Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Jim, it doesn't sound like good weather to me. Hope the fronts meet somewhere far away from you!

message 1052: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Jim, releif might be on the way east as our predicted next week's weekend weather is to be in the fifties. Hope their right...

message 1053: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Me, too!

message 1054: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments False alarm. Instead of predicting 50 degrees temps next weekend it is now down to thirty five/better tnan single digits but why get our hopes up?

message 1055: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments The sun is out here. Temp is 19°F.

message 1056: by Nina (last edited Jan 10, 2015 12:26PM) (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Just vertured out for a walk/temp in sun said 36 degrees but with the cold wind from the northwest it felt more like six degrees. We aren't used to this long of a cold cold spell. But, you all in the east have it much worse so I shouldn't complain and just go make chili.

message 1057: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We're 24 right now. A breeze has come up & it's cold.

message 1058: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments As I said, "Time for chili."

message 1059: by Werner (new)

Werner Here in the Virginia mountains, we're still in the deep freeze. Our outside temperature about half an hour ago was only three degrees above zero. (And that's just a straight thermometer reading; I don't know what it would be if the wind chill were factored in!)

message 1060: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Temp here is 7°F. http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick....
It says we will get a few inches of snow tomorrow. Thank goodness for my electric blanket!

message 1061: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We were 11 degrees this morning & it's suddenly 42 as that big warm front pushes up from the south. This will be causing snow & freezing rain, hopefully just to the north of us.

message 1062: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments I think our weather is headed East according to the National Weather report so help is on the way/our temp today is 40 degrees. Take Care.

message 1063: by Werner (new)

Werner Thanks for the encouraging news, Nina. (In the Northern Hemisphere, prevailing winds tend to blow from west to east, so a movement of weather patterns from west to east tends to be the usual scenario.)

message 1064: by Nina (last edited Jan 11, 2015 02:05PM) (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Werner, speaking of winds direction, what we look forward to here, usually in Februray, is the Chinook wind that travels from the Rockies across the KS plains and then back again to CO and when it comes the second time, it brings us warm air and temps sometimes in the seventies. It might be below freezing before or after but still we relish those mountain back winds.

message 1065: by Werner (new)

Werner That sounds well worth looking forward to, Nina!

message 1066: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) It stayed above freezing all night, if barely. It's 34 this morning & still raining on & off. No wind, thankfully. Salt trucks were out, but I didn't see them putting anything down on the roads. I guess they were looking for low lying spots & bridges that might freeze. Thankfully, nothing was frozen on my way in.

After the past week, 34 seems absolutely balmy.

message 1067: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Temp here is currently 28°F. We had some light snow this morning. It may continue. Just enough to need to clear the windows of the car.

message 1068: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Ice on driveway and street/sunny but predicted temp tomorrow, 7 degrees/in the fifties toward the weekend. Is this weather crazy or what?

message 1069: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Wow! Roller coaster temps.

message 1070: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Jim, "Roller coaster" is a good way to put it!

message 1071: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Agreed!

message 1072: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Today was six degrees when we fetched the morning paper but help is on the way/now the fifties by the weekend. Maybe that good weather will be coming your way Jim.

message 1073: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We were 11 Sunday morning & 42 by lunch. Yesterday it was mid 30's with rain. Today we're dry & just stuck in the mid 20's, but we're supposed to slowly warm up. We might get close to 50 this weekend, but likely just upper 40's. Still, that would be nice.

message 1074: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Our weather forcaster said it was two degrees this morning. He says don't worry it will be near sixty by Saturday. See what I mean about crazy weather here.

message 1075: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments It's -5°F here and they say it will go down to -12F later tonight. Trickle, Trickle!

message 1076: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments If we make it to the weekend it's some glorious fifties in the forcast for then and then following week. A reprieve from our very cold January weather. We have had 3 inches of snow counting Nov, Dec and now January. Ten inches by this time last year

message 1077: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Yes, Nina, we desperately need a "reprieve" from this awful winter weather!

message 1078: by Nina (last edited Jan 14, 2015 07:30PM) (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Jim, I'll hope our predicted weather pattern comes your way. I bet even the animals would welcome some fifty degree days/nights in the twenties. Sunday can you believe is to be 59 and in January. Hope it's right on schedule.

message 1079: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Today in the forties but still cold in the early morning feeding the birds time. Yeah, fifities on the way for the next week. Strange not to have snow.

message 1080: by Joy H., Group Founder (last edited Jan 15, 2015 11:30AM) (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments It's 22 degrees F here and the sun is out this afternoon. That's a bit of an improvement!
We still have snow on the ground.

message 1081: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) It was 33 & sunny when I got home. I took a ride on Chip, but he wasn't happy about it since the ground is so hard. Where it's not frozen, it's slick. We had a good time, though. Not much wind, so it wasn't too cold.

message 1082: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Current temp here at 9:12 AM is 25°F. Tonight they predict a low of Low: -10°F.

message 1083: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) It was 24 here this morning, but we might get into the 40's today. Below freezing again tonight & possibly into the 50's tomorrow. Heat wave! Love it!!!

message 1084: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Fifty seven predicted today. Yeah!

message 1085: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Enjoy those "high" temps! I'm jealous! lol

message 1086: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Can you believe 59 degrees today. We'll take it. My daughter gave my husband a weather station for Christmas and it's great/tells temp and humidity inside and out. Are you familiar with these?

message 1087: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We only got into the mid 40's, but the sun was out. It was nice. I got some chores done, took a ride with the dogs, & generally had a nice lazy day. Marg is down in Nashville with Erin.

message 1088: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Nina, yes, Eddie loves his weather station.

Glad you had a good day, Jim. But you must miss Marg!

message 1089: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Our weather station says it is sixty outside so I'm off for a walk.

message 1090: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Jim, isn't the mouse supposed to play when the cat is away? I think you are working while the "cat" is away. Hope our good weather gets your way soon.

message 1091: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Enjoy your walk, Nina!

message 1092: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) At the risk of sounding like a rude old fogy, I'm not missing Marg nor in risk of 'playing' while The Boss is away. I pretty much did the normal, although it was nice to have the TV to watch what I want. I watched a Batman/Superman/Wonder Woman cartoon movie, an episode of Gotham & another of Constantine, all stuff Marg hates. I didn't hear a single disparaging remark about my poor taste in TV - a nice change of pace. I read when I felt like it & cooked with green peppers. The freedom & quiet was quite nice.

All the dishes are done & I did some other cleaning. I just stopped in from the shop on my way out to the barn to give the horses & goats time to come in from the south field. I'll check the new cover I made for the outside spigots & fill up their water while I feed them. Marg said she should be back around 7pm.

message 1093: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Well, Jim, at least you've had a nice "rest". :)

message 1094: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Well, Jim, nice you got caught up on all your "vices" ha ha..

message 1095: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Yeah! LOL

message 1096: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Can't beat this January sixty degree good for walking weather. Hope it heads your ways..

message 1097: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments I hope so too, Nina! Thank you.

message 1098: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Yesterday was sixty four can you believe? Our normal January temp is thirty eight degrees but I will gladly take the latter..We are too dry; only three inches of snow and no rain either.

message 1099: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Nina, it's 24F degrees here and our backyard is a sheet of frozen white snow. Enjoy your "dryness". LOL

message 1100: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We were solidly in the 50's today. Unfortunately, I've done something to my back, so didn't enjoy it.
