...or any other blunt object that might be on hand. He's an alpha male in Victorian times -- of course he's going to do something/say something worthy of blunt force trauma. ;-)

Pretty When She Dies (Pretty When She Dies, #1) by Rhiannon Frater - 4 stars

Poor Amaliya. Black sheep of a horribly trailer trash family (though she seemed the sanest member), goes on a date with her handsome professor and ends up dead undead. Amaliya's professor was The Summoner, an evil vampire/necromancer who enjoyed toying with his "creations." The ever resourceful Amaliya realizes what has happened to her and decides to look for others of her kind for guidance. Enter Cian, the master vampire of Austin.
Lovely story, well done, with an intriguing supporting cast of characters. This was my first Frater book, but it won't be my last.

Christina (AKA Babbling) (babblingbookreviews) | 1242 comments Not as diligent as I could be...I have a feeling the Chicagoland Vampire series isn't one I'll be following.

Weekend's coming...so I'll get more reading done then. :D

message 215: by Midu (new)

Midu Hadi | 1732 comments everywhere I looked, there were vampire books but now that a shelf was called, there aren't any! lol

message 216: by AH (new)

AH | 2271 comments Check and see if someone shelved Fifty Shades of Grey under vampire. That was our ongoing joke last round - every shelf called had Fifty Shades on it. It could have been a drinking game.

message 217: by Midu (new)

Midu Hadi | 1732 comments wow! it isn't surprising, given how popular that book is! lol

message 218: by Christina (AKA Babbling) (last edited Oct 12, 2012 04:00PM) (new)

Christina (AKA Babbling) (babblingbookreviews) | 1242 comments Since the series was inspired by Twilight, I wouldn't be surprised if it is. ;-)

message 219: by Midu (new)

Midu Hadi | 1732 comments ugghhh i still have NO idea why I read all of the Twilight books!

message 220: by AH (new)

AH | 2271 comments They served a need at the time, I am sure.

message 221: by Midu (new)

Midu Hadi | 1732 comments the first one was because i had to know what its popularity was all about. the rest because i hate starting a series and then not finishing.

Midu Hadi | 1732 comments Stories All-New Tales by Neil Gaiman

Book: Stories: All-New Tales by Neil Gaiman
Shelf: Vampires
Rating: ★★★
Date Read: 13-10-12
Review:
A collection of some very good stories. It had something for every reader. Started off with a good one called Blood. The Therapist was one of those that I really liked while Catch and Release was just plain creepy. There was humor and horror and love and an abundance of craziness and quirkiness.

Amelia (ald1224) | 33 comments Nightwalker (Stormwalker, #4) by Allyson James
Shelf: Vampires
Rating: 4 STARS
Date Finished: October 13, 2012
Review:

Absolutely loved it! This is such a great series, it has everything in it. Romance, hot guys, interesting characters, its funny, it's sad, it's suspenseful, and you keep wondering what the hell is gonna happen next to Janet. Janet and her gang: Mick her dragon fiance, Magic Mirror, grandmother, her sister Gabrielle, Coyote the god, Bear the goddess, vampires, changers, Sheriff Nash, mages and more dragons. This book revolves around an artifact that holds immense magical power, that has to be found and destroyed before it falls into the wrong hands. Of course there's murder and kidnapping and fires and lots of storm magic for Janet. I'm looking forward to the next installment, I would highly recommend this series.

Amelia (ald1224) | 33 comments Hi everyone!

Christina (AKA Babbling) (babblingbookreviews) | 1242 comments Unfortunately, I'm giving up on Some Girls Bite. I'm wasting valuable reading time trying to read a book that I'm just not clicking with. It's not helping the team and it feels like a chore.

I've made some changes...

I6 : Kick-ass-heroine - Changeless
G19 : Vampires - Phantom Shadows

Right now, I'm going to grab Ember's Kiss (favorite author) and snuggle up with my favorite dragons. :D

message 227: by AH (new)

AH | 2271 comments Steph announced the next shelf. Series Catch up. So book 2 in a series or later, your choice. If we get a vampire stamp and this one, we'll have 3 in a row.

