up in RI will get rain. Nasty mix.

message 1128: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Thanks for the additional pics, Jim. You have a beautiful spot there.

message 1129: by Werner (new)

Werner Thanks, Jim. Our snow seems to have stopped for now.

message 1130: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We never got close to 40 today, but most of the snow melted anyway. The high was only 36, but the sun was bright & the ground wasn't frozen so now we have MUD. Yuck.

Yes, that picture makes sense.

message 1132: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments In the fifties today and nice breeze/not a cold winter this week and next week more of the same excpet supposed to hit sixty three on Wednesday. We'll see. Maybe it will come your way, Jim.

message 1134: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Mud is not fun with horses and men.

message 1135: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments No snow/but rain almost sleet and not a plesant day all around.

message 1136: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Nina, keep thinking of the song with the lyrics: "The Sun'll Come out Tomorrow"!

message 1137: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Can you believe the sun is supposed to shine tomorrow with a temp of sixty three/then cold will follow. Oh make hay while the sun shines as the saying goes.

message 1138: by Nina (last edited Jan 26, 2015 09:43AM) (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Today is sixty. And sunny and the birds are flocking to the fedders earlier than usual. Now where are the robins?

message 1139: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) It's about at freezing & I saw quite a few robins rummaging around during lunch.

message 1140: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments It's 17 degrees here at 2:00 PM. I hear that there's a blizzard coming our way.

message 1141: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Oh, Joy hope it's not too bad. I will say some prayers for you. And Poor robins. Hope they don't freeze.

message 1142: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Thank you, Nina. I'll post about the blizzard when and if it arrives.

message 1143: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) God luck, Joy. Sounds like the coast is going to get the worst. I hope you don't get the 2' they're calling for.

Our high today was a very brief peek at 31 degrees, otherwise upper 20's. I think that's the trend for a while. Bits of snow, but not much.

message 1144: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Thank you, Jim. We can only wait and see how it turns out. Here's the forecast for Glens Falls online: http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick....

Nina | 6069 comments My granddaughter and family live in CT and she teaches at U of New Haven I am concerned about them.

message 1146: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments So far, as of 8:32 AM, there's no sign of snow here in Glens Falls.

message 1147: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We got about 1/2" & they cancelled school in our county. Not sure why. The roads weren't that bad. I think they expected more or maybe there was a problem getting the lots & sidewalks cleared. Marg is happy to have the day off.

message 1148: by Jen (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 182 comments Awe, I hope that Marg enjoys the day off!

message 1149: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments No snow here yet at 10:20 AM. Marg, ENJOY YOUR DAY OFF!

message 1150: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments The snow has started here. It's very light so far with tiny flakes. (11:11 AM)
