R6: Team #1 ~ First and the Furious

I'm in it! I'm in it! I'm in it!

What an honour Midu! Congrats I will have to read it :)

I've got about 100+ pages to read for KAH book so we can FINALLY get our stamp.
I'm re-typing my series catch up review. I started it yesterday at work and then forgot to email it to myself.
I've looked at the favorite series shelf but I'm not sure what I'll pick -- lots to choose from. Two books that I want to read aren't on the list (closest listing was "favorites").

The stupid shelves are taking about a minute to load because of the UGB.
Almost finished my vampire book.

The stupid shelves are taking about a minute to load..."
The books I want to read will be released on Tuesday. I wonder... Black Lament might be on the demon shelf....I could switch it out with Summoning the Night, which I know is on favorite series, having seeing it while browsing.
The other book is The Shattered Dark.
I haven't been having too much trouble with page loading. But I don't like the button either. It really doesn't go with the site's design, you know? A big green button on an otherwise understated web page.

G16 : Series Catch-Up - The Red Heart of Jade - ★★★★ - 21 Oct 12
Dean Campbell works for Dirk & Steele, a detective agency that employs people with special gifts -- psychics, shape-shifters. Dean can track people's energy signatures and he's in Taiwan to hunt down a killer who's murdering people by setting them on fire. So far, the authorities are at a loss with no leads. Dean hasn't had any luck either, since whoever is doing the killing is also able to hide his energy signature. During his investigation, he learns that the woman he loved, and thought long-dead, was alive and in Taipei.
Dr. Mirabelle Lee is an archeologist. She teaches at Stanford but she's in Taipei because her friend and mentor has uncovered a major archeological find. Miri's life gets upended when a mysterious man attempts to kidnap her and Dean, who she thought died when they were both sixteen, shows up at her door.
Reunited and pursued by more than one party, the pair tries to make sense of how and why they fit into the mystery surrounding the jade stone found in one of the mummies unearthed by Miri's friend.
I really liked the book. It was a bit like an Indiana Jones adventure, especially after they found out there was another piece of jade and they had to find it. I did figure out part of how Dean and Miri fit into the puzzle early on -- it made sense to me and it also made parts seem less confusing (I'm being vague to avoid spoilers).
Miri was a great heroine. She was strong as well as smart and put up quiet a fight during the kidnapping attempt. She also funny and had a great sense of humor. She put up with the weirdness calmly -- it helped that she already knew of Dean's skill, so it wasn't like she hadn't encountered something supernatural before.
As for Dean, I loved him. He wasn't afraid to put his heart out there, to show emotions, to say he was sorry and really mean it. He was also funny.
A character that turned out to be something of a surprise was Miri's would-be kidnapper. He shows up at the end of the book and gives Miri a piece of unnecessary advice, and it made me wonder exactly what did the love of his life say or do to warrant his words to Miri.
Looking forward to the next book.

Review: Lucien despises himself for being a sort of reaper. Anya comes into the bar where Lucien and his friends are having a good time and pulls Lucien to the dance floor. They all think it strange that Anya targets Lucien. Only then do they find out that she is being hunted by Cronus the god king. And as Lucien is now given the job of being her executioner. But what they don't know is that inside of Anya there is source of power the likes of which in the wrong hands could mean disaster. Now finding the magical objects and protecting Anya is the job. With the objects they need they could destroy Pandora's Box and save their demons. Because without them both Demon and man will parish. But will finding the objects cost nothing? Or will it cost Lucien and his friends lives? Will Anya's and Lucien's love last? Will Anya give up the power inside her to save the man she loves and his friends?

I6 : Kick-ass-heroine - Changeless - ★★★★ - 28 Oct 12
Something turning supernaturals human and isn't Alexia. Is it a weapon? A disease? Alexia is determined to find out. In the meantime, Lord Maccon rushes off to Scotland to deal with his old pack.
I really can't talk about the plot because of spoilers. I knew how Lord Maccon would react to the news -- having read the back blurbs for the later book. On one hand, his reaction was consistent with his character. He's someone who was betrayed before by the very people who should have been loyal to him. I'm a bit disappointed that Alexia didn't get into his face more -- maybe point out that his sense of smell could have cleared up the issue. I expected her to fight back more.
Other than that, I enjoyed the book. I will be reading the next one.

True...I was surprised. I thought she would get angry and yell back.

So for FAVORITE SERIES, I'll be reading

I feel like I'm almost caught up. :D Finishing Changeless felt like a big burden was lifted.

I know, right? I was ready to read The Prince and it isn't on the fricking shelves.
For slow loading lists, choose your book, then go to the shelves for that book and use Control F to find "favorite series" - it's a lot faster.

Poor Annabelle has just witnessed her parents murder by demons. She's accused of their murder and committed to an institution for the criminally insane because no one believes her story that demons killed her parents. Demons continue to track her while in the institution and she is brutalized on a regular basis from her so-called psychologist, who's to be caring for her well being. During one of the demon attacks she is rescued by Zacharel, an angel. During their time together, they create a loving bond and continue to battle the demons chasing her. In the end, love wins and evil dies. I enjoyed the story but I was always waiting and wanting more, that never seemed to occur unfortunately.

I'm always happy to go back to The Hollows and visit with Rachel, Ivy, Jenks, and the gang. It kind of feels like a second home for me. The Hollows was one of the first UF series that I read and I am so happy that Kim Harrison keeps coming up with more stories about these characters.
In this installment of The Hollows, Rachel along with Ivy and Jenks are on a run after HAPA - Humans Against Paranormals. These guys are a terrifying lot - they are kidnapping people with Rosewood syndrome and trying to turn them into demons. Freak show crazy.
Of course, the series is wonderful because of all of the eccentric characters that surround Rachel - from potty mouthed Jenks, to sleek and scary Ivy, and to the enigmatic Trent. Even Al comes to visit from the Ever After.
Recommended for Kim Harrison fans and UF fans alike.

:D The Dirk and Steele series is, in some ways, like the Psy-Changeling series -- different psy powers, some shape-shifters. So far, the books have been set in different places, so you get some world travel thrown in, too. :)

I don't know why I still read this series to be honest as it is the same thing over and over again and the plot lines don't change much if there is one at all.
Stygian is a wolf breed who must protect Liza and find out the secrets she hides but he also must discover who she really is.
I would love to see this series finish with the current problems in th plots and maybe go in a new direction. I don't think I will bother reading the next one.

This is a spin off of the Nicki Styx series which I haven't read so I was reading this as a stand alone but I still quite enjoyed it although I think things would have made more sense if I had read the other series first.
Sammy is the devil but he has been given the task of being a guardian angel to a single mother with a dying son called Faith but being the devil he doesn't exactly take the easiest route for her.
I liked Sammy but I wasn't too keen on the rock star Finn since he was a bit selfish for most of the book.

wow. Super woman!
Any honeymoon plans?

Take a human sexuality professor and partner her up with a rock star and put them both in a cramped rock band touring bus. The results are sex, sex, and more sex. Rinse and repeat. All sorts of creative sex.
The funny thing is that this past week I read another erotic romance and that author made fun of all of the stereotypical things in that particular genre of writing. As I read this book, I thought of that authors comments and practically giggled as I saw all of the stereotypical things come up:
*Well endowed man - check
*Man of incredible stamina - check
*No worries about UTIs - check
etc., etc.
So I tried this series. It was hard to finish it. The heroine kind of annoyed me. I guess it's not my cup of tea. Your results may vary - this is a popular series.