Carlyn | 466 comments Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble (Jolie Wilkins, #1) by H.P. Mallory
Shelf: Vampires
Rating:★★
Finished: 14/10/12

This book is okay I suppose. Wwhen we first meet Jolie she is a tarot card reader who can see aura's but a few chapters in she is a very powerful witch who has went from being ordinary and not having much of a love life to being wanted by every sexy supernatural guy she meets.
This book just went from one extreme to the other too much for me. I don't know if I will read the next in the series to be honest.

Christina (AKA Babbling) (babblingbookreviews) | 1242 comments Ember's Kiss (Dragonfire, #8) by Deborah Cooke
N14 : Favorite Author - Ember's Kiss by Deborah Cooke - ★★★★★ - 14 Oct 12
Brandon Merrick is the youngest Pyr featured in this series, he's not even thirty years old. In fact, both his parents are still alive. Even so, he's estranged from them. His father didn't reveal his true nature to his mate, and when she accidentally found out while Brandon was still very young, they had a huge argument and Brandt left them. Brandt only came back into his son's life long enough teach him basic dragon skills. By that point, Brandon was also estranged from his mother as well.

Given his history, it's no wonder that Brandon doesn't want anything to do with his dragon -- it's only brought heartache. He can't control his dragon and he's afraid it's evil. What he doesn't know is that his so-called good friend Chen is manipulating him. Brandon thinks the frail old man is helping him keep the dragon locked up, suppressing it. What's really happening is that Chen is gaining control of Brandon's dragon.

There is one aspect of being a dragon shifter that Brandon readily accepts and that is the firestorm. His faith in it is very much like Rafferty's. He's not adverse to the idea of committing himself to one woman, he just didn't think he'd get a firestorm so soon. It doesn't hurt that the pretty brunette he sees in a restaurant -- the same woman his friend was trying to hit on -- is his destined mate. From the first moment he saw her, even before the eclipse that heralded the firestorm, Brandon knew she was special. He just didn't know how special she was.

Dr. Elizabeth "Liz" Barrett is special. She has a power she thought she lost fourteen years earlier; a power that seems to be resurfacing since her arrival in Hawaii. Like Brandon, she doesn't want to embrace her heritage. It's brought her nothing but grief. However, that power can help save Brandon from Chen.

I really love this series. And I loved this book. Definitely different than the others. Brandon, being so young compared to the other had a youthfulness about him that the others didn't -- the others have been shaped by their experiences, their losses. He's actions and attitudes felt more like those of his actual age -- he was a twenty-something guy, not just one that looked it.

Liz was great too. She's one mate that could defend herself against a Slayer until reinforcements arrive. It would be interesting to see more of her type because of the connections to dragons.

We only got a glimpse of Thorolf -- still in Thailand and in serious need of rescuing, though he doesn't even realize it. Hopefully, we'll get his story sometime next year.

Rogue Rider (Lords of Deliverance, #4) by Larissa Ione - 4 stars

Imagine trudging through the snow and finding a naked man lying in your path. A gorgeous hunk of a male specimen, clad in only his birthday suit. Would you take him home to warm him up? Well, Jillian did.
Jillian takes the mystery man home with her and is surprised when he awakens and can't remember a thing about himself, only his name.

I devoured this book. Could not put it down. So much happens and boy, did I ever change my opinion of Reseph. Lots of action, lots of hot and steamy sex, and a great cast of characters.

Date Finished: 10/16/12

This is an OMG, WTF, awesome read! I loved the entire story. Eva and Gideon's saga continues with all the same players plus a few new. Here's the low down: a beautiful romantic trip to the beach, Eva's dad comes to visit, Gideon starts acting like a total ass, Cary gets horribly beaten with a baseball bat, Eva is falling apart, the wicked step brother returns, Corinne is still causing problems, Brett the hot rock star, who happens to be an ex-boyfriend of Eva's makes an unexpected appearance, there's murder and mystery and heart wrenching disaster. The only thing left to say is THANK YOU Sylvia Day!!

Christina (AKA Babbling) (babblingbookreviews) | 1242 comments Just checking in to let you ladies know that I'm more than/just over half-way with my vampire book. I'm thinking I'll have it finished by Friday.

I'll probably read my series catch up book after because (1) J.D Robb is usually a quick read for me, so I should be able to knock it out over the weekend and (2) it is in a better position for us than KAH. Hopefully, by Monday I have only KAH, plus the new shelf, to worry about.
