Jodi (readinbooks) | 327 comments Hi Everyone,

I am writing this request for my nephew. He is in grade 10 and he just finished and LOVED the Maze Runner series. He is looking for his next reads. I know he read The Hunger Games and assume he read Insurgent/Divergent because I know my sister has them. What is out there that is similar to The Maze Runner books? He is really into reading right now and we want to keep that going. I would say he probably isn't into vampires, other creatures or the paranormal.

Thanks so much.
Jodi

Dana (danasbooks) | 71 comments I've just finished city of bones and I really don't know what to read next. Should I stick with the series and read the next book or should I read Legend. What would YOU do. I am literally torn between these two books cause they are really good.

message 257: by Tessa (last edited Oct 14, 2013 12:52PM) (new)

Tessa (tessa_ioana) | 1861 comments @Jodi
Since he's a boy I think he would prefer to read some books where the main character is also male. While I did enjoy a lot both The Hunger games and Divergent I still think he would enjoy more one of the following series:
Gone series: https://www.goodreads.com/series/4528...
Chaos Walking: https://www.goodreads.com/series/4493...
Unwind Dystology: https://www.goodreads.com/series/4333...
Lumatere Chronicles: https://www.goodreads.com/series/5711...
Benny Imura: https://www.goodreads.com/series/5113...
Here you have pretty much everything from kids with superpowers to SF to Dystopia to Fantasy and Zombies.
Let him read from the selection and ask him to choose. They are all good so I don't think he can choose something less enjoyable than the other. :)

@Dana: Legend. The Mortal Instruments series gets more annoying with each new book while the sequel for Legend is going to be amazing [I promise you]. You can't even compare the two books. The world building in Legend is amazing while in TMI you just get one paranormal creature after the other... And the romance in Legend is more appealing. No more annoying love triangles.

Tessa (tessa_ioana) | 1861 comments Hope it helps and that he'll find his next favorite series among them :) . It is so rare for kids to read nowadays. We must support them as much as possible XD.

Maybe On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta or Looking for Alaska by John Green . i don't remember thinking the vocabulary was extremely elevated, but i know they are very literary books. they both won the Printz award.

Greta (goodreadsgreta) | 4545 comments Megan wrote: "just got a Kindle! Does anyone have any suggestions on good Kindle reads?"

first search on amazon for free or really cheap ebooks. There are lots of them and some i've read have been pretty good.

also..check if your library lets you borrow ebooks. mine does :)

message 271: by Jodi (last edited Oct 25, 2013 06:59PM) (new)

Jodi (readinbooks) | 327 comments Greta, you can't put e-books from the library books on a kindle can you?

message 272: by Jalyn (new)

Jalyn (jalynnie) | 3827 comments Jodi wrote: "Greta, you can't put e-books from the library books on a kindle can you?"

You can borrow ebooks from your library (if your library has an ebook lending program) and download them to your kindle, but they only stay on your kindle for a set amount of time and then the file isn't available anymore after that.

message 273: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (readinbooks) | 327 comments Thanks Jalyn. I didn't think Kindle supported library books. I am going to look into it this weekend. That will save me a lot of money!

message 274: by Jalyn (new)

Jalyn (jalynnie) | 3827 comments You're welcome! It does save a lot of money (and time too since you can browse books at your leisure instead of going to the library). :)

Mei (meijey) | 3810 comments Hi Daphney! Do you mean a second chance meeting in terms of the romance aspect? Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson is more on second chances to the protagonist's family but there's still romance in it. It's a long one, though, but I think you'll enjoy it :)
