Any good YA-Horror/Mystery/Suspense out there? I just finished Anna Dressed in Blood, and didn't like it at all. I want something scarier and with lots of shocks ;)

New request: Any good YA standalones? Not realistic-contemporary, though. I'm currently reading This is Not a Test by Courtney Summers and I like it so much. I prefer survival stuffs or paranormal or even dystopian. Standalones. Thanks ^-^

Would you include mental issues as illness? I can think of some where the girl has amnesia, or another mental problem.

Not sure what to suggest as I wasn't that big a fan of this is not a test. this is a survival story -
and i didn't like this much either so maybe you will like it!

Kirstin, I recommend:
- it's dystopian set in 2044 but people are crazed about the 80s. Their world is set in an online game.
- this is a retelling of Peter Pan. This one's slow pace, though!
- this has the same concept as the Hunger Games. High school students kill each other to survive. It's a very long book, by the way, so I hope you can manage to keep your interest going :)

@Mei: Ooooh, your recommendations look awesome! Ready Player One sounds like my type of thing. I'm a gamer myself! ^-^ And Peter Pan's one of my favorite fairytale as a child. I've heard about Battle Royale ever since I've heard about The Hunger Games, but I never really bothered reading it. I'll probably give it a try ;)
Ooh! That sounds interesting as well! I never would have learned about those books by myself. Thanks Sarah ;)
Kirstin, I saw in your profile that you were a gamer but you were probably not into 80s so I was a bit hesitant. Anyway, you might like it because I really enjoyed it even though I'm not into 80s :) The world delivery was impressive!
Naah, I love the 80s! I'm not from that era but I've heard good things about it. In the radios or TVs or whatnot. They say it's the Golden Era or something. Besides, I love retros ;)

These don't really have a guy that loves a girl but the girl is sick. Very realistic.

For some reason, Nabanita I can't get this to post correctly, but these are my two suggestions for 'funny and romantic.'
Hi, I will be attending a Christmas party and I need a unisex gift. I figured a book would be good to give, but I don't know if they'll like it. Since most of us in my group are boys, it's highly likely I get a guy, so its preferrable if what I'll give is a standalone and a book that for a first time reader, will definitely capture his attention. Can anyone recommend any?

Oh, that's the problem and surprise. We don't know who we will be exchanging gifts with, but all of us are teenagers. 19 years old is the oldest age we've got. We are only 5 girls so it's most likely that I'll get a guy.
this 1st one's a remarkably rich and fun and nerdy and deep novel about superheroes.
this 2nd one's just funny. so, so good.
and this last one completely blew me away. the movie is no comparison. the book is brilliant.
