hi i am shelly and am 31 from minnesota and have my second guide dog. i ranked third in the nation for braille reading and i love mystery and suspense books. i love ceramics reading long walks with my eight year old guide movies and pro wrestling and meeting new people.
Hi GuysThis is my maiden voyage into a Goodreads group.
My wife of 37 years and I live in the frozen land of 10,000 lakes. All 5 of our kids are grown, 3 in college. It's painful.
We're a goofy family, maybe weird, but we enjoy life. Our grown kids friends still like us so that must count for something. We dream and reminisce about climbing aboard a motorhome and hitting the road without a plan, finding treasure troves of sea glass along the New England coast. Pop music, bike riding, Iowa volleyball and Vikings football are our current passions. My wife is a master gardener and painter of heart shaped rocks we find in Carlsbad.
Our big challenge at this stage in life is placing our parents in care facilities. When's the right time? Help!
I'm a full-time anesthesiologist who would love to leave the stress of work behind, but like I said, 3 in college. We're down sizing our home in anticipation of that time though. Baby-steps.
Oh yeah, in my spare time I write military thrillers. You can see more photos and links to my social media pages on my website www.RichardBlomberg.com
Thanks and any advice you have, I'm all ears.
Hello, I am from Batavia, Work in my library's tech and acquisition department. Have seven children, two at home and eleven grandchildren. Seems I have many friends in this group and looking forward to making more. Love mysteries and thrillers, so look forward to sharing and discussing.
Hello Diane, welcome to the group. Wow, such a big family. That is great. I was only fortunate to have one, a son and 3 granddaughters.
Hi - Susan here from Wisconsin. I'm a bit new to the thriller genre. I usually read mostly history, historical fiction, biographies and paranormal/fantasy.
Galen wrote: "I live between the Sierra Nevada’s and Paris. Retirement is freedom. When I'm not writing, I'm generally bistro hopping or backpacking in the mountains. I also admit to being a closet banjo picker...."That must be beautiful Galen! Backpacking out there must give you all kinds of ideas for writing. I get my best ideas when we vacation, trail ride, or just go for a walk in the park. There is always something that makes your mind click into fiction and thus the writing begins :)
Welcome to all of the new members. I'm Theresa and although I don't get here as often as I'd like, I enjoy my time here when I can. You will all enjoy this group and I think you'll love book pals. Give it a try when you can.
Sean wrote: "Hi,Thanks for joining my group, please do introduce yourself. As moderator I will start. I live in Jersey in the Channel Islands, I have lived here for thirty seven years, married for thirty five..."
Sean this is the first time I noticed the websites. Your wife's jewelry is amazing. She does fabulous work!
Thanks! I am a bit intimidated about the number of books many of the thriller authors have written. I feel if I read one, I have to read the entire series or I might miss something important :-)
No need to feel intimidated. Crime fiction has always been a fave of mine, but whatever genre I read, if it's a series, I have to start at the beginning. It's an infliction I have!!! ;-) Relax, there are plenty of good standalones out there too. Ask us anything at anytime, we're here to help. It's a very friendly group!
Susan wrote: "Thanks! I am a bit intimidated about the number of books many of the thriller authors have written. I feel if I read one, I have to read the entire series or I might miss something important :-)"James Clavell's Shogun is a fave of mine too. welcome to the group, Susan.
Welcome, Susan and Chloe Jane!Susan, a lot of us here do read series in order. Just seems logical, right? :-)
Chloe Jane, check out S. J. Bolton's Lacey Flint series, Harry Bingham's Fiona Griffiths series, or Linwood Barclay's stand alone novels. All excellent.
Theresa, thanks U help my wife picks the colours, and help do the markets with my wife.

Hi everyone, I'm Elaine from the UK and like you all I love a good thriller. I've just finished Silent Scream and I have to say it was brilliant.

Welcome Elaine and Denyse. We're all addicted. Some to reading, some to writing and the really sad cases, to both!
Don't forget to go to the Authors section and leave a question for Mel Sherratt.(Q & A )

Hi and thanks for the invite Sean.My name is Pat and I live in Australia in the Snowy Mountains region with my husband. It is quite remote but we like it here and there is a good little community. We're not farming as such but have an extensive orchard and vegetable garden that keep us active. We also have chickens and a couple of ducks - with four of the cutest babies!
I also enjoy cooking and making jewellery (I will check out your wife's Sean).
As there is nowhere to "go out" around here unless we are visiting neighbours we both enjoy reading and my main/favourite fare is, strangely, a good thriller. I also read mystery, crime, legal thrillers and a random mixture of other stuff. A current interest is global food security and I have my eye on a book on this topic. I don't read romance and don't like books with weak, "too stupid to live" female lead characters though.
I have many favourite authors - Lee Child, Time Weaver, Chris Mooney, Linwood Barclay to name just a few. I'm always on the lookout for new authors though so open to recommendations.

Hi Pat, I'm Patricia but everyone calls me Pat around the house. Your little farm sounds great. I live in Southern California in a home with homes on both sides maybe 10 feet away. Like you, I love good thrillers, mysteries, and some gothic ghost stories without the bodice ripping.
Goodreads has been a great source of new authors and good books. The book clubs have offered an opportunity to meet some really interesting people. I can recommend the group that is called "You Pick It For Me". The chat room is worth the participation in itself. The people are fun.

Pat and Patricia, welcome. Lots of recs here in addition to several 'house authors' to sample.
Pat, which is the food security book you are looking at?
